Espn said that the twolves are interested to trade for jimmy butler for the 5th pick. What other player would they add to make that fair because that’s way to low for him

There’s no way I’d get rid of Lavine, Wiggins, or Towns. Beyond that, if I were GM I’d send whoever else they’d want.

I agree I wouldn’t want to include those players either.  However, the T-wolves probably won’t have enough assets to outbid the Lakers or Celtics for example.  A side note is apparently the Bulls like Kris Dunn.

So would I, but do you think the T-Wolves have more value and get more production out of Lavine and whoever they take at 5, or Butler? I think Butler is the better option but I feel that they will have to give up more to get Butler and that’s where I start to like this rumor less for the Timberwolves.

Can you offer me a quick explanation as to why you wouldn’t offer lavine in a trade for butler?

You are talking about acquiring arguably the best two way player at the position and all you have to give up is a draft pick and an unfinished prospect?

I understand the upside Lavine has, but Jimmy Butler is already a better play than Lavine is ever likely to be.

I take that trade if I’m the wolves

Jesus you rate Lavine.  He’s got some nice upside but if I can get Jimmy Butler I’m saying bye bye to Lavine and the 5th pick.

No way. Lavine has Russell Westbrook potential. Butler is a chucker that can barely make the allstar team in the east.

You guys obviously aren’t that high on Lavine and that’s fine but how can you say with certainty that he’ll never be as good as Butler? Look at what Jimmy was doing when he was zach’s age. Lavine as a 20 year old just had a better season than Jimmy had in his third year as a a 24 year old. Ya I know he’s a great defender and his offensive game has come along way, but I’d argue that Lavines already a better shooter (especially from 3) and he’s 5 years younger. With Lavines athleticism he still has a ton of defensive potential and actually he’s already pretty good at staying I. Front of his man on ball, just needs to get stronger to be able to get through picks and needs to have better focus off the ball. I expect all that to improve under tibs. Not to mention he has great chemistry with KAT and wig and they’re all close. I think bringing in Jimmy could create a strange dynamic as he’d probably want to be the #1 option over towns. As someone that watches every wolves game I would say that Lavines stretch of play last year when he was starting strictly playing the 2 is what makes me say giving him 5 and Gorgui is too much. Yes Jimmy is a really good player now but giving up Lavine Murray/buddy and a solid big in Gorgui is short sighted.

As a twolves fan, I would offer the 5th pick and shabazz and possibly dieng but they would need to get a PF back somehow or dump pekovic’s contract, but I don’t think that would be enough, although it would be a pretty good start to the bulls rebuild if they just started dumping players for picks to rebuild. Butler would fit in perfectly with the Twolves. He also could play to his strengths as a defender and playmaker. He wouldn’t need to score a lot because towns, wiggins and lavine could score and he would have protection at the rim in towns. A player like him could be the championship competitor/ veteran that they are missing kind of like iguadala but in his prime and better.

Only way I part with Butler is to include Wiggins. People will say "That’s asking too much" but Butler is one of the 15 or so best players in the game and an elite SG at a position without a lot of great two way all around players. I’m not that high on Wiggins anyway (I know, ludicrous of me to say but I really don’t think he has that much of an impact on wins and losses as his numbers would suggest), so if I were the Bulls it would have to be Wiggins+5 and hope that 5 turns into a very good player.

Serious question, what has Wiggins done so far to be untradable? I’m just saying realistically the Bulls aren’t giving up Jimmy butler for unproven draft picks and other ok players.

Cap-wise, this would be really difficult for the Wolves to pull off. Because their roster is so young, they have a lot of small contracts. Unless you can convince Chicago to absorb Pekovic’s deal or sell Rubio as insurance for Rose, I don’t see this happening without the Wolves giving up a major piece or mortgaging the next few years of first round picks.

I guess MAYBE you could offer Rubio, Bjelica, Dieng and the 5th pick for Butler. I doubt Chicago pulls the trigger on that unless they’re really high on Murray, Hield or Brown.

The Twolves have about $30,000,000 in cap space (assuming they deal the 5th pick, which they would in this case), so they could just absorb Butler’s contract if they wanted.

The Wolves want Joakim Noah too from all reports, so there may be a package deal in the works. Wouldn’t surprise me to see the Bulls keep a few young ones like Portis and skittle the rest of the roster for draft picks.

I don’t like this idea for the Wolves. You are going to have to give up at least No.5 and Lavine, plus some other pieces.

I get that Jimmy Butler is really good, but he was a 4-year player in college and a rotation guy for like 3 years before he really emerged. Wolves are paying Thibs all this money…how bout instead of trading the farm for Butler, go unearth the NEXT Butler?

How about a 3 team deal?

