 So Jaylen Brown got off to an excellent start offensivel;y against the Cavs. He scored 25 points on near 50% shooting with a couple of threes. He missed some threes throughout the game that really could have helped his team and still needs to work on tightening up his handle but overall his aggresiveness after losing teammate Gordon hayward is what stood out. Defensively he played great as well but lebron just decided he wasnt going to be stopped tonight.

What can we expect from Jaylen this year. I actually think he will average around 35 minutes per game for Boston this year even when Morris returns as he can play SG, SF and PF and also has been a vocal leader despite being only 20. I think offensively he could average 17-ppg as Boston is going to need a consistent second option.

Brown was great and will play heavy minutes. The team was already going to be stretching his minutes as they were pretty small. I expect he’ll be the second leading scorer after Kyrie.

Ainge will be back on the phone now. They need to replace Hayward, preferably with a 4 or 5. Bobby Portis appears to be packing bags, he may be a good pick up.

I’m all for adding Bobby Portis to fill out the roster.  Does anybody know what the league policy is for suspension when it comes to a player that assaults a teammate?  A long suspension for Portis might make the Celtics less likely to pick him up.

 I saw he got an 8 game suspension for the incident. He is a talented player and likely will be worth the risk for some team.

 Brown and Tatum will both get alot more run with Hayward out now. This will give them both big numbers and big minutes and aid in their development quicker.

 Brown looked very aggressive and confident last night. I can see him average 18-20pts a game this year. MIP candiate as well, was looking to score everytime he touched it. Great compliment to Kyrie.

Watching Brown last nite compared to just 2 years ago at Cal & he looks like a completely different player

 He looked like the exact same player to me, I dont know what you guys were watching while he was at Cal. He lacked confidence in his 3 point shot had a loose handle but was dominant athletically and able to outmatch people physically. Played multiple positions being a matchup nightmare and a defensive presence. Same player.

Everybody is acting like the Celtics season is basically over now that Hayward is likely done. While I agree that losing Hayward is devestating and significantly reduces their margin for error, I also think there is enough talent on this roster to still end up with a 2-4 seed in the east. I have no doubts that Stevens will get the most out of this team, and if a player like brown can make a significant leap, they could still be dangerous.

 They’re still a good team without Hayward, but it was going to take every  key player they have playing great to make the finals. The injury is disheartening because it makes making the finals quite a bit harder.

 I’m going to get some negs..but I think Hayward is over hyped. This gives Brown a chance to come out of his shell. This team is still good enough to compete for a spot in the ECF.

 I agree actually and its going to show when Utah keeps winning. Brown has more upside longterm but its not like those two cant co-exist. Brown would have continued to develop with or without Gordon.

Jaylen as a top 3 pick going into his 2nd season should reasonably be expected to be contributing as a starter but he was impressive the other night and I don’t think Ainge would have given up Crowder if he didn’t think Jaylen in particular would step up.

As regards last year’s draft, I thought the Celtics would likely have taken Bender if they had passed on Jaylen Brown given their then backcourt depth, I’d have been surprised if they had taken Dunn.
