John Henson

I know its only 2 games in and he prob needs to add a bit more weight...

He is super long. Not only blocks shots but can change and alter opponents shots. This season he looks better and more assertive offensively. Did he work on his post game in the off-season ?

How do you guys see him ? Do you think he could sneak into the lottery ?

He's defintely a nice college

He's defintely a nice college player and alters many shots defensively, but I'm not sure how he will fare in the NBA. I like that he has improved every year and has added a mid range spot up jump shot, but his impact wont be nearly as large on the next level.

Brandan Wright isn't really a

Brandan Wright isn't really a good comparison. Wright actually had a decent low post game which is non-existant for henson. He's more of a skinnier tyrus thomas.

If he gains weight he should

If he gains weight he should be a solid NBA player. I wouldn't take him in the lottery but I would pick him in the twenties.

I don't know if he can gain

I don't know if he can gain much weight. he doesn't have that kind of frame. I would draft him later in the first round(depending on how the draft plays out). I think he could play a better offensive version of Chris Anderson in the pros.

I like the fact that he is a

I like the fact that he is a great rebounder, athlete, and a shot-blocker/defender who doesn't foul alot. That is nothing to sneeze at, but I am really scared about projecting him because of his narrowframe and how skinny he is. He has gotten bigger, but he's still narrow. I think he can play in the NBA though, in some capacity because of his shot-blocking and rebounding skills.

John Henson seems to have

John Henson seems to have added a nice jumpshot, from the games I saw he knocked all the open shots and even some turnarounds.

I think he will never be to good defensively, but he can probably come off the bench for an NBA team, giving them some rebounding, shot blocking and making some easy shots, he's 6-10 with 7-7 arms, so he's basically longer than some 7-footers, so if he can add some muscle I see him maybe even being an above average starter in the NBA. Although honestly I doubt he will gain too much.

Unlike Brandon Wright, Henson has actually really worked on his game

What the difference between him and Marcus Camby(when he came out)?

Or that question to anybody. Not saying he is Camby but he can hit jumpers rebound and block shots which is what Camby does.

Hasn't he supposed to have

Hasn't he supposed to have added 20 to 25lbs since he came to the Tar Heels, as he was well under 200lbs then and is now listed between 210 and 215lbs aprox.

With his length and playing on one of the top teams, I could see him being a top 20 pick at worse whenever he does declare and he has been prepared to return for his junior year so he could well stay on for his senior one especially with NC's talented roster at the moment.

I don't ever see him being a franchise changing player but he would be a very solid pick up for a later lottery/semi contending team as he size would give them options especially on a smallball team.

I dont know who I'd compare

I dont know who I'd compare Henson to. Some say Andrei Kirilenko, but I don't know about that.

I actually like the Camby

I actually like the Camby comparison the most. Probably less guard skills than Camby had coming in.

He is a college shot blocker

He is a college shot blocker who won't translate especially well. Successful NBA defenses are more about discipline and anticipation, and Henson is still just a long athlete who makes plays because he is a long athlete. In other words, he is a Wizard defender. Teams can always find long athletes who can play off the bench.

He's just too small when it

He's just too small when it comes down to it. He's made strides in his game every year which is nice to see for any prospect, especially those as raw as Henson is. Just too many limitations when projecting him to the next level. There's a role for him at the next level, but I don't see him being any more than a rotation guy. A lotto pick shouldn't be used on him imo.

I'm a Henson supporter, he is

I'm a Henson supporter, he is thin, but he's very active around the glass. Even playing against bigger guys in the NBA his length and activity will translate on the glass and in the shot blocking column, he's not going to be an offensive player, but he's gotten better and is by no means a liability down there.

If given sufficient minutes, I think he could be a contributer as a rookie, Ed Davis ( only 215lbs) had a lot of the same knocks as Henson and managed to be a productive rebounder when given good minutes and Henson is a longer player.

I don't think he'll be the dominant defender Camby was, but I think he could eventually be a 2 + block player and a guy who gets 8-10 rebounds per game. Theo Ratliff without the 10-15 footer.
