    Sources: Jonny Flynn drawing interest

    By Chris Broussard

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers have contacted the Houston Rockets about acquiring Jonny Flynn, according to league sources.

    Flynn

No deal is imminent with either team, but both clubs are in desperate need of a point guard and have Flynn on their radar.

The Knicks have shown the most interest, sources say, and discussed a possible deal involving Renaldo Balkman and Mike Bibby. The Rockets were not interested.

Bibby, who was signed as a free agent before the season, can’t be traded before March 1.

In addition to inquiring about Flynn, the Lakers have also shown interest in free agentGilbert Arenas and Cleveland’s Ramon Sessions.

Flynn, a 2009 lottery pick out of Syracuse, is the third-string point guard in Houston, where he backs up Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic.

Flynn averaged 13.5 points and 4.4 assists as a rookie in Minnesota but has struggled since injuring his hip in his second season.

I would love for my Rockets to get Devin Ebanks in this deal.  We really don’t need another other of the Lakers’ players or bad contracts.

Not surprising that the Rockets aren’t interested in Bibby and Balkman, I can’t think of a team that would be interested in that duo at all.  One of the teams are going to have to shovel out a 1st round pick to get Sessions because he is clearly the best PG on the market and could start right away for these teams.

I think Flynn would be a great addition to the Knicks. Let’s just hope he pans out better than the last NYC point guard who came home to play at MSG (Stephon Marbury).

Honestly I have not seen much of Johnny Flynn.  Can someone describe his game to me?

A good comparison of Jonny Flynn is Kemba Walker.  Undersized point guard that can slash and is a good mid-range shooter.  Shoot-first guard and isn’t a great 3pt shooter.  Explosive and can create a shot for himself.  Isn’t very efficient and takes bad shots at times, turnover prone and out of control at times as well.

As I said, he’s basically Kemba Walker, except I believe Kemba has more potential than Flynn.

Man, if we could get Flynn. I watched all his college games when he was here. I never was high on him as a top 10 pick, but he could be a very solid point guard. I think his confidence was slightly shot when he got hurt in Minny, and he never got a chance to prove he was all the way back. I think if LA or NY gets him, they’re getting a steal.

I would LOVE for the Knicks to get him, we don’t got the pieces though. Although, it is interesting to see in the future months if Morey tries to package guys to get better players. Other then the Lowry deal, I don’t know any really great deal he’s made.

Flynn would be great on the both the Lakers and Knicks. He is a career backup, but he would be better than anybody the Lakers or Knicks currently run at the point.

the lakers and knicks both seem to be in pretty bad spots when it comes down the pg position.  i think houston should shoot to either pry landry fields or devin ebanks to make it worthwhile.  those are the only players on both teams with reasonable value, given their contracts.

i still think flynn can be a servicable player.  and he’s still young.

Flynn was in the absolute worst system for his playstyle in Minnesota. He was running the triangle while splitting time with Sessions/Ridnour at different times. He’s more than a capable player that I can honestly see him scoring anywhere from 15-20 ppg if he plays for the Knicks, and distributing to Melo and STAT wouldn’t hurt either. He’s always been the run and gun kinda player and utilized the pick and roll game well, but he’s never been able to showcase that at all so far in his career. I’m a huge fan of his and I hope he gets traded to the Knicks so he can finally open up his game. And especially with D’antoni as the coach… I think he has the potential to become a key player for that team if his hip is healthy enough.

How was Flynn in the wrong offense in Minnesota? They ran elements of the triangle but also ran plenty of pick and roll, which Flynn could not do effectively due to his inability to process defenses and find open people.

Flynn was amazing in college, was ok as a rookie for a 15 win team and we might just have to face the idea that maybe Flynn is not that good of a basketball player.

Biggy – I actually agree, but if the price is low enough, given what the Knicks and Lakers run out at the point, and given Flynn’s pedigree, it’s worth a flier to see if he can reach his potential.  D’Antoni, I’d bet, could get something worthwhile out of him.

I’m just saying, since the Lakers are looking to acquire Jonny Flynn, we better be getting Devin Ebanks.

Devin Ebanks for Johnny Flynn???? Flynn not worth that price and the Rockets have more than enough forwards right now.

Lakers don’t need Flynn but apparently they need ANY veteran PG available

The Knicks…makes sense tho if they can get rid of Bibby and Toney Douglas, move Shumpert offball and let JLin and Flynn run the offense and attack the basket. Make BDavis be a mentor/role player
