Russell0WestbrookParticipantAm I the only person that thinks Jabari Parker while being a great freshman this year is not an elite draft prospect? When I see him I see a player that has learned o play the ge the right way at a young age. While he is up there with the elite prospects now I don’t see him improving that much he’s as close to a finished product in the lottery. Please clue me in on what I’m missing and what improvements he will make going forward

I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantI honestly don’t think he’s anywhere near a finished product. Firstly, he can shed weight which will help him a lot. He played at about 240 because Duke needed him to play big, but his normal playing weight is like 225-230. That will help his quickness and stamina. He can improve his ball handling, shot (can get more arc on his jumper, making it more effective), his post game, and just general bball IQ. He might not have as high of a ceiling due to athletic limitations, although he’s more athletic than given credit for, but I think his potential is in par with Wiggins, Randle, etc.

Moon RiverParticipantI think he is a can’t miss pro. I see more Paul Pierce in him them Melo and perhaps even a Luol Deng, but time will tell. I think he is solid all around player, with good athletic ability and an above average basketball IQ. The knock on him is he is not an elite athlete and his ceiling is not as high as others (Wiggins/Exum/Embiid). But whoever takes him will get a very productive player in the league for a very long time. He is also a good/smart guy, so no concerns there. Over time he will get more and more comfortable and learn the little tricks of the trade so to speak and that is where he will improve the most, which will be with the efficiency that he produces.
I am a Bucks fan and would not be disappointed at all if they ended up with him.

Ghost01ParticipantSo in conclusion, because he’s already good, you don’t think he can get better?
athleticism doesn’t equate to potential the way some think. All players can improve their games. Parker is 19… He has the same chance to improve as wiggins, randle, or Embiid. As the above poster noted, he isn’t even close to a finished product and has so many aspects of his game he can improve. He does have a polished scoring game for his age but that’s really it.

uabasketballParticipantI like the Paul Pierce comparison mentioned above. I think the thing that people don’t realize with Jabari is that Duke didn’t use him nearly to his full potential as an individual player. Meaning that Coach K kept him within their system and he was forced to playing either the 4/5 position. Im not saying I watched EVERY duke game but I catch a few and I was very impressed how with Jabari’s IQ and willingness to stay within their system. For example, I saw multiple times where he would get the defensive board and immediately go coast to coast for a dunk looking a like a man among boys. However rather than playing like an individual and doing this more often he would dump the ball off to the likes of Quinn Cook or whoever else was playing their point. Bottom line is this is at Duke, IMO, I believe Jabari’s natural skill set was highly underused and all these people who are questioning his transition to the League will have their questions answered next year (assuming he leaves, which he should) when he is able to showcase his full abilities.

vulture711ParticipantSeems pretty elite to me – strong body, offensive variety. I’ll take him ……or Wiggins, or Embiid, or Randle, or Exum because we are so bad – any of these guys is a significant upgrade over what we have.
Parker has got the SKILLS to PAY THE BILLS

Russell0WestbrookParticipantI’m not knocking his skills I’m saying he isn’t going to get too much better at anything he does well right now because he has had good coaching for a long time and he has obviously paid attention. I got negged for stating facts how can he become a star in the nba when he is leaving duke as almost the same as when he got there

jwall1ParticipantHow do you know he is not going to get too much better? My god he has not played 1 NBA game… Its not like any of these top prospects have shown significant improvement throughout the season, so with your theory none of them can become stars because of that. You got negged because your post displayed absolutely no logic and no facts to back it up.

TarHeelRavenParticipantThe fact that Duke didn’t have any low post guys besides Amille Jefferson didn’t help Jabari because he had to play in the post and that’s obviously not his natural position because he was undersized and got beat up guarding bigger and heavier guy. He’s a 3 and I think he’ll have a very good NBA career. I see Paul Pierce, solid athlete but uses skill more than athletic ability to get the job done.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHe’s not a PURE SHOOTER, a pure athlete, or a pure low post guy.
Is he just a really good all around guy? If so, did he have any triple doubles? Maybe they used him wrong all year. A front line of Plumlee, Amile Jefferson, and Jabari, with Rodney Hood off the bench (with some time at the 2). Play Jabari at some power point some of the time. How do you mess that up?

WälseParticipantGood player, but I don’t think his potential is anywhere near that of Wiggins & Embiid. Any team that takes him before those two is making a mistake imo (assuming Embiid’s health is not an issue). That said, he’s a very safe pick, and will be a solid player for many years.

I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantThe knock on his potential is that he isn’t an athletic freak of nature, therefore he might struggle at his position. I don’t agree with that logic. Athleticism makes the game easier for those who have it because they’re playing at a different speed, above the rim where most players can’t reach, and they can generally out-physical opponents. Jabari’s playing style doesn’t require any of that because his bball IQ and overall polish make the game easier for him.

Russell0WestbrookParticipantMy point isn’t his potential is based not being an elite athlete it’s most of the things he is good at are maxed out. People like players and think if you don’t say something god you’re hating his game revolves around skill and craftiness so that’s why I feel he is close to maxed out but that’s just my opinion we can look back and say who is right or wrong

I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantBut you can always improve your skill level. Like I stated above, his jumper can be A LOT deadlier with added arc. He can improve his conditioning, his ball handling. He is crafty and at 19 he won’t have the same level of craftiness at say 26. That will evolve once he gains more experience and learns more about the game. I just don’t believe a 19 year old kid can possibly be "a finished product" just because an Andrew Wiggins has more to work on. Like you said tho, we’ll see..