    Wolves get Butler and Noah
    Philly get Lavine
    Bulls get #5 and Okafor

Im sure a draft pick or player here or there to balance the deal could make it an option

Why is everybody coming up with trade ideas that involve Noah? He’s a FA and coming off a down year. If he’s interested in playing for a coach that he thrived under, I’m sure they can sign him dirt cheap. Only way I’d consider a sign and trade with Noah if I’m Minny is if your taking back Pek or Rubio. Still wouldn’t involve Lavine, Wiggins, or Towns. If you can’t get a deal done without them, let the Bulls trade him elsewhere

Not only must you include Lavine, I don’t understand who’ll argue against it. As much as I like Lavine, his freshman year I posted about him being a star and was heavily negged, he’s still all potential. He can be Kobe-ish or JR Smith. Wolves have two guys to build around in Town and Wiggins, Butler would be great to add. With today’s small ball and shooters, having both Wiggins and Butler defending the perimeter would be great.

To get Butler, Lavine and the 5th pick will need to be offered by Minnesota. I can’t see anyone wanting Rubio, so you’re stuck with him. Do everything to get this dude to improve his jumper.

Lavine avg 17/3/3 on 48% fg and 44% from 3 last year in the 33 games he started. I would argue against trading him because him KAT and Wig are close and all have the same time horizon. Plus Jimmy coming in I think would want to be the #1 option which could be awkward chemistry wise with KAT and Wig. Ya Lavine needs to get a lot better defensively but has the quickness and length to do so. Give him a couple years under Tibs and I think at the very least you’ll have an above average defender. Think of it this way, when Jimmy was Lavines age he was going into his senior year of college… Would sticking with Lavine require a little more patience? Of course, but I don’t want to risk breaking up the long term potential of these three young guys. While Jimmy would surely get you more wins this year and probably next I think it would be short sighted.

Butler is a top 15-20 player in the league, but if I’m Minny I’m not rushing it. Keep building it up, especially if they are confident Murray will be there at 5. I really believe Murray will be an all star one day. This should be Minny’s last year (in this era) picking so high in the draft. Guessing they will be picking somewhere around 11-17next year, so they should cash in on the high level of young talent the last time. A trio of a Towns 20 yo, Wiggins 21 yo, Murray 19 yo, is too promising for me to trade for Butler as good as he is.

I don’t want Thibs to build the Chicasota TimberBulls.

He didn’t have Butler right when he went to Chicago and they turned out okay.

I get the idea of having guys who buy in and guys who serve as examples…that isn’t worth all this young talent and upside they’ve got though. If Butler were 22 and controllable for 5-7 more years, then yeah I’d love that. He’s going into his age 27 season and he’ll have 2-3 years left on his contract. How much better is Butler getting? How quickly are the Wolves going to come together and do those timetables match up?

Thibs is getting paid huge money to coach/build the team. Go do that. Coach and develop some of these young guys into the next Jimmy Butler.

First off Hes 27, not that old and is just entering his Prime.. He will instantly improve this team, Thibodeau has a win now approach and hes made it clear he can turn a late round pick into a all star, so its safe to say he doesnt value all this upside/potential garbage..

Sad for Jimmy Butler’s lower extremities if he ends up back under Thibs thumb.

If I were trying to trade the #5 as the Wolves, I would be looking for a big instead. To me a deal for Mirotic would be much more realistic. Mirotic played well this season for the Bulls as a 4, and is pretty damn close modern prototype IMO for a stretch 4. He can shoot, he plays solid D despite not being a shot blocker, hes long and has some off the bounce game. Put him beside Towns and I think that’s a top notch big duo for the future. Plus, Mirotic is 25, so he will fit age wise (just a little older) with the rest of the team. I think he also has a pretty similar value to the #5 pick, so a trade wouldnt be that hard to nut out. Maybe a pick swap with Mirotic going one way and Muhammad or Dieng going to the Bulls. Or just straight up with a contract filler from the Wolves.

I honestly don’t want them to do that. They’ve got at least 3+ years before they’ll be legit contenders (almost all depending on Wiggins’s growth imo), and I’d rather see them get another young guy who’s prime will be more lined up with their core with someone who’s a little bit older. Besides, Jimmy clearly didn’t like sharing the spotlight in Chicago and I’m not sure that he would in Minnesota either, because KAT’s got a pretty bright light on him right now and Wiggins’s isn’t much dimmer

I don’t know which role could he accept in the T-wolves. As a Bulls fan I could accept a package of Dieng, Payne, the 5th pick, Lavine and or Shabazz. Don’t know if the Gar Pax duo is going to do trades to improve the roster. THEY SUCK!

No one is gonna pull the trigger on a lopsided trade. They do happen, but you cant really bank on it happening.

Jimmy Butler is worth Lavine and the top 5 pick.

