I know he has basically been a punch-line over the past few years and the casual fan probably knows him better for being on shaqtin-a-fool than any positive contributions he has made on the court. However, I kind of think he is in the perfect situation in golden state. All he really needs to do is be able to provide rim protection and catch and finish around the basket. There are low expectations and he has the ability to bring something that they do not currently have on the roster. It’s not like anyone has ever doubted  his talent. I think there is a pretty good chance he not only makes the team but also plays a pretty major role and resurrects his career this season.

I agree, I’m not too happy that Golden State picked him up. If you’ve watched basketball at all it shouldn’t be hard to imagine Steph, KD, and Klay doing their thing toying with guys on the fast break then hitting Javale for an easy slam because everyone’s worried about them shooting 3s. This is the perfect situation for him; their defense flies around the court which allows him to go for those weak side blocks and he’ll have more space to work with on offense than he’s ever had.

McGee can play the Birdman role. He can rebound, catch lobs and play physical. Keep it simple for him and he can be an effective option.

I noticed the tv networks didnt make fun of him as much after that interview on TNT where he called out Shaq for bullying and cooning.

I’ll try to exhibit some cultural sensativity here, but Javale had a point and people shouldnt be afraid to talk about what message ESPN and TNT are really sending with segments like Shaqtin a Fool and First Take.

Incidently, Shaqtin and First take both rate extremely highly.  But you dont need to be an expert in race relations to know that these networks are profiting by making a mockery of black stererotypes during these segments. Disney (ESPN) and Turner have a very dubious history with how people of color are portrayed and I’m surprised more players arent upset by the networks obvious cooning segments. Its like nothing has changed.

Javale does dumb, funny things on the court. From Non-basketball footage I’ve seen, hes actually witty, intellent and a seemingly fun guy. Shaqtin a fool goes to far though.

Stuart Scott and J.A. Adande are perfect examples of on-air professionals who never felt the need to talk down to their race and just be themselves.

Apologies to anyone who is offended by the subject matter, but I’m a million miles away and even I can see when these networks are using high profile African Americans to act out racist stereotypes to pull ratings.

Im just glad Javale said something even if it made for awkward television and possibly affected him professionally.

Excellent signing.  I believe he has been underrated for a while now just because of the odd brain snap he has.  He won’t play a prominent enough role to be a distraction.

He is in a perfect situation and if he grabs a title then good luck to him.

I still have this vision of him trying to make a big play in a key play off game though. He has the ball in his hand and tries to shot a 3 or is considering taking it up court and you’ve got KD, Klay, Steph Curry MVP and Draymond all screaming “Give Me the ball now”.

Lol I’d love for that to happen but no chance he’s in near the end of a close game

My thoughts exactly Sub Zero, I’d guess GSW would go with Varejao as a defensive anchor down the stretch over Zara and McGee.

If they play a team like OKC or LAC they’ll probably have a big man out there, but if they’re playing a team like Portland or Houston I’d imagine they’d run the Steph-Klay-Iggy-Durant-Draymond lineup

With him being out of everyday NBA life for a year plus you kind of forget just how big he is, and how mobile as well. JaVale is and was never the guy many thought he would pan out to be, but he’s an awesome guy to come in and play 15 minutes a game. He’ll absolutley protect the rim and dunk everything 5 feet away from the rim.
