Ive heard many times people and announcers say Joe Johnson is the most underrated/underapreciated superstar in the NBA. Ive gone to hawks games and heard many fans say JJ is the most Overrated superstar in the league. haha. My question is which is it? Im pretty indifferent when it comes to Joe. Never much cared to watch him play but at the same time when he goes off in a game im never really suprised either. The guy seems to just show up when he wants too. Im from around AtL, GA and i honestly think his demeanor is what pisses off many of the fans. He’s a quiet guy who hardly ever shows much emotion and i think thats what sorta makes many fans not appreciate him much. The guy def has game and can take over but he doesnt seem to be a leader for the squad. And many atlanta fans most def didnt think JJ would come back and were shocked that he signed that new deal with the hawks last year but at the same time its not unheard of to hear fans screaming he only cares about money. Its really a matter of ur own interpretation but hey who knows. So i wonder how other people feel about him. Is he good as advertised or is he a fringe superstar?

He is great in the regular season, or has been for the most part but come playoff time he never steps it up like you would expect your superstar to do, last season, against the Magic, he really did nothing to warrant getting such a big contract, do I think he is a star player? Yes he has shown he is capable of being the best player on playoff team but in terms of his contract, he did not deserve a contract like that, he has not proven to be THAT great of a player.

Hes not overrated, he barely gets any exposure. HOWEVER, I do think he is OVERPAID. No way is he worth a Max Contract.

I agree he is not worth a max contract, if a team has him as a 1st option that team will never win a ring

JJ is a 2nd Option..Any team that has him as the 1st wont win a championship….*hint/*hint

Fans who follow and know the game of basketball..Knows he’s a very good player, but not a franchise player….Its the announcers that hypes him up…

He was my favorite player even when he was in Phoenix. He has shied away from contact I think ever since he fell on his face in the 2005 playoffs (which I think if he were healthy, they win the whole thing).

He is probably the biggest strongest 2 guard in the league at 6’7 240. He is strong and in great shape but he is not an explosive athlete like LBJ or Wade. He isn’t quick, he is very methodical in his approach and it inhibits him from getting to the line.

I think that is what would make him a ‘superstar’, someone who can get to the line over 10 times consistently.

He averages 20 on FG’s alone. If he got to the line as much as say a D Wade, Durant, or LBJ, he would average over 26PPG thus making him a ‘superstar’

But he isnt. This coming from one of his biggest fans. He is what he is. A facilitator/scorer who can do a little bit of everything. He is OVERPAID but not overrated. A top 5 SG in the league.

Joe Johnson isn’t overrated, just overpaid. He doesn’t have the leader mentality, he’s probably a 1st option, but needs someone else on the team that can step up and lead the team in the playoffs alongside of Johnson. Similar to Wade and James being 1sts options on the same team.

He’s not a superstar. He’s another one of those guys I refer to as elite #2’s. They are guys who put up the numbers of a first option and bring you regular season victories, but they have something holding them back mentally from being able to carry a team to a title as the main option. He’s always reminded me a lot of Paul Pierce.

Man, it sure does suck he and Amare couldn’t get along, that was a hell of a team in the making.  That fall on the dunk attempt was NASTY!!!…..

Does anyone have a link to that, I’ve tried finding it ever since and haven’t been able to.

Correctly rated, very much over paid. Has #1 guy skill, but doesn’t have the mentallity or intelligence to be the guy and lead a team deep in the playoffs.
