John Henson

Where do you guys have him ? Some have him as a late first rounders, other have him as a late lottery pick...........

I personally think he is a bit underrated and if NC do will in the tournament his stock will continue to rise....

A lot depends on when he

A lot depends on when he declares as this site has him listed on the 2012 mock drafts so I'd take that as his more likely declaring year. But if the Tar Heels have a good March Madness then his draft stock could rise and he might decide to declare.

Also if Harrison Barnes decided to stay I actually wonder if Henson might decide to declare as with James McAdoo coming in this autumn then the SF/PF minutes might be crowded. But the flip side might be that with a strong squad the Tar Heels could be real challengers next year and so Henson could chase an NCAA title and if so maybe improve his draft position.

I'd have him as a late lottery to mid to late first rounder when he declares.

He's

He's lottery whenever he declares, but he isn't an NBA player yet. He has several MAJOR holes in his game.

Super Noodle Boy has been one of my favorite players over the last few years, but he's a risky prospect. Where does he play? Can he add weight? Will his free throw shooting improve? Can he play more poised?

He brings more to the table than Anthony Randolph and Perry Jones did/does as draftees, but has the same kind of potential.

I'd like to know, what team do you guys think Henson would fit in? How about Jones? CJ Leslie? It takes very specific teams/coaches/teammates/systems to get the most out of defensive-minded role-players like Henson or ball-dominant positionless athletes like Jones and Leslie.

Not sure how this guy is

Not sure how this guy is lottery, I have him mid-late first round just based on potential. Potential means nothing if you can't convert it to basketball talent, and so far he hasn't.

He's too skinny and it doesn't look like he can put on much weight. Because of this he's probably a SF in the NBA, but he can't shoot a jumpshot or free throws.

His strongpoint in college is defense, but he won't be able to guard anyone in the NBA since he's to skinny.

One team where I think he

One team where I think he could fit in is the Knicks, he could almost do the Jared Jeffries role with some added offence, he could play alongside STAT or around STAT and Melo. I think he'd be better with an uptempo smallball team so the Knicks seemed like an ideal choice if he declares this year.

Phoenix may look at him but they have a crowded frontcourt already, Indiana were another team who could use his length alongside Roy Hibbert's size. Charlotte have lost Crash Wallace and with Tyrus Thomas being injury prone and Diaw expiring next year may look at him.

I don't see any of that

I don't see any of that translating when he goes up against bigger guys. I agree his playmaking is good but other than that I don't see it. Not good enough shooter for SF and to skinny for PF.

you think being skinny will

you think being skinny will be the reason his shot blocking or ability to run the floor and finish n transition won't translate?

bigger guys can use there

bigger guys can use there lower body and push him back to negate his shot blocking ability. I just don't see him being anything better than Brandon Wright.

Brandan avg like 6rpg 2bpg in

Brandan avg like 6rpg 2bpg in more PT than John..

and if rebounding and shot blocking wouldn't translate how about guys like Camby KG or even Ed Davis this year getting very good numbers in limited minutes.

i understand that strenght is major thing in defense and in the post but to grab a rebound or block a shot lenght is as important if not even more important IMO and Henson has is for sure

Nah

He plays nothing like Brandon Wright.

Henson was the ACC defensive player of the year. Andrei Kirilenko came into the league skinny as a rail and was one of the best shot-blockers in the NBA. Henson has similar length/athleticism/mobility.

Hitster - I also feel like Phoenix or Indiana would be a great place for Henson.

His shot blocking and

His shot blocking and rebounding will translate as well as his ability to run the floor.

I really like Henson as a prospect, he changes games in college with his defense. Teams are scared to drive it at UNC cause he holds down the paint very well, kinda in the same way as Josh Smith does in the NBA. I dont think he'll be anywhere near as good as Josh smith, but he has potential to become a very solid defensive role player.

A team that is weak down low when it comes to shot blocking and altering shots might take a chance on him. Not sure what team it is, maybe Charlotte like someone said.

Henson would be the sort of

Henson would be the sort of kid that a load of teams would have in for a workout as he's got an interesting skillset, whilst they may not consider him as their main draft prospect they would want to have a good look at him. Like any prospect he only needs to do one good workout and impress a front office to rapidly move up the draft board.

His combine figures will be interesting if his wingspan comes out as impressive and to see what weight he is going into the NBA.

He will be a real good shot blocker

He needs to add weight, but in the NBA during the off season these guys have nutrionist, and personal training that can get them exactly the right kind of muscle and conditioning that they need if they are willing to put in the work. H e will never be a big guy, Ed Davis is doing fine, and the NBA is not the NFL these guys are not power lifters majority of the time. It's an agility and conditioning, skills based sport. Yes they should lift some weights.

Some guys can put on weight

Some guys can put on weight others just cannot, KD has filled out hugely since he left High School for instance. I would think that the major colleges have nutrionists themselves though surely as most of the big colleges run a sporting programme to almost professional standards.

Austin Daye always had weight issues and recorded one of the lowest bench presses ever but was drafted in mid first round and is seeing decent minutes at Detroit.

I never really understand why the NBA combine does a bench press as tall guys with long wingspans are totally the wrong build to do big bench pressing unless you are a hoss like Dejaun Blair etc.

Seeing the subpar success,

Seeing the subpar success, but success at the very least that Milwaukee has had selecting Sanders should improve Hensons stock. The farthest he could slide is around 14, 15, 16, 17 with three of those teams currently seeming like teams Henson could be able ton help instantly and grow with going forward in Indiana, Phoenix, and New York. he could go as early as 8th with a very good increase in stock. I dobt Indiana, Phoenix, or New York would pass him up so I would say right now he is about 9 to 14.

Henson can play. He's already

Henson can play. He's already shown me more since ariving than Wright ever did. I was never too high on Wright, but Henson actually has a good motor and better deensive instincts. Camby,Sanders,Bosh,Chandlerand Davis. All those guys have managed to do it with having very similar frames.

And no, IMO, Henson absolutely will not be able to gain weight until it comes naturally with AGE. I remember Roy Williams commenting re season about how Hensonhad fought tooth and nail to gain weight and that they didn't know if he was going to be able to sustain the weight through and entire season. I beleive "He has a waist that some women would kill for." were Roy Wiliams words.
