By no means am I making this thread to suggest that Barton should be ranked in top 10 as Jeremy Lamb is, but then again, why shouldn’t he be discussed in the same sentence as Lamb? Lets compare the two:

Both have the same length and about the same wingspan. Athletically they are about as equal. Barton is actually the better skilled player off the dribble, while Lamb has more consistant jumpshot, but Barton has really improved on his range this season.

Statistically they are both the same (infact Barton is a much better rebounder), Barton is the more aggressive player, and shows more emotion on the floor.

Lamb has done it in bigger stage, but you can’t blame Barton because UConn has better players and gets more exposure compared to Memphis.

So why isn’t Barton in the same level as a prospect as Lamb?

I would say that barton has a ton of ability but I think lamb is more wiry strong than him. I also think it is an exposure thing with how well he did in the dance last year. He made the most of his moment playing off of kemba and then him leading the usa team over the summer as well as living up to his hype has him over a guy like barton. Let me say this though if barton continues to play this way and lead them to the elite 8 this year somehow, then they will give barton the respect he deserves.

I always wonder as well, why Barton has all of a sudden become “under the radar”, when he was coming out of high school he was one of the biggest names in his class. Then again, that’s what he gets for choosing Memphis over any big name basketball program.

Jeremy Lamb is better at every aspect of basketball than Will Barton. It has alot to do with the fact he’s alot more polished, but I can’t think of a single thing Barton does than Lamb. Barton also seems to need the ball alot more to be effective than Lamb

I think you are over simplifying it by comparing there builds, stats and athletisism. Lamb is a great shooter, he has a mid range game that is non existent in this generation of players, and is a great 3pt shooter as well. Barton is more of a slasher who needs the ball in this hands, while Lamb is just as affective coming of screens and playing away from the ball as a spot up shooter as he is with the ball. Lamb is also just far more polished and fundementally sound then Barton.

JNixon hit it right on the head, Lamb is superior at every aspect of the game.

The fact that Lamb is so polished has me a bit worried though. If he’s polished now how much better can he really get? Barton who we all can say needs work with playing off the ball, range on his jumpshot (which has shown steady improvement) etc yet we can all almost agree that he will be taken in the first round, how much better can he get? I am willing to go out on a limb and say that IMO Barton will have a more productive PRIME as a pro. He has such a killer attitude on the court and his skill with the ball in his hands will translate well to the NBA. Developing a off the ball skill set is not such a far fetched idea with his speed and explosiveness, mostly I think he just has never been asked to play off the ball… I’m not saying Lamb will be a bust at all… I just think Barton can and will get much better.

LMAO what? How is Lamb a better rebounder or playmaker then Barton? Also in which way is he a better finisher at the rim. Lamb is the better playe but dont act like Bartons some scrub.

not having will "the thrill" barton in the 1st round is a slap to the face to his game. main problem i see with barton is that i always see him prevail mostly on fast breaks, lamb can do his work easily in a half court offense

I think Barton does get overlooked at times. He is not in the same conversation as Lamb for many reasons.

Memphis is not exactly a huge contender this year, and usually plays lower level teams in their conference play. The best three teams the Tigers played this year were Louisville, Michigan, and Geortown twice and Memphis lost all 4 of those games.

As skinny as Lamb is Barton is even worse. He also has a very narrow frame and although he will obviously be able to put on more weight he kind of reminds me of Corey Brewer physically. Wiry strength and effort can only take you so far in the big leagues.

With Barton relying on finishing at the rim and taking 5 FT a game in the college level it will be tough for him too produce at a similar level in the pros. He will be playing much stronger and much more athletic players. He may take a beating unless he adapts his game, and if he adapts his game to not take a beating he may not be as productive ass projected before the adjustments.

Barton also seems like a bit of a wild card type player. Not quite like a Nick Young, Demarcus Cousins, Mike Beasley type guy but anyone who gaurentees a National Title two years in a row, the first time before he even played a game for Memphis will be looked at kind of wierd by anyone.

Although the talent is defenitely there, he has to be a Top 10 talent in this draft. I think he will be picked up just outside of the lotto although he has the potential to be one of the best players in the draft.

Barton isn’t a better playmaker than Lamb to me. He probably is a better rebounder, but dominating the ball and passing every once in a while skews that aspect of his game, greatly. I don’t think Barton will average near 9 boards if you project him to the NBA. He still shows a raw understanding of passing and making smart decisions. Barton would struggle greatly to rebound at the level he does now if he played in the Big East or against the teams Lamb has faced. I think Lamb is a better passer than Barton, if that’s what you mean by playmaker. I also feel that Lamb is better at making efficient plays with the ball offensively in terms of creating offensively.

How exactly would Barton struggle rebounding against the teams Lamb has faced? Barton has faced a tougher schedule than Lamb has up until this point. When we get into conference play a little more Lamb will have had the tougher schedule, but right now Barton has faced much better competition than Lamb has this season.

Also your underrating Barton’s passing, he is a very good passer.

Barton is better scorer off the dribble and creates his own shot better than Lamb can, and as mentioned Barton is a better rebounder. People talk as if Lamb is head and shoulders above Barton, Barton is no slouch, the guy has a ton of talent and skills.

I do not agree that Barton is a better scorer off the dribble than Jeremy Lamb. H’s more likely to force the issue off the dribble than Lamb, there is a big difference.

I have legit doubts that Barton would average 9 rpg if he played in the Big East as a 6’6 175 SG, or against the schedule UConn has faced this year. Rebounding isn’t a do or die asset in projecting a SG to the NBA anyway though.

Barton has played three games against Big East teams this season(Georgetown twice, and Louisville), in those games he’s averaging over 10 rebounds a games.

Every post with Barton, I will continue to say the same thing, his weight is a major concern to me, likeOhCanada said Lamb is skinny, but Barton is severly skinny, he needs to add weight to that frame quick, I don’t understand how these guys go to the best schools in the world, have the best of everything and some don’t gain weight. He will get pushed around so much in the NBA if he doesn’t gain weight, he might can attack on Dexter Strickland and not get knocked off path, try that against Joe Johnson,Kobe Bryant, strong grown men, get knocked around like a fly lol.

I guess that means he could average over 10 rebounds per game in the Big East huh

No, but it shows he is perfectly capable of averaging close to 9 rebounds a game in the Big East. Rebounding isn’t all about size, it has a lot to do with hustle and positioning.

I saw Barton play live the other night and he isn’t impressive. He got alot of tip ins off his own misses and this is against Houston who doesn’t have much size. When he was guarded by our good defenders(Alandise Harris who is 6’5 and strong & Jonathan Simmons 6’6 and athletic) he didn’t get to the rim. He got most of his points on cuts to the rim and offensive rebounds where size and athleticism isn’t Houston’s strength. His jumpshot doesn’t look like it will ever be consistent. I think he is more of a Josh Howard type player while Jeremy Lamb you will be able to give him the ball in the NBA and he will be able to score 1 on 1. I don’t think Barton has that consistenly on the next level.
