After finally winning his first National Title does anyone see John Calipari taking another shot at coaching in the NBA? Listening to numerous analyst, they said that Calipari lives for challenges. I personally feel he still has unsettled business left in the NBA. If the New York Knicks come knocking on the door for John’s Services, does he go? If Charlotte gets the number one overall pick does Calipari reunite the Anthony Davis? At the end of the day Calipari did his part at Kentucky bringing them back to prominece and winning a championship. At the stage and age of his life I think he might give coaching in the NBA another shot. If it doesn’t work out he’ll always have the option to come back and coach at the college level. What do you guys think?

It just sounds like his motivation tactics are better for college basketball. Plus, while he is obviously not a bad coach in the least, some of these college coaches get to the NBA and realize they can not exactly recruit winning teams. That is what has made Calipari the coach he is at the collegiate level. I think he should stay in college and reap the benefits of his amazing connections/reputation.

If you ever read Jayson Williams book (it was called "Loose Balls"), he was just saying how the players in New Jersey never bought into Calipari’s system. The only college coach I know of who has had NBA success is Larry Brown, who is just an amazing basketball mind. Rick Pitino had two failed tries, one after he won a NCAA title at Kentucky plus got to choose Ron Mercer (not to mention Chauncey Billups 3rd, who they traded half way through his rookie season).

The entire Bobcats scenario sounds farfetched. First, they would have to actually get the first pick. Than, even with Anthony Davis, that team looks to be a couple years away from having the necessary pieces to compete unless they land someone big in free agency or a trade. I am not saying that college coaches could not possibly be successful in the NBA, but it is a must to land the right job and be in the right position. If Calipari took that Bobcats job or some other lotto ridden team, odds are he ends up back in college before he could get that team to turn around. Again.

No, he plans to retire by 2019. Can everyone lay off the rumors of him going to the NBA. These are the same people who believed that Coach K would coach the New Jersey Nets.

Coach Cal is like that 1 good teacher you had in high school that actually helped you prepare for the next level. Honestly as much as I’d like to see him take another crack at the NBA he’s better for Kentucky than any of these struggling franchising people want him to so desperately coach. He’s seems better at developing youth, getting them to play as a team and being a father figure to the ones that don’t have one. Even though the Bobcats have the best chance of landing #1 they could just as easily not get lucky and fall lower and who knows what MJ would do if he didn’t land the top pick…probably draft Perry Jones.

Honestly I can’t give him a lot of credit for winning the National Championship, sure some because it’s always a great triumph. But compared to past years it wasn’t a incredible coaching job, he had the best and most talented players in the college game today.. If he didn’t win it would have been one of the biggest dissappointments in the headlines this year… His recruiting is incredible. But he won’t be recruiting in the NBA so I don’t think he would do as well..
