akhan786ParticipantJason Kidd made surprising headlines with his decision to join the New York Knicks as a free agent.
Now he’s making surprising headlines for the wrong things off the court.
The 10-time All-Star point guard, who signed his 3-year, $9.5 million contract with the Knicks on Thursday, was arrested early Sunday morning for alleged drunken driving, according to Southhampton Town police.
Kidd, 39, was arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge and released on his own.
Police said Kidd’s 2010 Cadillac Escalade struck a telephone pole and went into the woods near the intersection of Cobb road and Little Cobb Road in Water Mill. Kidd’s house in the Hamptons was nearby. Kidd was the lone passenger in the accident, which reportedly took place around 2 a.m.
Kidd was transported to the Southhampton Hospital to attend to minor injuries before dealing with the police.
"We await further discovery from the district attorney’s office," Sag Harbor attorney Eddie Burke Jr. said.
Kidd has faced trouble with the law before. He was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty for a domestic violence charge in January of 2001.

Wow…hasn’t even been five days since he signed his contract.

JoeWolf1Bad timing. He got in trouble for domestic violence in the 90’s, I thought he had put his law breaking days behind him. I never get why guys who are so rich don’t just pay for a driver to get them home safe from bars and clubs.

LazarusMunozParticipantJKidd really dosent know how to party…An NBA player of his status driving alone at 2am? He should have some hot stripper named Tami in the passenger seat, should be bumping some 2 Chainz or Yellawolf, and some OG Kush in the glove compartment
If he ever played for Portland when they had Zach Randolph and Darius Miles, this would be how he would be rolling now… Maybe even show the officer his trading card since he dosent have a license

mowestenParticipantDude, you’ve been in the NBA for 20 years and made, like, $100 million … if you’re going to drive why would you be driving a 2010 Escalade.
Nothing against an Escalade, but if I had that kind of jack, I’d be driving a Bentley, a Ferrari, a Buggatti and a Koenigsegg. All in the same day.

lisergxParticipantI expected this from a young player, or a rookie, not a 39 year old veteran shaking my head!

TallmanNYCParticipantYou drive an Escalade so that if you hit a telephone poll or another car you walk away with a scratch. Thank God he wasn’t in a sports car that would have been wrapped around that pole.
If I were that rich though, I would have a full time driver. Sure it will cost you maybe $100K a year but the amount of trouble it would save you each year if you want to party would make it totally worth it. Just the ability to tell the girls at 4 a.m., sorry you have to leave now my driver will take you home now would be totally worth it as well. And if you want to drop another $50k or so, that driver can be licensed to carry and be a trained body guard. Also totally worth it since these famous guys are targets for disreputable sorts.
JKidd just lost the cost of a driver for his entire career in endorsements.
