What's up with the disrespect for him? People saying he's not worth 8mil a year, Schroeder is already as good as him, etc...
Jeff Teague is good, REALLY REALLY GOOD, 15 and 7 last year and he gets better each year, and is only a hair away from being an elite athlete in the NBA.
He's better than Jennings, and 5x better than Schroeder, Teague honestly is a top 15 PG, Top 10 some nights when he plays aggressive.
He is good, not very good. I consider him a middle tier PG. Schroeder hasn't played in a regular season game yet. However, I see a lot more potential in him having legit court vision and being a true PG.
So far in summerleague Schroeder has looked good, I will give him that, but the boy's IQ on defense(off the ball) is atrocious.
He cant shoot, IDC what the reports overseas says, he is no way better than Teague right now, not even close.
Teague is very very good, just watch this season, no Josh Smith= Big time Jeff Teague
I've not heard anyone talk bad about Teague, so not sure what you're on about. But he's not "REALLY REALLY GOOD", that seems like a bit much. Starting caliber and somewhere in the middle of the pack when it comes to top PG's (10-20)
I'm with the poster. Two verys may be overkill but I could see him (if he ever gets to the playoffs again) having a Mike Conley type of postseason.
Teague is REALLY REALLY GOOD, and he will prove it this year, im telling you Josh Smith held him back, watch what he does without Smith.
I haven't seen the Teague hate you speak of but I would say he is right on the cusp of being a top 15 PG in the NBA. He is a little bit better than Jennings in my mind and I would put him on the level of a guy like Jrue Holiday. I did rankings of the point guards not too long ago and he was right at #15. He is ahead of guys like Calderon and Dragic even though he isn't as efficent as they are because his ability to get into the paint.
I don't think he smells the top 10 though because there are so many really good PGs in the NBA. Westbrook, Rose, Paul, Irving, Curry, Williams, Parker, Rondo, Conley and Lawson are all better than Teague without a doubt. I would also put Damian Lillard, John Wall and Kemba Walker ahead of him for sure as well. After that it gets a little more debatable with guys like Jennings, Holiday, George Hill and Kyle Lowry. Looking at it he is an average NBA starting PG when you rank the players so he is worth 8 million because players like Jeremy Lin who aren't even top 20 PGs make 8 million a season.
I don't know what Schroeder shooting percentages are, but he has a good looking stroke. It's likely the new setting and jitters. All of Teague's skills and game to me is just average at best, other then his athleticism.
Look on other boards and you will see people hating on Teague, saying he isn't worth that much, he's average PG, etc...
He's better than George Hill, Lowry, etc.....he will be top 10 after this season I truly believe it
Teague's game and skills average?
Schroeder cant shoot, just cause it looks good means nothing, it has to go in!
Ok, you tell me what Teague does that blows you away ? Other then his athleticism. I don't see a single thing he does great.
What do you mean? If that's the case.... You tell me one thing:
Do besides their athletic ability, Teague is a better ballhandler than both for sure.
Rose has a far superior handle to Teague's. Teague is a good-elite athlete but Westbrook is an athletic freak. Both are more adept at scoring with jumpers, contact layups/dunks, and Rose has a nice floater. Don't get me wrong I think Teague is a borderline top 15 PG in the league but that's actually not saying all that much.
You're insane. Rose and Westbrook are better than Teague on nearly all aspects of their games. They're 2 of the best finishers in the game. Rose's ballhandling is far superior to Teague's. Westbrook and Rose are both better scorers BY FAR. I don't even think Teague is as good of passer as Rose.
He isn't touching Rose skills in handling the ball. He has some the best cross overs in the league while he was healthy. Perhaps Teagues handles are on par with Russell. Rose has to take a lot shots because of his team, but he has very good shot selection, imo. Westbrooks rebounds great for a guard, and if he focused on it can be a first all team defender.
Have you ever watched Teague hand;e the ball when actually breaking down someone? Indianabasketball will even agree, Jeff can hit you with multiple moves in an instant believe Jeff handle is as good as anyone's in the League, CP3 even said Jeff was one of the best scorers he's EVER seen after he saw Jeff playing at Wake before his Sophomore year, the reason yall aren't high on Teague is because he hasn't shown it yet, this year he will, if you watched him at Wake his Sophomiore year you will understand where im coming from.
So we should be high on him based on something he hasn't shown? Personally, I've seen him go on streaks of going in scoring bursts when his outside shot is falling and when he gets to utilize his speed on the open court. He has decent court vision and has enough basketball iq to pass the ball to an open man. A starting caliber point guard who is worth a bit more than the mle. 8 I think is kind of high for him but still acceptable. He has to turn down his TO's a lot though For him to boost his eficiency
So you're saying that we can't judge Schroeder on his shooting because he hasn't shown it yet but we should judge Teague favourably because he hasn't shown elite scoring yet? Doesn't make sense to me.
I don't know when his Sophomore year is, was it 6 years ago ? Every Pg in the league has good handles, but Teague compared to Cp3 or Rose and some other makes him just average.
You crazy, Teague can handle the ball with antybody in the LEAGUE
Teague is a good middle tier PG. He isn't bad at anything. I don't why you are pushing so hard to make him out to be some kind of star player.
My guess, Marquis Teague will become better than his brother.
Is gonna lose his job.
Jeff Teague reminds me of Terrell Brandon - good but not good enough based on the opportunity he's been given
Brandon Averaged 19 PPG and made the all-star team his last two seasons in Cleveland when he was 25 and 26. Teague is about to approach that age so if he improves his production without Smith on the roster than he will be in the class as Terrell Brandon...at this point he isn't even that good.
I dont think there is any hate...if there is...it is only mild. To somewhat side with the OP....Teague could be poised for a breakout season somewhat like Harden did last year. I know we may have predicted that for Teague last year once Joe Johnson was gone....but now its a new coach and system. Teague is a player to me who has never been a guy who was to be considered the guy...unless more accidentally...like at Wake. If his mentality clicks....he could be an All-Star. He still has sort of a background mentality. I think he is All Star caliber but thats as far as I can go because he doesnt do anything great...especially on defense that would put him in any sort of elite category.
I don't think Jeff Teague is an elite point guard but he's definitely a good option for your team. I feel like he's been underrated for most of his career going back to high school. I remember watching him when I was in 8th grade and dropping 40+ points on a team that was top 10 in the state. I saw a lot of good high school basketball in those years (i.e. Eric Gordon, Oden/Conley at LN) and that game that Teague put together ranks as number 1 on the list of individual performances that I ever saw in person.
