Jennings leaping ability. Does it stand as his X factor?
It will help him be a better finisher than TELFAIR, but he will be a below average finisher still because he is weaker than Telfair and as a matter of fact most NBA pg's so he wont be a great finisher. He (like Telfair) will be able to get into the lane because he is so explosive, but until he gets bigger and stronger he will finish bad in the league. That is until he becomes a better shooter. That is Telfair's main problem, his inability to shoot good. They will just play 10 feet off of you until you prove you can shoot
There are lot of small athletic points in the NBA doing well so Jennings should be alright. Also Telfair is not garbage. He is streaky and once he gets a solid J and improve his defense he will be aright
remember he came out of high school.
Telfair and jennings are very much the same PG. Both lighting quick, great crossovers, excellent vision. Both pioneers, Telfair 1st PG drafted out of high school, Jennings 1st player to play over seas after high school. Both have or had enough potential to be an elite player in the pros, however on paper doesn't always translate to success.
is a little quicker than Telfair and definitely jumps much better. He's just so small and we have nothing to judge his "game" on. European ball is completely different than the NBA, so he is coming into an unknown world. Time will tell.
how are people saying jennings is too small and then sayin rubio will be fine? lol rubio is just as skinny and less athletic. Telfair is trash and was completely overhyped. And even without a jumpshot, the fact that jennings can finish will carry him for a while. Coming into the league tony parker didn't have a jumpshot but he was quick enough to get to the basket and get the ball to his guys. Eventually people can't collapse the lane on you and he'll have open dunks. Plus its not like jennings jump shot is the second coming of ben wallace, the kid can hit shots.
@nthegoodlife, um, hes only played 1 year in europe. Hes not like rubio who has ONY played in europ. Jennings has the best of both worlds since he went to high school in the usa, so he knows how the game here is played as opposed to euro players coming over and have that like 3 year adjustment period ala uric on the raptors and dragic on the suns who look completely lost on the court.
didnt ricky rubio play pro europe ball for like 3 years or so and also played in the olympics and did pretty damn well. im not sold on jennings i think flynn or lawson could be better point guards
As far as we know Jennings is 6'1"+ which if anbody remembers is what D. Rose was officially measured at. Jennings is athletically comparable but Rose is stronger. Jennings will be less effective around the rim until he bulks up but he already is a better shooter than Rose. Wall is the one to watch. PG in the NBA is going to be the most star-studded position in a few years for the first time since 1971
All I said was, we don't have anything to judge him off of. I didn't realize high school play determined how he'll translate into the NBA. Now with your knowledge I feel much better about understanding the game. I didn't recall anyone saying he was "to small", but he is SMALL. That is a fact.
bron42, The advantage rubio has is that he is not small, he's 6'4". that's 3" taller than jennings, so to say that jennings is more athletic and just as skinny doesn't make a difference because it has nothing to do woth the fact that they are not even close to the same size.
1 jennings iz a way better scorer and athlete then both telfair and rubio, 2. rubio to me iz overhyped ok he played well in the olympics against the U.S.A thats one game. 3. jennings iz way more well rounded then both telfair and rubio, rubio iz slow he cant jump and didnt prove he can shoot neither.
I hate when just becuase brandon had one bad season ppl are all ready to cast him off as a bust jennings wasnt the #1 highschool player in 2008 for nothin the kid can play.
I also hate when sports writers ruin these kids lives by comparing them to player when there in like there 3rd yr in highschool.
I like your grammar dolla, anyways what makes you such a good judge of talent. People come in these threads telling what players will be great and what players won't, like they though this stuff for a fact. Its just crazy to claim this stuff at this point in either Rubio or Jennings career.
BTW- Greg Paulus was the number one PG just a few years before Jennings
jennings did not have a bad year..his stats are pretty much the norm for pgs over there and most are alot older..rubios stats where pretty compareable to jennings his edge was that he is used to the european game..if jennings played that long over there he would have better stats because hed be used to the game..he has the advantage in the usa because hes used to tghe game thats played in the nba...that greg paulus number one pg thing is laughable..everyone that plaed that year would tell you that he wasnt the best pg but when you rank the best as far as morgon wotton or gatorade player of the year award its is based off of talent and class work with character mixed in
yeah alot of sport writers dont do some of these kids justice...and most people havent even seen rubio play other than highlights and the olympics ( avg 4pts 3ast) so i dont understand why they think hes gonna be great other than what other people are telling them

Does Brandon Jennings leaping ability and athleticsm make him different than Telfair, or are they still considered the same. I think that Jennings is a superior run and jump athelete over Telfair which will allow him to finish more than Telfair. I dont know how good his shooting is, but he was hitting shots on stepbacks when guys had to give him ground. It looked like guys have trouble with his speed, and if he develops the jump shot he will be pretty good. I think his ability to set up teamates is better than people expect. Every point guard looks better when he plays with better talent. The same for Rubio. He will make more spectacular plays when he has other guys who can run and take off from anywhere and finish. What do you think?