Im not suggesting either team should pull the trigger, but fair is fair.

I’m a crazy big Timberwolves fan, the idea of getting Butler is obviously intriguing and exciting but I am cautious about it. I agree with everyone saying don’t trade LaVine, now I’m not saying that isn’t a fair trade or that LaVine is better than Butler. I think the young core of LaVine, Wiggins, Towns, and heck even Rubio (Yes I’m a Rubio fan) playing together for years and developing together could be absolutely nasty and a modern era spurs of domination. Throw in the 5 pick that could be a sharpshooting Buddy Hield, a high ceiling guard in Murray, or a great point guard in Kris Dunn and suddenly I value the 5 + LaVine more than Butler. I’ve suffered through the Wolves drought of sucking. Right now were on a clear path to being a great team idk who could argue were not, I’d rather not open pandoras box and break up our core when we know we will be good/great soon with this core. So that’s my opinion. Now if it were shabazz+5 and another role player yes I would do that trade.

You gotta make that trade bc of the FA implications. All of a sudden you’d be in the running for Mike Conley. And you’d defintley be in the running for 2017. You already have KG, and you’d probably sign Noah, so with those 2 im positive they will sign a big name PG or PF (preferably pg) in 2017.

Ie If OKC loses early next year you cant tell me Russ or KD wouldnt take a hard look at a team with KAT, Butler, Wiggins, and a A1 coach in Thibs.

The only reason I see Gar/Pax moving Butler to THIBS/t-wolves is: if Jimmy has said straight up trade me there(I won’t go anywhere else sort of deal like Mello did) or if the Bulls want to see him move west rather than stay east and go full rebuild mode,I’m just not sure if the Bulls want to go full rebuild just yet though…

So with keeping what most people think is essential: Rubio-you need a pg to run the team,Lavine(could play 6th man- sf/sg)Towns and Wiggins(untouchable at this point).

I could see maybe this deal at least getting the Bulls picking up the phone at least…

This deal has a few variables though: That Dunn is there at 5th pick/no one else picks him for another trade(assuming that’s who they want to try rebuild with) and that Jimmy will waive his no trade clause(apparently has this) and that Jimmy’s health is up to scratch(no hidden injuries from last season)..

So assuming that all happens: The deal looks like this..

    Bulls Give up: Jimmy Butler

    for

T-wolves give up: 5th pick in 2016 draft(Dunn),Timberwolves first round pick 2017-top 4 protected then only top 2 in 2018 which should be coveyed pretty quickly(my guess a top 8-12 at best next season if things keep on up swing),Gorgi Deng and Shabazz M.

Reasons both sides do it:Bulls get two solid pieces in Dieng(new Center to replace noah/pau) and Shabazz(sf/sg),Their PG of the Future in Dunn and a solid pick in an apparently good draft next year and players who may give Hoiberg a fresh start + be more mouldable to his system..

Another reason this deal may appeal as this is maybe a stronger deal than what Celtics are offering just picks in this years draft without much else that makes sense(Jae Crowder probably isn’t going anywhere which would be essential for any deal).

The reason Thibs does this as people above mentioned he gets his Vet in Jimmy who can help him implement his system, plays tough defense and a player that helps speed up the timeline a little to get back to contention…

Just because Minnesota shows interest in Butler (which should surprise no one, Thibodeau probably also wants other guys who have done well with him before), it does not make the #5 pick more valuable. This rumor was always going to come to pass. Butler is an All-Star on a pre-cap bump contract for the next three to four years. I don’t think there is a GM in the league that would give Marquese Chriss, Dragan Bender, or Kris Dunn over Butler at 26 with that contract in hand, or anyone available at #5 and LaVine. If the Bulls front office wants to be more pacey and with more threats from the arc, then Wiggins doesn’t fit either. Plus, who is talking on the phone? Thibodeau and Gar Foreman? Did they part ways on good terms? Do you really think either one is eager to do business with the other? Egos are not only reserved for Sam Hinkie manifestos.

In all likelihood, this trade will never happen.  I suspect Chicago would demand more than just LaVine.  Probably #5 pick, LaVine, and Shabazz and or Dieng, and I doubt Minnesota goes for that.  If Chicago actually wants to trade Butler, they’ll have plenty of suitors and probably get a better package than what Minnesota will offer.

If im Minny, Dieng is the real one that you’d 2nd guess. The coveted ‘rim protector’. Shabazz is a dime a dozen.

But STILL, even if the ONLY way to make that trade is #5, Levin, Shabazz, AND Dieng, i do it lol

Seems crazy but im positive with the cap going up they will easily replace whoever they woulda got at 5 (a pg) and dieng.

Bc as a free agent im running in line to play with Butler, wiggins, and Kat.
