A lot of Celtics fans are hating on this pick. He was the guy I wanted all along, and I love the pick. I posted weeks ago he was the guy I wanted. He has a high ceiling and low basement. He Has a NBA body frame, athleticism and defensive capabilities. I don’t know what he is going to be, but the potential is there be a Iggy, Derozan and Jimmy Butler type of talent. I was shocked Danny Ainge didn’t go with a proven product, but actually went with potential instead.

He has great athleticism and defensive TOOLS, but has he really shown to be a good defensive player? I feel like everyone just assumes a good athlete is a good defender. Obviously the potential is there but IMO he has not shown it.

Way more offensive skills. He can easily be the best player in this draft. He will benefit greatly by NBA Spacing. He will be a nightmare in the open court too. As long as he does not try to do too much early he will be fine. Rather have him than Dunn. Be serious. Celtics been needed an athletic wing. Gonna be funny when people see the damage he does in pick n role. Lol hate on.

He does have the potential to be better than Crowder in about 2 years. He has a ways to go. I like Jaylen Brown, I think he fits in nice off the bench. Give the guy some time to develop. If he proves to be really good Crowder could be in a trade next offseason.

If the Celtics miss on Free Agents, I think they are just still rebuilding until they can really compete for a championship. Gotta look at the future if you can’t get a deal on a superstar. All the picks at 3 would have been looking at the future anyway.

He was a no brainer at 3, consider his age, his tools, current skills level, personality, best value overall at 3…

How did this comment of Jaylen Brown a no brainer at no3 get +10 ?

How many users on here actually had him going no3 on their mocks ?

Reminds me of previous drafts where someone gets drafted higher than we all think and a few users change their mind and jump on the bandwagon.

Terrence Ross, Dion Waiters and even Anthony Bennett got a few fan boys after they were drafted.

I am not high on Jaylen Brown, I think Dunn or Jamal Murray will be better pros….

Buddy Hield and Jamal Murray will both turn out to be better players when it’s all said and done. Bad pick for the Celtics.

Hate on the pick all you want. Cavsfan were you in that group saying same about Marcus Smarts, and he’ll be the best in that class?

For_Never_Ever. I was pretty neutral about Marcus Smart in his draft class. There weren’t many options for the Celtics, it was a draft thin on depth. I think he’s a fine player. With him on the roster, the Jaylen Brown pick is even more redundant. Should’ve gone bpa, Murray and Hield have higher upside imo.

Browns game reminds me too much of former ROY Tyreke Evans. I hope he proves me wrong, he has the physical tools. I don’t think his athleticism will make up for his overall lack of shooting.

Brown and Tyrekes games are in no way similar. Yes both are average jumpshooters, but Tyreke is a ball dominating SG. In no way is that Brown, who has the shakey jumpshot of Tyreke but also has a loose handle(something in which Tyreke do not have).

The pick was Danny’s call he’s going to have to live with it. Celtics gathered all these picks and cleared cap space to be able to make a move. Instead Ainge decided to draft 6 players. Crazy! We already have Hunter, Rozier, and Mickey who don’t get minutes. All were just drafted last year. I hope Ainge has a good plan for free agency my fear is we end up paying too much for mediocure free agents.

This was the highest pick the Celtics have had in a while, Brown has to turn out to be a stud. IMO he’s a high risk bust player . He doesn’t do anything great but has great size and is really athletic. What’s going to be his role this year on the Celtics? Brown didn’t have a great season last year at Cal is he ready to contribute to this playoff team? In his only college season he didn’t shoot the ball well and averaged 3.1 TO’s per game.

I’ll be rooting hard for Brown but unfortunately being the 3rd pick in the draft comes with high expectations

He won’t have much of a role yet. The starters are set already.

      IT, Bradley, Crowder, Jerebko, Amir

Second unit. Rozier, Smart, JB, K/O,

Smart and Rozier will mainly handle the ball in the second unit. JBrown will have time to develop. Basically be a slasher next year and defend.

I was shocked they went with him and actually look like they are keeping the pick. However, I’ve always said he has as much potential as anyone in this draft. It’s kind of a swing for the fences pick imo. If the Celtics can’t acquire a star through trade or free agency they might as well take the player they feel has the best chance to develop into one. The guy does have elite two way potential. It’s raw potential at this point though and he may take awhile to develop. Or he could end up being a bust altogether. But really could you say anything different about bender or chriss. And Murray, hield or Dunn wouldn’t have made sense considering the young talent they already have in the backcourt. The more I think about it the more the pick does make sense.

& someone who can consistently score in the post……….

This was a Weak Draft & Brown was in that 5 to 10 pick range

So it’s not a Crazy stretch to pick Brown at #3 — However,

The Celtics were in a Unique position b/c they are a 50 win team picking at #3

Jaylen Brown does Nothing for the Celtics next year or probably the year after either

He’s just too Raw…. It’s not the end of the World but it is Def a missed Opportunity for Aigne

B/c Both Minnesota & Phila were Hot for Kris Dunn & Aigne should have been able to play them against each other to get Something of Value to improve the C’s in One of those areas….

i find it funny how everyone has made up their mind on guy from 1 college season. All reports are that jaylen brown shot really well in his workouts for different teams. Who’s to say he cant quickly become a good shooter? Kawhi leonard shot 21% from three after his freshman season. Jason richardson shot the same 29% from three that brown did his freshman season. Guys can get better after their freshman season.

As for the supposed attitude problems with him being arrogant and too smart for his own good, those seem like traits very familiar to kobe. He was considered arrogant and didnt mesh with teammates his early years and had the high sat scores and spoke 3 languages and all that jazz, pretty sure those characteristics didnt hinder his basketball career.

Bump – how did Kobyz get +11 for his Jaylen Brown comment ?

" He was a no brainer at 3, consider his age, his tools, current skills level, personality, best value overall at 3… "

    ————————

I’ve said it before but no way should Jaylen Brown have gone no3 overall.  Averaging 11ppg on 42% and 27% shooting.

Jamal Murray just put up 46 points yday and is averaging just under 20ppg on the season.

Although I would have loved to have Murray over Brown, its not all about stats and Brown isn’t in a great situation to put up his numbers efficiently. Brown is primarily a slasher and on a team like the Celtics, they have enough guys who demand the ball and can create for themselves. As the less talented player, Brown usually gets left waiting around on the perimeter playing the role of a shooter which isn’t his strength. If Brown was to be on a team where they needed someone who could put the ball on the floor and get to the rim he could easily be putting up similar stats to last year or even better (15-18 ppg, 5-7 rpg 45/35). But what Brown does bring to the Celtics is his defense and that is incredibly valuable to them and I’m not sure if I’d want a below average defender like Murray over Brown (who is still only 22 and years away from his prime).

Youngest Celtics ever to score 30 in a playoff game. Yea he sucks lol. He was raw. You won’t see his full potential till like age 25-26. If he played on a crappy team he’d put up huge numbers.
