This is a shocker…One of the TOP incoming freshman…JABARI BROWN…has just decided to leave the Oregon Ducks!!!

He led the team in scoring this summer in Italy…and…was averaging 6 points a game while starting this season.

This is a HUGE blow for Oregon…interested to see what Mikey V thinks….def can’t be happy!!!

Talk about a quitter… he lasted all of two games. He couldnt wait it out a little longer. I would not want someone in my program who quits on me after two games. C’mon man

I’ve never heard of someone just up and leaving after only two games. There has to be more to this story.

Former five-star shooting guard Jabari Brown’s future at Oregon is currently up in the air Sunday evening.

The status with freshman guard Jabari Brown is unknown.

Before Sunday afternoon’s game against SE Missouri State word trickled out that Brown may have left the program but no official word was released.

Oregon radio announced the guard had left during their pre-game show however but again, no official word came down.

Yet it was clear something was wrong as the 6-foot-4 guard was missing from warm-ups and then was a no show on Oregon’s bench as the game started.

By halftime Oregon released a short release confirming the rumors that Brown had left the program and he was removed from the school’s online roster on their webpage.

But following the game the talk of Brown being gone for good took a step backwards.

“I will say it up front, I don’t want him to leave. The door is still open. [for a return],” said Dana Altman following the game.

Altman says Brown came in Saturday and let the head coach know that he had decided to leave the Oregon program and wanted to leave.

“I did try to talk him out of it, I wanted him to reconsider. I hope he does reconsider,” said Altman. “He’s a good young man. He hasn’t gotten off to the start that he wanted. It is his decision and I want what’s best for him first of all.”

“But I do want him in the program, he’s a talented young man. He’s going to be a good basketball player and I’d like him to do it here,” said Altman.

Following the game a UO Spokesman said the removal of Brown from the roster and site online was a mistake and he had been added back to the Oregon roster.

From the Oregon side of things it seems like Brown’s departure could be a temporary ordeal and not final but no official comment has been given from Brown.

“I haven’t talked with him today, I will try to talk to him today,” said Altman of the possible return from Brown. “There is some in my mind and I hope there is in him. We will talk later today.”

Altman says there will be some time for Brown to think about what he wants to do with his future or possible future at Oregon with only a few games on the docket this week with Thanksgiving coming up.

“We’ve got Thanksgiving coming up here so he will have some time to think about what he wants to do, but again I am not closing the door here,” expressed Altman. “I want guys who want to be here but Jabari is a good young man and I’d like to work with him.’

“He was just frustrated with things,“ said Altman.

Brown, who led the team in scoring on their trip to Italy struggled early out of the gate this season scoring six points and game while shooting just 27-perct from the field and has committed a team high 11 turnovers.

“We didn’t get too deep into things. He’s just frustrated. So we will have to see,” said Altman.

Altman says the news came as a shock to him as the idea was never brought to his attention prior to Saturday.

He definitely has not had the smoothest transition. Even this summer, when he lead us in scoring in Italy, he turned the ball over a lot. He had almost as many TO’s as points in 2 games (11 TO/12 points). Nonetheless, he was starting and I am sure he would have come around eventually. Dana Altman makes a lot of substitutions and constantly has fresh bodies out there, so if he wanted to play in the mid-30 minutes, he probably chose the wrong place. Nonetheless, he is a freshman and not to many play that many minutes from jump go. The 25 he was averaging seemed pretty adequate.

Also, for those who do not remember, Jabari also left Findlay Prep Midseason to return closer to home at Oakland High:

Still, I am definitely bummed if Jabari does indeed choose to leave. I wish him all the best, but I am surprised he would not give us more of a chance beyond two games. He seemed to be fitting in well and happy with the team, I had not heard any rumors and I was very surprised to hear he was leaving. As Dana Altman said, the door is still open and it is not apparent whether the decision is final. Jabari Brown was definitely a monster recruit for us, but not every freshman carries a team on their shoulders. I am sure he would have gotten used to the system and more than likely excelled.

This has not even come close to my worst week as a sports fan, the Vikings sucked prior to this week and Adrian should probably not risk hurting himself anymore than he already has. The Ducks lost, but we still have a shot at the Rose Bowl, a game I am much more confident in us winning than the National Championship re-match against the monster known as LSU. Finally, I still do not know if Jabari has completely chosen to leave.

If he has, it is too bad, but I wish him the best and I know we are fairly stacked at guard, not to mention we have the likes of Daymean Dotson and Dominic Artis (who is Jabari’s boy from Oakland, but also has signed a LOI and seems to be his own person). So, life is cool peeps. Not the best news one can hear, but I honestly like that our team did not look to rely completely on Jabari. I think he would have only helped us and would have become our #1 option over time, but we have a big time scorer coming in the winter with Devoe Joseph, plus I really like our recruits for next year. We will see how this plays out, but I think it is more of a coin flip than a foregone conclusion at this point.

Dana Altman seems like a chill guy. He sounds kinda shook up, but how can you blame him? I hope Jabari returns to the program, or at least transfers to another school. It would be terrible if he just up and quits basketball altogether.

He also left Salesian High School after his sophomore year before he went to Findlay, he has a history of leaving teams.

MikeyVtheJerk probably sent him a 18 page essay of a fan letter and Jabari was finished packing by the second paragraph.

But, I guess Jabari was the exception 🙂

Anyway, Dave Telep claims that Jabari’s leaving has not fazed Dominic Artis, who is a from Oakland as well and a close friend of his. Artis was a fall signee, and seems content to play for the Ducks. I agree that Altman seems like a chill guy, and I think he is a great coach. He preaches defense and had some great outside shooters at his time at Creighton. I definitely hope Jabari keeps playing basketball, even if it is at another program. The guy is a fantastic player and seems to love the game, hopefully whatever issues he has right now do not effect that.

I really hope he goes back to Oregon and plays with his friend from Oakland and has an amazing college experience, sometimes these guys don’t know what a great opportunity they have until they don’t have it any more…i hope this doesn’t become the case with Jabari Brown
