McDunkinAfter Virginia’s 76-52 season-opening victory on Friday night over William & Mary, UVa coach Tony Bennett announced that James Johnson, one of his six scholarship freshmen, would be redshirting this season.
On Saturday, Johnson’s father told The Daily Progress that he had “mixed emotions” about the development.
“I honestly think he could have helped this year in a big way, especially with his rebounding and being aggressive — running the floor and getting put-backs,” said Ted Johnson, during a phone interview from his home in Wildomar, Calif. “I mean, I still think when he crashes the boards on offense, you would have seen some spectacular put-back dunks.”
