It seems only Fitting that Jason Kidd and Grant Hill the Co-Rookie of the Year..Will be Retiring in the same year..I think Kidd would make a great coach 1 day...
I was very happy to see Jason Kidd get his title a couple years ago. 1 of the best PG's to ever play the game. He resurrected the NJ Nets who were a pitiful franchise to 2 time Eastern Conference Champions. Those years he spent in NJ I believe should of netted him an MVP trophy. He was triple Double threat every time he stepped on the court in those years. Great player and leader probably will end up as a coach
greatest assist man i ever saw play. glad too see he won a ring
i guarentee you've seen better.
My all-time favorite point guard. He took a laughing stock New Jersey Nets and turned them into title contenders overnight. Happy he got to get a ring before he ended it all.
Completely agree. In my honest opinion he should have won the MVP that year in New Jersey as well. Still happy he got a ring to end his great career
A bittersweet day. Jason Kidd is my favorite point guard of all time, and one of the last of a dying breed(true pg/pass-first pg).
I'm going to make a shrine of his career, will post it when I'm done in a few days.
greatest leader of all time!!!
Not only my all time favorite point guard, but on of the top-10 of all times too.. Great career, and one of the greatest basketball IQs ever.
One of the most exciting players ever. Loved when he first broke into the league and he would grab a rebound and then just turn and push by himself throwing some highlight pass. In the discussion for top 5 pg of all time. Magic, Oscar, and Stockton are probably all ahead of him. I would personally put Payton ahead of him although that's debatable. Isiah Thomas and Chris Paul are also both in the discussion for being ahead of Kidd depending on preference.
No way Chris Paul is ahead of Kidd. Not only achievement-wise.. As a kid, those were the guys I would watch and always be astonished, Kidd, Penny, Kemp, Shaq, Hakeem, KG.. CP3 is an elite point guard, maybe in discussion for top-10 when it's all said and done for him, but not as great as Kidd.
Bittersweet moment for me.... But I'm glad he decided to retire... My favorite point guard of all-time! Transforming a god-awful Nets into Eastern Champs in one season was probably the greatest achievement he ever made.. not to mention him being a triple double machine... 1 Championship ring later (with the Mavs in 2011) and you can say his career is more than complete... Up next, HALL OF FAME!
Everyone has their own opinions about things..But i would rank Kidd behind only Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas as the best pgs in my Lifetime....
How do you feel about Stockton?
What made Kidd great was his overall effect on the game. Even though he put up some great statistical numbers he often guarded the opponents best Guard as well. He was an outstanding defender and rebounder. He was the engine of those NETS teams igniting the break with his rebounding. Those were some fun NETS teams with Kidd , Martin and Jefferson.
2nd All Time in Assists
2nd All Time in Steals
3rd All time in 3 pointers
3rd All Time in Triple Doubles only Magic and O have more (107)
Next stop: The Hall Of Fame!
As regards PG's I'd certainly have J-Kidd in my top 5. I must admit I never saw Oscar Robertson play but his body of work and achievements as a scoring PG would have to put him in my top 3, along with John Stockton whose assists record is never likely to be beaten and who had amazing longevity.
Plus of course Magic the most gifted ever PG IMO and who could well set career figures that even John Stockton would never have reached if he had not had health issues. When you consider that Magic was only 32 when he effectively retired and that Kidd won a title at 38 and the Lakers signed Nash at 38 years old too, it shows what Magic could have added to his amazing career. Magic would have been 37 when the Lakers signed Kobe and Shaq so it is not hard to imagine him pulling the strings for them past the millenium. Sure he may have lost speed put with his basketball IQ and length he'd have been able to control the temp and would have had a lightning fast Kobe alongside him and Coach Jackson would have run the triangle offence all through Magic.

Niiiiiice call, my man lol
From what i've heard, Kidd had been in discussion with the Nets about the head coaching job, every since PJ was let go......
I Just read that Jason Kidd will Kick Starting his Coaching career early....He will be coaching the Nets Summer League Team....
