Tha King2121ParticipantWhat’s this teams potential? I’m watching them now and I see they have a solid group of player.
PG: Burke
SG: Burks but they use him off the bench but still plays alot of minutes
SF: Gordon Hayword
PF: Favors
C: Kanter
With this years high draft pick. So basically they have their roster for the next 5 ish years so its all about how they develope, but are these guys a potential playoff team?

Tha King2121ParticipantSide note, ever single time Gordon Hayword goes to the rim he trys to dunk or finish strong, he never backs down, gotta love it

jwall1ParticipantIt depends who they get. Their starting lineup is good, but I’m still not sold on Enes Kanter…

hoopgeniusParticipantWatched the game tonight and got to see Rudy Gobert for the first time really and his upside is threw the roof. Possesses crazy length and a great motor. As a defensive presence alone he has game changing potential. The Jazz need to develope him as he is a true Center. Kanter is undersized at the 5 and I just don’t see the upside there. This kid Gobert is IMPRESSIVE!

butidonthavemoneyThis roster absolutely has playoff potential. They’ve been 15-17 with Trey Burke as a starter, and still have a ton of room to improve.
I think eventually Burke and Hayward will grow out of a lot of mistakes that they are currently making. Hopefully, the team can add another decent scoring option to take the load off of those two and increase the team’s efficiency overall. Hayward is much, much better than a 42% shooter from the field, but playing the team’s first option when he should be the second or third is hurting him.
Favors will be good. I’ve never seen him developing into much more than a great fourth scoring option, but if his passing ability continues to improve and he continues to refine his mid-range shooting than he’ll be an excellent power forward.
Burks is a great scorer, but doesn’t profile very well as a starter alongside Hayward and Burke. I love him coming off the bench though.
Kanter has been an atrocious defender this season, though he’s improved since his benching. Like Favors, he also needs to improve his passing if he wants to be a decent team player. That being said, he has great scoring potential.
If I’m the Jazz I stay the course. At the end of the year, I draft the BPA (Embiid tops my big board) with the lottery pick, then maybe a small forward that can play off the ball with the Golden State pick, and maybe a backup point guard in the second round (I’m a huge fan of Aaron Craft). I would not extend either Burks or Kanter unless they would be willing to sign for sixth-man money, giving them another year to prove what they’re worth and potentially keeping them after.
With much of the dead-weight gone, a more experienced core and a lottery pick; I’d expect the Jazz to be competing for a playoff spot next season.

Pack AttackParticipantThe Jazz will be fine so long as they draft BPA rather than reach to fill a need. They have a great core but none of their young guys have shown that they’re completely untouchable. There’s so many potential all-stars in this draft that missing the pick here would definitely limit the ceiling of this team. Exum would be a great pick if he was available (assuming they play out the season with their recent form and fall out from Embiid/Wiggins/Parker contention).

Mr. 19134ParticipantAs a Sixers fan I think the Jazz is one of the best landing spots for Evan Turner. Turner seems like a perfect fit for the current core and heres why.
Let me start by stating that I feel like because of the Doug Collins shackling and chaining start of his career hes developed Iinto possible the most underrated young wing player in the league because Turner is a big time player whose already thrown a wrench in the Sixers tanking plan by single handedly winning a few games this year like his tough game winners at the buzzard against the Nets and Celtics and his double overtime performance against the Cavs.
But besides all that its his unique skill set that would make him a great piece to the Jazz core. For starters his ball handling and ability to effectively run a half court offense would take pressure off Burke and Hayward and open them up for cleaner looking shots. And though Turner still struggles shooting from distance his mid range game can is becoming deadly and hes shown the ability to literally get to the rim at will this year and his interior passing ability is elite which would allow the Jazz big men easy opportunities.
I like the idea of a Turner/Kanter swap. Hayward and Turner would become a tremendous wing tandem and I think Favors is better served as a Center in the Tyson Chandler mold then a PF shooting 15 footers.
This would enable the Jazz to snag one of the PFs if they dont get a top 3 (Embiid, Wiggins, Parker)
PG: Burke
SG: Hayward
SF: Turner
PF: Randle, Vonleh, Gordon
C: Favors
6th: Alec Burks, Gobert, GS pick
What do Jazz fans think?

aztwulfParticipantI really like Gordon Hayward as a player. Works hard, shoots the ball well, plays within the team concept, and goes to the basket strong. Solid effort on defense. I think he is the Jazz best player, and develops into a borderline All-Star.
Burke will be a nice point guard as he matures. I could see him becoming a “poor mans” Tony Parker, a crafty, gets to the spots he wants “point”.
Favors is a nice interior defender, but looks pretty limited offensively. I don’t think he has developed like everyone thought he might when he entered the league, and his ceiling might be lower than most of us expected. Favors could be a nice defensive minded 4 on a playoff team, kind of the Ibaka role, only without the outside shot.
I don’t like Kanter much. What is he, a 4 or a 5? He gets overwhelmed when he plays in the paint against true centers. I would move Kanter for other assets.
Gobert looks like he could be an excellent center some day. Extreme length and pretty good feet for a true 7 footer. Nice motor. I could see a Roy Hibbert type career for Gobert.
This team could easily be playoff bound, as soon as next year maybe, with one more piece and a little more depth. I don’t know what the market is for Kanter, but that is the one player that I would try to move. With the right pick in the lottery this could be a fun team to watch, and good on both ends of the court.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantpersonally I think parker is a ideal fit with the Jazz.
don’t forget that they technically have enought room to add a max free agent to this group also. but might not be the best move

ibe12ParticipantI agree with you. I think Parker would be a nice fit there as well. Embiid would also help them a lot as well.

hair of the barnesParticipantImagine if they had gotten Harrison Barnes, he would have been perfect for them. They still probably could have gotten Trey Burke because I don’t think having Harrison Barnes in 2012-13 would have gotten them that many more wins to drop the Jazz from getting Burke.
Burke/Hayward/Barnes/Favors/Kanter(Gobert) + 2014 pick, but no warriors pick this year (23rd)
As a Warriors fan, that tanking in the 2011 season was stuff of legend and we still almost even screwed that up and lost the pick to the Jazz.
Also sidenote: I know hindsight is 20/20 but it would have been interesting if the Jazz had taken MCW over Burke

HitsterParticipantFavours and Kanter are still a bit of a mystery to me, they had this huge upside but were stuck behind Jefferson and Millsap and this year they got the chance to become starters but whilst their output has improved, the Jazz as a team have still struggled a bit.
Very good point as always by But I Don’t Have The Money about them being 15-17 with Burke in the side, so the Jazz are almost in a false position in the lottery due to their poor start to the season.
Utah’s draft options are interesting as they have good players in most positions where the draft stars play. I’d rule out Marcus Smart due to them already having Burks and Burke at PG. Embiid would have to be looked at but if they took him I could not see how they could also keep Kanter and extend him. Also Gobert is an interesting prospect but would not be reason enough to pass on Embiid.
Jabari Parker looks the perfect fit for them if they could get a shot at him, he’d fill the SF role seamlessly and could give them a volume scorer plus having played under Coach K he’ll have had a great defensive grounding.
