mike_r232ParticipantWow! So, basically JJ Redick got a girl pregnant, and they brought their lawyers into it to create a contract that said JJ would “attempt to continue a relationship” with her for a year if she got an abortion. If they break up after that, he agreed to pay her $25K! He got off so easy! (pun not intended… but made me laugh after typing it). She could have got soooo much child support money out of this guy. Typically, this is the exact situation that groupies want to find themselves in. Here are some links:

Deadspin: http://deadspin.com/j-j-redick-and-his-ex-girlfriend-had-an-abortion-contr-883029608
Thoughts on all of this? I feel like JJ wins here.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantPretty Redickulous for her to agree to that, if you ask me.
And I agree, JJ wins bigtime in this one. Haha.

Stephen A. BaylessParticipantAs a UNC grad who actually respects Redick (for carving out an NBA career by transforming his game and making himself into a good NBA player, because coming out of Duke he wasn’t.) I initially thought it was a very douchebag Duke grad thing to do, until you read up some about the girl. She’s been involved with multiple athletes and has had legal disputes with a few of them.
At the time he was a 22 year old rookie, and that is normally when athletes are most vulnerable being new to that lifestyle. I’m glad he was able to protect himself. Not saying I agree with the contract, but male-female relationship conquests in the sporting world are so screwed up that you have to look at them in a different light.

llperezI don’t understand the backlash for jj here. He didn’t want to have a kid. Im sure he figured as a pro athlete, this girl might have one simply for the money. So he worked out a deal with her. Im pro abortion for anybody who isn’t interested in having a child regardless of reason. If she truly wanted to have the kid, she could have. So obviously it wasn’t too big a deal for her either.

You mean pro choice. Pro abortion just sounds like you encourage all pregnant women to have abortions. As for the topic, JJ improved his handle and decision making college so he knew how to break the trap.

llperezwell my full comment was pro abortion for people who do not want to have a child. I said pro abortion because simply saying pro choice leaves many who feel pressured into having kids for the sake of outside influences such as doing it for money, doing it to make a man stay with them, doing it because their religion says abortion is bad or whatever leaves open the idea that having a child for any reason other then the desire to raise and nurture one is acceptable.

JordanC20ParticipantWhen you are a millionaire you have more than enough to take care of a child…he needs to man up and take responsibility. There are always other options than killing a innocent unborn child. Children are a gift from God and it doesn’t matter what religion you are if you do something like this you are going straight to hell.
