JASON KIDD TO KNICKS!
According to Marc Stein, Jason Kidd has decided to leave the Mavs to join the New York Knicks.
I guess he never agreed to that 3 year $9 million deal with Dallas.
Where does Dallas go for a PG now?
yep, just read that....Dallas thought they were going to get it done....but he never signed. Devin Harris maybe? Everyone else is going to their old teams.
didnt devin harris just get traded to the atlanta hawks for marvin williams?
Thats not a big up grade over what they have. He is clearly a shell of his self now at 11pts and 6 ast and he's only getting older, slower
Is Jeremy Lin still on the board for the Mavericks to get?
I'd like them to take him as a cornerstone of their future when Dirk retires. He's a nice guy to build around.
Did Kidd really end up aceraging 11 pts? He may be a shell, but in a fast pace offense that needs a legit leader to pull the shackles on Melo and Amare. Kid will also help get everybody into their sweet spots to score and be a terrific influence on some of the younger guys lacking direction i.e. Shumpert,Douglas,Walker,Harrellson, and Jordan.
Kidd only averaged 6 points and 5 assists last season
Jason Kidd at $3 million a year is not bad. The Knicks always have to do something even if it is counterproductive. But, I like this move though. This is more like Plan C or D (with Nash and Jeremy Lin being the top options) but they have a guy who can run the offense and make Carmelo and Amare look good.
I actually like Tony Douglas as a scoring point guard. His not a passer but that is what they have Kidd for.
The Knicks can still go after some free agents out there. Nick Young would be a good bench guy. Or Kirk Hinrich as a backup point guard.
I wonder if Ray Allen could possibly go to the Knicks. That would make some sense. Kidd, Ray Allen, and Shumpert would be ok at guard with Melo, Amare, and Tyson Chandler up front.
I also thought the Knicks were going after OJ Mayo. Getting Jason Kidd at only $3 million a year leaves some money left over for other free agent pickups.
The Knicks aren't going to catch the Heat, but the rest of the East should be wide open, with the Celtics looking promising but they are pretty old at the top with the end of their rotation basically being rookies and second year guys.
Ramon Sessions in Dallas?
He averaged 11ppg five years ago...
He has shot his lowest two percentages the last two years. If they don't match the Lin offer and start him and Shumpert at the guards that doesn't really spread the floor too well for Melo and Amare. He can definitely help the younger players develop but he is not going to pull off any miralces and make the Knicks a title contender at age 39.
So the Knicks have Bibby, Kidd, and Davis for pg....aren't all these guys drawing social security already?
No need for Mavs fans to fret because DJ Augustinis still available! He cans be yours for the cheap of a 2013 first rounder seeing as how we seem to be collecting them nowadays. Act fast or he may be gone too!
oops ment 6 and 6
I like this move for the Knicks and players like Tyson and Amare. Kidd going to be able to hold it down for now.
I like this move if Lin returns. He can be a perfect mentor and a teacher to Jeremy and for sure will help him develop into a very nice player. I'm not sure about him still starting but as we can hear that they will match any offer to Lin so as a Knicks fan I'm happy with that move.
I sincerely don't think this deal is for Kidd to start, moreso for him to be the best backup(to Lin) in the game keeping the p&R game open for when Lin goes to the floor. Won't hurt that he will be able to give Lin all the pointers in the world and may even be able to help him develop into one fo the better true pg's in the game similar to what he did with Nash early on.
The Knicks will utilize Kidd like the Nuggets utilize Miller. He will be a back up PG who brings veteran leadership and can teach a team to play a better game. Great pick-up for the Knicks, best of luck to J. Kidd.
Except Andre Miller is about 5 times as efficent as Jason Kidd at this point in their careers. Miller is 3 years younger scored 10 points a game compared to Kidds 6 while shooting 7% better from the field. There stats were otherwise the same playing the same amount of minutes. Kidd is no doubt a great mentor but as far as on the court performance Miller is much more valuable. Miller was the Nuggets second best scoring option at the end of games behind Ty Lawson. Kidd has improved his jumpshot but 36% from the field and 35% from 3 aren't exactly setting the world on fire. I would much rather have Andre at this point in their careers.
My god. They still have him? Baron should retire and I expect him too, but if the Knicks sign Kidd...there is absolutely no need to keep Bibby around.
I heard The Mavs are going to go after Ramon Sessions. It's pretty sad for them at this point. At least they have their ring to keep them warm. They'll have to wait for next season to make a splash since all the big names are gone and they look like they'll be even worse next season.
If they do not bring Lin back should they try and bring Raymond Felton back?
Is Marcus Camby interested in coming back to the Knicks?
