Iverson Vs Wade
Iverson without a doubt anybody who says Wade must be really young or only remember the players who are still playing. From a numbers stand point Iverson. From a legacy standpoint...Iverson....From an iconic standpoint Iverson..
Here the kicker...wait for it..from a winning stand point....Iverson. Iverson's teams have had better records with him then Wades teams and the only time the Sixer ever got close to having a top 3 pick was the year after Iverson's rookie season. After that the Sixers were always a playoff team with Iverson. Wade's team were not always as dominant as shows by the fact they got the opportunity to draft Michael Beasley second in the prime of Wade career.
Some people are going to try to make a case for Wade...I dunno know how but Allen Iverson was the real truth when he was in his prime.
^^ The reason the Heat got that pick was because Wade was hurt for at least 75% of that season.
Who has a ring? Wade and its not even close to me if I could choose both in their prime to win a championship
Yeah i was going to say that in my argument but i didn't wanna lose any steam. But that is a huge factor on how big of an impact a player has on a franchise and the Sixers were always an extremely dangerous team with Iverson and nobody else for a decade including the one finals appearance where Iverson all by himself handed the steam rolling Lakers their only lost of the post season. That Lakers team was unstoppable with Shaq and Kobe peaking but when they ran into the Little Guy they're only bump in the road.
Iverson won the All Star Game MVP and the season MVP and was 3 wins from getting the finals MVP an the trifecta. The Sixers never built a serious team around A.I. They never had money to sign anybody either. Had they did Iverson would have a ring by now. Iverson won with the little he had and never made excuses never asked to be traded or anything he just went out and balled. Even when the Sixers finally did trade him Iverson was upset and his first home game back in Philly in a Nuggets uniform he ran to center court and kissed the Sixers Logo. Point is Wade is already 28 and even tho he does have a ring other then that he has not come close to accomplishing the things that Iverson did by age 28.
"Iverson won the All Star Game MVP and the season MVP and was 3 wins from getting the finals MVP an the trifecta."
3 wins from a Finals MVP really isn't close and was needless to bring up. So was the All-Star game MVP.
I really think if Wade can play at the level he's playing at now for about 2 or 3 more years, and picks up championship hardware he'll have a better legacy than Iverson. He's a better defender, a more efficient scorer, and he's more of a winner than Iverson was. All he has to do is win and stay very productive and he'll be better in the long term.
He's not more of a winner then Iverson how do you figure that? And Wade got one ring with SHAQ!!!!
What is Wade had to beat Shaq in his prime instead of team up with im do you still think he has a ring?
And what has Wade done since then? Since it wasn't Shaq's reason the Heat won but Wade's why haven't the Heat even made it out of the first round of the playoffs since then?
And Iverson averaged 29.7 PPG during the playoffs that is 2nd only to one person...Jordan...
I always wonder why people say that " he got a ring with "insert name" in this case Shaq" Wade won that finals, he was the reason they came back and beat Dallas. And Shaq didnt win titles alone he had Wade and Kobe and when he went the first time he had Penny. Yet when talking about Shaq very few say "we'll Shaq had Kobe,Wade thats what he won"
I'd rather have Wade on my team.
Yeah Shaq was clearly not the Lakers/Magic Shaq when he won that title with the Heat. Dwyane Wade dominated that series in 04 against Dallas. He was the player that carried the Heat to that title.
Also, the Heat haven't had any other good pieces since Shaq left for Wade to play with. Iverson played a season with Keith Van Horn (who was a legit 2nd or 3rd option then) and had other very good role players beside him. Wade? Lamar Odom was his 2nd option as a rookie, Shaq was even older and worse the year after the Heat won the title, Michael Beasley was his 2nd option (and wasn't very good alongside Wade) for 2 playoff trips with very below average role players with him in Wade's other appearances..Iverson didn't have great talent, but Wade has consistently had largely subpar players alongside him. He didn't even have champiuonship level role players the years he didn't win the title. Iverson did.
My take on Iverson's best squads in Philly 1999-2000 to 2002-2003
People always dog Iverson's teams in Philly, but they had some real good squads there. I feel Iverson's career has been a bit exaggerated over the years by fans. This under 6 foot shooting guard with no one on his team single handedly making it to the finals despite having 11 Joe Wolf caliber players around him.
Those Philly teams were good, with a good coach and a very solid supporting cast, I'd compare them to the past couple Cavs teams formed around Lebron.
I'm going Wade for a couple reasons.
I think Wade's personality made it easier for him to be built around. With Iverson, he didn't wanna give up shots at time, didn't wanna practice and was known as a chucker. Wade made it somewhat easier for him to be built around.
Also, Wade has a ring.
^ The ring thing really does go a long way I think, I'd say the 2000-2001 76ers were on paper (insane defensively!) a better team than the 2005-2006 Miami Heat. I don't think thats an instance where you can use the "Iverson never had a good team" excuse.
