Can someone PLEASE explain why he is more underrated than J.J. Reddick, coming out as a Sr. Prospect?

I really feel as if he does not get the same RESPECT J.J. got, for being the BEST shooter in the nation. IMO Jenkins’ ceiling is way higher to be a better pro player.

two things tyga, and this is just my opinion

    1) JJ Redick was the ultimate competitor, you can argue his Duke team was less talented overall then this year’s vandy squad too and he still led his team to a 32-4 record

    2) JJ not only was the best shooter in the nation, but he was in a world-class competition with Adam Morrison for the scoring title. John Jenkins averaged about 20 ppg this year while Redick ended up finishing at 26.8 for the year.

I havent watched much of Jenkins, but I knew Redick was overated as hell.  Dont get me wrong, he was a killer at Duke and the way he shot the ball and the range that he showed made it look like he would be a lethal pro…..kind of like a big Steve Kerr.  Redick’s inability to play PG and his ability to defend were the biggest marks against him…but what people dont realize is, in the league, if an offense is not built around you, it makes it harder to score if you dont have a) one on one ability b) tremendous athleticism to navigate through screens (ala Ray Allen/Rip Hamilton)  neither of which J.J. has.   So he kind of struggled for a while with his catch and shoot.

Redick was not a lottery pick…..but the Magic for some reason thought he was.   They just thought he would be this scoring machine.  Another thing is, aside from the fact he cant play point, his decision making and IQ when it comes passing is terrible.  This is because he primarily could only do one thing.

Jenkins issue is also compounded by the fact that he will be competing in a much more talented draft than Redick.  They may be younger but the upside for most of these players are greater.  Where Jenkins is projected is where Redick should have been.   Redick in this years draft would logically be a 2nd rounder.

I really like Jenkins and think he is underrated as a NBA prospect. He can flat out shoot but he can also get into the lane and draw fouls. He is decent in finishing around the rim and that where I think he is underrated. Defenders have to respect the fact that he can drive. Although he wasnt as good of a college player as Reddick I can see him having a similiar type of NBA career. Borderline starter who can score points when needed. I think he should be drafted in the late teens early 20’s but I think hell go later than that.

When JJ Reddick came out of Duke, the Orlando Magic owner made it Known to his president & GM that he wanted Reddick taken with their 1st round pick…So when he was taken in the Lottery it everyone across the country, but surprised nobody that had heard the owner say who they were drafting….Even Reddick wasnt expecting a nba career..He was shocked to go in the lottery..Reddick had been learning Italian, preparing himself for live in Italy and a career in Italy..

I like Jenkins ability to play off the ball, come off screens and he’s a fantastic shooter,so in the right situation,he can thrive as a Kyle Korver style player off the bench..But what i dont like about Jenkins is that he’s a poor ball handler, poor defender, average athlete, struggles to finish at the rim and a poor passer…

I think his teammate Jeff Taylor is 1 of the most underrated players in the draft….

Are you kidding me?? JJ wasnt expecting an NBA career?? gtfoh. he may not have been expecting a 1st round pick but dont say he wasnt expecting a career. Simply to me Jenkins doesnt get the hype becuase of where he plays. Vandy isnt exaclty a hype factory.

Reddick said it several times that after his sophomore year at Duke,he didnt have high hopes of a NBA career….So he was learning Italian preparing himself for a career overseas…