Kidd would not be the best backup in the game. You have to stop looking at Kidd as a 20 something year old and look at him as how he is today. He will be a average back up not the best back up in the NBA. He will be a year older next season and yet another step slower as far as his game and physically
Mavs fans will actually be pleasantly surprised by Sessions. When he isn't asked to play the same role as Derek Fisher and can get out on the fast break and run plenty of p&R, the guy is an absolute stud. The kid looked like he had a good future in LA until Mike Brown made him slow down and stop making easy plays for teammates. The moment MB made him relegate into a spot up shooter, the positives he brought to the team were negated. The dude is honestly a better offensive player than Kyle Lowry while bringing a similar all-around ability. After all, he did get a triple double in his rookie year and then also drop a 22 assist game.
Sessions a stud really I hope your joking.
Kidd wil help a lot they need to resign Lin too.
Imagine if Lin learns from Kidd and Walt Clyde Frazier u got 2 of the top 10 PG's ever.
Sessions is not a stud at all, he got completely destroyed by Westbrook in the WC semi's... it was like he was completely useless
i think this year was tuition fees for Sessions and he will be improve next season.
It was also his first time playing in the playoffs. Anyone who has ever actually watched Sessions play while being allowed to play his game not that of derek Fisher can tell you the kid is good. You're talking about him going against one of the top 5 pg's in the game and an MVP candidate. That's a ridiculous argument. If you took the ball out of RONDO'S hands and asked him to slowly bring the ball up court throw it down to a big guy and go stand in a corner waiting for a 3 then you would see garbage as well. Mike Brown asked Sessions to play to his weaknesses instead of his strengths. Of course he looked like pure crap. I'm here to tell you though as I've watched Sesh since he was in college that the kid is a baller and IMO a better player than Jeremy Lin. I couldn't imagine watching Sessions playing for Mike D'Antoni in a run and gun offense. It would be simply ridiculous. I will say no more but when Sessions gets his chance to start and puts up better numbers than Lin and any other F/A pg not named Dragic or Nash I will bring this thread back up and laugh to no end. Sesh has game and it's not even funny.
Kidd is going to back up Lin. Outside of Knicks getting Nash this is a good deal. You guys don't think Knicks will match Lin deal. Barring Injuries Knicks are a top 2 or top 3 team in the East.
Knicks don't need Jason Kidd, they need someone Jeremy Lin can learn from!
dude, you basically contradicted yourself in the same line
If I'm Jeremy Lin, I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to learn from one of the all-time great PGs in Jason Kidd. But that's just me.
They need to at least sign Delonte. Use this as an opportunity to play their young players
Kidd going to the Knicks was a mistake on the Knicks part.
Wow, didn't see that coming from J-Kidd, nice addition, but he isn't much more than a very good backup at this point, or at the most 25 minutes per game, but still a nice pickup for a team that could potentially lose Lin as well. Kidd isn't nearly what he used to be, but he's still a good shooter, a good distributer, and still boards well for a point guard.
Kidd is a big upgrade over Bibby and a huge upgrade over what Tony Douglas did last year. Sure Kidd can't play starter minutes and he can't score. But he still rebounds like a mutherfkr out of the PG spot, he gets you steals and he can pass. His shooting percentage is bad but they are almost all threes now. 36% three point shooting is fine. He can guard big guards okay which means you can play him with Lin at crunch time if Fields isn't resigned (I'm still hoping). $3 million is chump change for an actual baller. Good signing by the Knicks!
Why don't they trade for Calderon(Raps just got Lowry) and try to use their cap space next offseason. He can set up Carter & Marion, and run pick & pops w/ Dirk like he used to w/ Bosh.
& Sessions is nice he's a beast running pick & rolls and taking what the defense gives him from the FT line area...that would be a good pickup for them.
Knicks fans will not be excited when Kidd is bricking wide open 3's, passing up wide open layups, and getting beat defensively by anybody with a pulse.
If y'all can look past that then you're right, this is a decent pickup.
When is it ever a bad Idea to have one of the greatest PG of all time in your locker room? And New York could they selfless inluence of a JKidd. He wasn't brought to New York to be the PG of the future he was brought to provide some stability and again... how can you ever go wrong with Jason Kidd in your backcourt? Hopefully the Knicks will take get a young PG in the next year or so and he could do a tour of duty behind the old head and learn a few things..
Exactly Justa, Kidd is worth it for the locker room presence alone. As for what he brings on the court, the main thing is that he is a huge upgrade over Bibby and Toney Douglas. Hopefully Shumpert will continue to improve, but Kidd is still probably better than Shumpert for one more year. And finally the mentoring piece for JLin is also huge. Since I think the Knicks need JLin to make noise in the playoffs (actually they need JLin to make the playoffs at all, the Knicks wouldn't have made it last year without the wins they got during Linsanity), the Knicks need to focus on the training of JLin to make him as good as he can be.
