Jason Thompson vs. Anthony Randolph Who is better?
randolph tore up the summer league i think he should have been grabbed earlier to tell you the truth
hes poteinal is crazzy
but jason was soild in the summer leauge and is soild in the nba
he fits into the kings system hes a big that can bang in the paint and knock it down from mid range
and can hit the 3 believe it or not
plus handel it
he use to b a point gaurd when he was younger
i wanted the kings to get bayless but he was too rite before
y? did the pacers let him go who knows
he has more potential then rush
and now this year there getting another swingman from the draft{going by mock}
i bet there looking back like damm we messed up bayless was mvp of the summer leauge in future all star

we will never b sure if randolph will reach his potenial or not for now

Thompson is "what you see is what you get", which is a solid player who will get you productive min. at the center position. He won't wow you but he will get the job done. Randolph was the more sexy pick because of his intangibles. The Kings did good in getting a guy they could depend on night in night out. Randolph may turn into a good player but I don't think the Kings will regret their pick.
I like thompson better. He does everything real good. Randolph is way too skinny to be effective right now. If you are as skinny as he is you have to have a perimeter game (think Kevin martin & Kevin durant)..martin didnt have much of a perimeter game coming out but he had to develop 1 to be able to keep up in the nba. Durant had a perimeter game but had to add on because he wouldnt be able 2 score in the post in the nba. so randolph has to become a better shooter and take people of the dribble if he wants to be a nice player in the league.

i think its ealry to say who's better. it's only their rookie season. i think Thompson is currently better because he is viewed as a more NBA ready player than Randolph, due to his more polish skill set and a more NBA ready body. However, Randolph is viewed as more of a prospect, and his skill set and body are not yet up to NBA standard. But Randolph i think would end up as a better player due to his ability to play 3, 4 and 5 and is more athletic. Thompson i think would be a solid role player but not a star. i think Randolph could potentially be like Lamar Odom and Thompson could be potentially be like Haslem with a better inside game.
I believe Ant is the better player. Jason is decent but I think his ceiling isn't that high. I don't know how far he can get. Now, Randolph is in a tough situation in Golden State. Don Nelson hates him, WITH A PASSION... Chris Mullin and Nelson are battling about putting Randolph on the court. Nelson told Randolph to get his agent to look for a possible trade. That's crazy!!! So I don't think this would be a good argument since Randolph is hated by his coach and not getting minutes. And if anyone says its because Randolph doesn't play D, slap yourself. Don Nelson isn't a defensive minded coach for one and two Randolph is a rookie, he will make mistakes.....
i wonder, or is he some creepy guy who just shows up and forbids the players from playing d. I dont understand one bit what there doing up there, i really dont. If your gonna be as awful as they are, you might as well give the kid a chance, he put up 40 in a summer league game. Not saying thats any indicator of success, but it shows that he is capable of doing something. Thompson seems solid, good pick for them. I dunno how much better he will get, but i also don't know how many rookie centers come in and never get better. Randolph is in the worst situation right now, so its way too early to judge, he needs to get out of there.
Thompson seems to be better right now,but the key phrase is right now. Thompson is the better post player but Randolph's overall skill in very good very similar to Odom.But if i had to have a player with the same draft pick as Sac town I would have picked JT becasue he's more of a finished product that you can rely on. And the fact he can play the 5 doesn't hurt either. Randolph should be getting more run, Don't know what Don Nelson has against guys taller than 6'8 but,he really is biased towards perimeter players you can't win or defend with 4 guards.Time for him to let Randolph develop whats the good in picking forwards and not giving them thw opportunity to shine of thats the case trade the pick. It's not like G.S. is going to the Finals.
Anthony Randolph is nothing like Josh Smith. Josh Smith is a big strong explosive leaper. Randolph is athletic but not known for his hops.
Randolph will be the better pro. Once upon a time Okafor was more productive than Howard too. Things change. Does anybody remember the Lakers-Warriors game where Randolph threw up a strong double-double and completely dominated Odom? He has a skill set similar to Odom but he actually has something to prove. This will be his breakout year. Nellie has smartened up and wont flex his power over the sophmore Randolph. All-star in 3 years whereas Thompson will probably just be a solid role player his entire career.

randolph is no garnett. he's more like lamar odom. randolph has more upside but thompson is going to be solid in this league. what's not to like? a big man with an nba body, can bang down low, can take a step back for a 3pointer, and he handles well for a big. he's a poor man's version of c-webb.
Anthony Randolph, what can i say about this guy. All he needs is a little more experience and playing time. I see a Lamar Odom in him due to his versatility, he can play 3 spots on the floor. In 3 years this guy will be a hard player to stop. Thompson is good but he won't be better than Anthony Randolph.

There is a huge difference between the two, one gives you results, while the other gives you promise, and last I checked its results that win you the game. It seems to me like no one here has ever watched Thompson play, at least not in the last year. Not only did he average over 11 ppg and 7.4 rpg as a rookie, but his numbers increased as the season progressed, in the games before the all-star break he was averaging 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, after the break he averaged 12.4 ppg and 8.6 rpg. Randolph shows a lot of promise but there is not a single factor that makes him any more "promising" than almost any other rookie last season; there is no way to measure how much promise a player has so there is no way that anyone can say for certain that Jason Thompson will not become the next great forward. It is absurd to say that a player is better than another player just because he COULD become better than him, so until Randolph starts actually playing better than Thompson, he will, at least in my book, still come in second.

for most of the season i would say Thomson, but for the last 2 months id give it to AR
cause the last month of the season Randolph averaged 14.5 11 1 steal and 2 blocks
the month before that he but up 11 and 11
while thomsons been putting up 11 and 8
so far randolph doesnt look like the all tar this year that so many of you have predicted..like i said before his jumper still needs work and his handles isnt sf level yet..yeah he has potenial but some of ya'll really held summer leauge a lil too high. i said preseason and regular season it was gonna be harder for him to do what he did in the summer leauge since the talent level is now alot better
During Draft day all of the Sacramento Kings fans were shocked that the kings had picked Jason Thompson over Anthony Randolph. Over the last three months Thompson has not played like a rookie at all(except for rookie foul trouble). He has impressed even the coaching staff so he was placed on tehh starting lineup. Thompson has not been afraid to drive in to Yao Ming or dunk on Garnett. He is averaging great stats for a rookie(10.5ppg and 6.9rpg) and is under-rated. On the other hand, Anthony Randolph has done really nothing with the Warriors. Even Don Nelson has benched him and played Rob Kurz instead of Randolph because he is to skinny(6'11 210 lbs.) Even though he has gotten some boards and points erratically(shot is in the 20% range), people are questioning whether he was over-rated in College. Were the Kings right on picking Thompson, or should they have picked Randolph?
