I will admit during the course of the year I have been very harsh towards Jerryd Bayless and his talents, this was because he had no focus, couldnt run the team, turned the ball over at will, and was asleep on defense. This has changed with Bayless in his last 4 games. I know 4 games isnt much, but he is showing everybody waht we have been waiting for. A discipline Jerryd Bayless who plays within the Raptors system. Over the last 4 games Bayless is averaging about 9-ppg, 5-apg, 2-rpg, 1-spg, and shooting 55% from the field and about 70% from 3. This doesnt seem like much but he is only getting spot minutes at PG and shooting gaurd behind Calderon, Derozan, and Bayless and is playing very good defense. He also only had 1 single turnover in those 4 games.

Last time Bayless played Detroit he had 31-points on 12 shots, and 7 assists helping Toronto come back from a 25 point deficit. The game in England that went to 3 overtimes he was matched up against Williams and played great, I expect him to have another great game tonight and start getting big minutes during the end of the year.

Hopefully he continues this good play and builds on this instead of just having another horrible performance and falling back on the end of the becnh.

I didnt care for his game either but your on to something.  We will see how this works.  I would like to see him with a tyree evans type of guard, that way if he has struggles during the game, he could slide over to the two guard until he gets focused again.

I love love love Bayless’ game, but the only thing I hate is when he settles for too many jump shots rather then attack the basket. He has a nice stroke, but even if he is off he will still fire it up. Very very underrated athlete as well, he has a lot of bounce but you would never know unless you seen highlight clips from HS. I was upset when he got traded to the Blazers, because they did not give him the opportunity to run the team. I feel as though he would have been a better fit in the Pacers system after I took notice of him not getting burn. Hopefully Toronto will be his permanent home, when or if they decide to get rid of Calderon. If Toronto so happens to get the #1 pick which may end up being Kyrie Irving, Bayless can kiss those dreams of becoming the full-time starter goodbye.

ya your right…. 9ppg and 5apg isnt much at all…… about 80% of players in the nba could put up those numbers given the minutes bayless gets. btw i was stoked when we acquired him but my excitement has tapered off quite a bit

The 9ppg and 5assists is very good considering he only had 1 turnover in those 4 games. Thats a 20 to 1 turnover ratio. Anyways the stats dont matter, its the mentality, the fact that he is not jacking up those shots like Memphis said, hes figuring it out. I feel like at times Bayless gets very upset because he believes he is one of those guys, you know what guys I mean. He thinks he should be mentioned in the same category as Rose, Westbrook, Wall, and other super athletic PG’s because he does have the tools to be like that, so he goes out and tries way too hard. Right now he looks like he is accepting his role and just giving it all on defense well being a mature floor general during his time on the court. If he keeps this up I wont even be upset if the Raps miss out on Irving. hes only 22.

I always liked the idea of adding him to this rebuilding Raptors team, but I do not really see him as a starting point guard. Usually when he is given a larger role in a game he tries to hard and does not play in himself. I see him being a 6th man, kinda like Barbosa(who we have to get rid of to rebuild, he is taking to much time and SHOTS away from players like Bayless and DeRozan). Bayless coming off the bench as a 1 or a 2 to give shooting, defense, and some play making would be nice to see and I think he can excel in this role. I do not see him as the future point guard for the Raptors (cross fingers for Irving!!!), but I would like to see Bayless stay with the team and grow with the other young players we have and hopefully learn better point guard skills from Calderon..

If he plays the type of defense he played on Williams every night, the raps dont have any problems at PG.

If he is just there to play defense at the point guard position the Raptors will be screwed because not many other players can create for themselves and others like Calderon, say what you want about his defense, but he makes this team go. He pick and rolls with Amir and finds everyone else for open shots. Bayless, Bargnani, and DeRozan are good at creating oppurtunities for themselves but rarely for others and the ball will stop when it hits their hands. Amir/Davis can’t create for themselves and have to look for Jose to give them the ball in the right position. James Johnson has some creating ability but he is hit and miss.. The guy that actually creates the most for others, other than Calderon, is Julian Wright, but he rarely plays.

Just saying, as of know, I would take Calderon over Bayless.

I said the PG position s set if Bayless plays this kind of defense consistantly, I never said Calderon should necassarily be moved in order to let Bayless start. Calderon and Bayless make a good tandem as long as Bayless can play those big minutes against PG’s like he has been doing. Go back to the dual PG method like when Ford was here, thats when Calderon is most effective, and thats when Toronto was winning.

Agreed. One more year there wouldn’t hurt. Always thought he had a little Monta Ellis/Jason Terry to his game.

With Bayless though, they never really trust him to run the show. When they put him in it is usually beside Barbosa because they dont trust Bayless to handle the ball and run the team. It looks bad that they would rather trust a black hole, put up every shot guy like Barbosa than Bayless in running their team. Bayless would be best by a big point guard or a shooting guard who controls the ball.

Career back up that has a couple of games every year where he puts up great numbers.  goo player off the bench to have on your team. Will have fans of his who every year think he can be a starter but never realizing that’s not who he is.
