Man  do we Celtics fans potentially  got ourselves a steal in Jabari Bird. Everyone knew coming into last years draft his main strength was shooting the ball but man I’ve been overly impressed with his athleticism and his ability to finish with contact. I know it’s just summer league but his hang time at the rim has to at least caught other folks attention.

I swear, I could hate a player and think he is garbage with no chance in the NBA, and once Danny takes him I’m like “crap what did I miss!”

DOnt 4get that Jabari Bird was a McDonalds All American and considered a 1 & done . But injuries limited his college career. Great that Ainge took a chance on him and now it’s paying off.

Hopefully Ainge can waive or trade Abdel Nader to free up the money to give Jabari a long term contract with the Celtics.  The question is if his agent would take a 3-4yr contract from the Celtics or try to see if another team would give him a more lucrative deal.

I remember bird at cal looking like a potential pro early in college and then he just leveled out and never made that next step to take over. Always had a smooth game and just oozes potential but never really hit the switch to dominate and by time he was a senior I just didn’t see him as an nba player anymore and was kinda surprised he got drafted to be honest. Glad to see he’s showing potential although of course we should all wait until he does it in real games.

For sure we shouldn’t overreact to Summer League games.  However what he’s showing in terms of cutting, finishing, and shooting is similar to what he showed in a handful of games with the Celtics last year.  Here are the highlights of his 15/3/3 game against the Bulls at the end of the year.

Perhaps JB is one of the reasons tha Ainge has YET to offer M Smart a contract. Perhaps he feels JB can be Smart’s replacement off the bench at a much CHEAPER contract. Not saying that his game is similar to Smart’s, but if Smart does leave this year or after next season, Bird will, be able to step right into the roatation and provide some decent production.
