I just wanted to ask on your opinion on these two. I know that ever since he made his presence known to the public eye, John Wall has been endlessly compared to Derrick Rose. Rose is a terrific player. However, I’ve never been a big fan of his. I just acknowledge the fact that he’s really good. On the other hand, I’ve been a fan of John Wall the moment I became aware of his existence. I believe that at Wall’s age right now, Rose wasn’t as good. Here are their rookie stats:

    Rose: 16.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 6.3 apg, 0.8 spg, 0.2 bpg

    Wall: 16.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 8.3 apg, 1.8 spg, 0.5 bpg

Rose’s only advantage here is his scoring. And it’s hardly much. Rose has never even reached 8 apg during his 3 years in the NBA. Rose also had better teammates as his Bulls, who only had a 1.7% chance at the top pick, were predicted to pick 9th. Though I know that the key to Rose’s career so far has been his improvement (shooting, decision making, passing, defense), if John Wall were to improve at the rate Rose has, I do believe that he will be a better player than Rose. What do you think? (Im not saying he’s gonna win the MVP next year or the year after, OK??)

I looked at thes stats not too long ago and I even saw an article on how Wall stacks up to CP3 and Rose in their rookie seasons. This arguement will never end and it’s honestly a choice of perfernce now for what players like.  I like watching both players but I cannot compare these guys anymore just on stats. Each of them has flaws. Rose was always the better scorer. He is the best scoring PG in the league. But Wall is the better defender… so you ask yourself this, what type of PG do you want? An all around complete talent or a guy who can scorer at will. Wall needs to improve finishing around the rim. He shot about 40% and missed a lot of lay-ups, similar to Westbrook. Rose finds ways to hit those lay-ups. But I wouldn’t say Wall is so far off for being in that discussion because Wall hit 34 threes this season. Rose hit 32 in his first 2 seasons combined. Percentage wise, they were both bad but I think Wall’s jumper is not as broke as Rose’s jumper.

The real thing that I want from Wall so I can label him as the best PG is an aggressiveness. He always seems to be relaxed. I know he wants to win but he needs to show it and let his teammates know that too.  Rose has a killer instinct already. He didn’t always have it but you saw it on display this season. He knows he can get to the rim at will, which makes him unstoppable on offense. What I want to see from Wall is a little bit of swagger and have that killer instinct on offensive. He’ll get his assists no matter way. But I’d rather see him draw a foul than rely on Blatche or Young to score.

It’s going to be hard to compare Rose and Wall but you just have to see what each player accomplishes at each year. The potential is there for greatness, it’s just a matter of how much Wall wants it IMO

There’s much more to it than raw statistics though. I went on Basketball-Reference to compare both of there rookie seasons, and Rose was much more efficient.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=1&p1=walljo01&y1=2011&p2=rosede01&y2=2009

Rose’s TS%, eFG%, and offensive win shares were all much better than Wall’s.

Yeah I saw those stats too and I do admit that Rose was more efficient. However, he did/does have better teammates around him and that makes evreything easier. Rose is great (Youngest MVP ever) but I still do think that Wall CAN be better than him in the near future. All depends on his development. However, if the Wiz don’t start winning, it would be harder to argue my case.