Defensive-wise, that team was better then the Heat.
However, I really think Miami would win in a 7 game series because Miami had more scorers. I believe Wade could hold Iverson down to around 20-25 points in a 7 game series
But that 6ers team could throw Aaron McKie at Wade, I think that would greatly hinder his scoring ability
I dunno...I feel the Heat are better. More capable scorers.
You're forgetting a prime Theo Ratliff pulling down 8.5 boards and blocking close to 4 shots a game.
Alright, throw him in. I forgot Kapono for Miami.
Still trust Miami's capable scorers.
both great players and wades defensive advantage makes it a legit question. But iverson was a more explosive scorer and there were nights where he was unstoppable and carried his team, much more so then wade. Iverson could have easily had 2 mvps and i thought he should have won it the year nash got his first.
A.I. When in his prime he was the best guard & maybe the bets player(minus shaq) in the league he was hands down the most popular player he change the nba. When he came into the league he turned the nba into a hip-hop league. He was the 1st player to ever rock the arm sleeve & that was because the nba wanted him to hid his tats. Now everyone wears it. his shoes, the rebook comercials raping with jadakiss. & on the court his heart & hustle was 2nd to none at the time. He was only 5'11 & jus went out there every night & led a sixers team with very little talent around him to tons of wins & to 3games of a championship But he ran into shaq in his prime of pure dominance. I am a life long sixers fan & a die hard A.I fan but just look at the talent that Wade has played with compared to Iverson & look at the numbers, & look at their impact on the NBA. Its a no-brainer, it Iverson.
Iverson could have easily had 2 mvps and i thought he should have won it the year nash got his first.
They should have gave it to Kobe which allowed KG to get his in 2008. Lol.
From a Stats perspective A.I
What A.I did for basketball, whether you view it as negative or positive, you can't deny the effect he had on the NBA that still lives on today.
He is an iconic player. Probably top 5 or 10 most popular players EVER in the NBA. His skills were undeniable and that's what made him great, but his persona, the braids, tattoos, The Crossover, the jewelry .. he pretty much started that.
He is a player that everyone loved to watch but ultimately fell short of the ultimate goal.
I won't say Wade is better but if they win a a title or two he will be better historically.
Is this a serious argument? We hav eiverson on 1 side who is prob the greatest little man scorer to ever play the game and led a orry sixers squad to the playoffs and a finals appearance. then we have wade who played along a really good but not great shaq and had great role players around him. this is a no brainer all day. Iverson is the better player. The ring talk is pointless. Give iverson a serviceable bigman besides dikembe mutombo and watch wat he can do. give iverson a guard better than eric snows sorrry a$$ and see wat happens
Iverson wasn't easy to build around
Wade was and a ring is the proof.
u can put anybody around shaq and win a ring. if wade is so good how come when he had jermaine oneal and shawn marion he didnt win a ring?
Snow was actually VERY beneficial to Iverson's career, and so was Mutumbo.
And I'd go with Iverson over Wade. Iverson, in his prime, was unstoppable at only 6' 0" 165 lbs. How he did what he did is STILL to this very day unbelievable to me. I mean, to dominate the NBA at only 6' 0" (probably shorter) and 165 lbs is just amazing.
i think its about time we start to add points to people who start good topics lol
Iverson, no doubt. Quickest player in the history of the game who let it all out on the floor and was as tough as they get.
AI at his peak was a freak a guy under 6ft tall who could keep going like the Energizer bunny able to attack the basket almost at will. But he never won a ring and thus Kobe for example is now regarded as a greater player than AI. Statswise AI has it on scoring but D-Wade could be part of a Miami legacy yet could anyone see D-Wade winning an MVP award whilst being on the same team as LeBron!
It was a great pity that AI could not reign in his ego over the last few years as surely he would then have got a role on a contending team and finally had another shot at at ring.
GUY WHO IS 5.10 160 LEADS HIS TEAM TO FINALS,TAKIN HIT AFTER HIT BUT ALWAYS STANDING WITH PROUD.... AI MY MAN,HE GOT HEART.... and d.wade is my second favourite player but The Answer is the answer... point blank period
why Wade is a more of a winner than Iverson it because of Wade being not selfish as Iverson, Wade knowing it's a team sport and knowing to give others the room that needed!
Who is better Wade or Iverson?
If you ask this question 5 years from now, 85% of everyone would say Wade..
But asking that question today 60% of everyone will say Iverson....
Iverson was so ball dominant ,it was hard to find guys he could play with..But when he won MVP, few people made a case for someone else ..Iverson was the clear cut winner..
I remember when Kenny Thomas was traded from the 76'ers he said ,it will be great to play team ball again...When Iverson was traded from Denver,George Karl said, now the team can get back to playing together....
That Iverson lead 76'er team that made it to the finals..might be 1 of the best defensive teams ever.....
