NCarmean18ParticipantDid anyone else notice tonight how particularly stocky Val looked tonight? He looked like he beefed up big time, which is good for somebody with the post game that he has. He will definitely be a big part of the Toronto Raptor’s success in 2013-2014, and I was curious as to know what you guys thought of him coming into his sophomore season in the NBA?

T-Dot-BallerParticipantYou can tell Val definitely hit the gym….looked much bigger out there. Honestly Big Val does not belong in the summer league. He’s head and shoulders above the competition and will only hurt his game by playing with a bunch of scrubs. Guard play from Toronto was horrendous and Big V many times had established position down low but the guards didnt get him the ball. I think Toronto should focus on T-ross in this summer league, who btw just looked lost out there

DolanCareParticipantHe was dominant tonight. No one on the Heat could match him. That being said he’s still developing. I predict a 12 pt 7 reb season from him for the upcoming year.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantHonestly, he might even average 10 boards a game. He managed 6 while playing like 23 minutes. Give him 30 and he’d easily give you 8-10, especially now that he’s bulked up more.

DolanCareParticipantYou’re probably right about the boards. He’s not an elite rebounder, but he plays close to the rim and, like you said, stronger.

RafterParticipantYeah, he looked physically imposing with this stronger body, a little too much for summer league according to the officials though. He hasn’t even peaked physically yet, he’s still the age of most rookies but it’s a good sign that he knows how to use his body to dominate at this level. Averaging 8-10 rpg this upcoming NBA season looks like a pretty safe bet based on that showing alone. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bench him for the rest of the summer league after their second game against the Spurs since there isn’t much gain for him to stick around.

kazamParticipantJonas’ problem all year was foul trouble and getting winded. He played so hard for stretches that he was gassed by the time he got a sub. He often found himself a step late on help or battling in a situation where it wasnt worth battling for and picked up cheap fouls.
If he can limit those two issues he can be fantastic for the Raps. I didn’t see the SL game but if he has really bulked up that will certainly help both offensively and defensively. The Raps need to give him his touches this year. Last year when he got a chance to get it going offensively he was great and showed glimpses with different pivots, fakes and finishes. Problem was inefficient chuckers Rudy and Demar. Plus Lowry’s questionable decision making

kingofbumsParticipantderozan definitely was not a chucker last year and was pretty efficient. the chuckers were gay and anderson, yet ironically if you watched the games the only player that would give the ball to big v was gay

TallmanNYCParticipantWell playing with Zbo and Gasol for years should have at least taught Gay how to feed the post.

kazamParticipantDerozan taking deep contested twos or ever shooting a three is not helping the team. The major issue is he isnt a good finisher despite his great athleticism. I am not a fan of Derozan and perhaps chucker was the wrong word but he is not a guy that is going to work well with Jonas’ development.

kazamParticipantaccording to hoopdata.com Derozan’s true shooting % was below league average. though his per and efficiency ratings were both slightly above. Either way I still dont think he’s a compliment to growing with Jonas

TallmanNYCParticipantBut only a little below league average in TS%. And better than Gay and Anderson’s! So he has that going for him.

kingofbumsParticipantlike a month ago casey stated that Big V gained 10-15 lbs of muscle and so did gay.

ReekoParticipantGay was the player who most tried feeding JV in the post, but his entry passes often got picked off for turnovers.. I expect big things from JV this season, he might be an all star this year, but I’m almost certain that by next season he will be an All-Star and possibly an MVP candidate. Lofty expectations I know, but I just see greatness in this young man, from his game to his attitude.

TallmanNYCParticipantWell at least Gay tried. Good for him. Gay also cranked up a good number of shots. So I guess he was getting his enough and he tried to share the love.
Your expectations are very high. And since he is going to be a center in the East and there four young centers (Noah, Hibbert, Lopez and Drummond) who I would have way ahead of him, Bynum who is young and very good when health, plus Anthony Davis who might be a Center and I would think it unlikely he will be an All Star. MVP candidate would be just a shocking development.

B FreeParticipantThats a bold statement. But I know what you mean, he looks the part is a great athlete and his stats per 36 minutes as a rookie last year come out to 13.5 pts and 9.1rebs 2 blks. When you give him starter minuets add in his better physique and another year of being in the NBA and there is no reason he shouldn’t be putting up All Star quality numbers, of course he still needs the votes, but besides Hibbert there aren’t many other big men I would rather have in the East.

draftmangtParticipantStill wish the Cavs would have not traded Hickson and drafted Valanciunas.
