really? clearly those box

really? clearly those box scores says Thomas was better? I see him outscoring Stockton and that's it. Stockton 11.1 apg to Thomas's 7.8. Stockton got 9 less points but only took 9 shots per game to Thomas's 17.1 shots per game meaning Thomas shot almost twice as much and distributed significantly less to score those 9 extra points. Also Thomas averaged 1 more turnover per game and the biggest thing of all for seeing how they ran their teams, Stockton won the majority of the games 11 to Thomas's 8 wins. So if by clearly better you mean he scored more points, then I agree but that's it.

My Opinion Only

Stockton and Isiah may have been close statistically in their prime years. Stockton had a longer career and garnered a lot of accolades. As far as accomplishments, Stock is right there.

I do say for those who use Stock's longevity, that is circumstantial. He played under a great coach and system for many years. That same system that Deron Williams once benefited from. Not to say he owes it all to Sloan or Utah...but all parties benefited from each other.

For those who say stats dont lie...well they dont outright lie but they can be deceptive as hell if you never seen or remember them play.

For those who use titles as the sole argument...that's not entirely fair either.

What it comes down to for me was the results and how they fared when it mattered most.

Isiah was the better player. All things considered...they couldve been very close in terms of what they were able to accomplish. Isiah just gets the edge because he had that extra something that Stock didnt have....athleticism.

That athleticism allowed him to simply take over a game when needed. That athleticism allowed him to not get chewed up and exploited on defense.

This is what it comes down to for me...

Isiah was able to lead or help lead his team to 2 titles. There is no debating that.

When it came down to winning a title or even getting out of the Conference Finals...Stockton wasnt able to get it done. Everyone loves to say well if such and such were in the 90's they wouldnt have won either. That may be true but I vividly remember when Jordan retired and everyone pegged Utah to win it all then. In those 2 years, the Jazz lost to the Rockets 7-3 in the WCFs. Clearly the Rockets were a better team. "but..but..but...they had Olajuwon!" True...and NOBODY could stop Olajuwon. That wasnt the difference in the games though. The difference to me came down to the fact that Stockton and Hornacek could not contain the speed, quickness, and athleticism of the Houston backcourt.

The regular season and playoffs are totally different. When playoffs come around, its all about the matchups. Who can check their guy. Style of play. I do not mean to offend and certainly this is my own view....but Stockton was overrated as a defender IMO due to the number of steals he was able to rack up. To me, the Houston series proved it.

"When it came down to winning

You should be able to comprehend what I mean...but obviously you dont. Does 97 and 98 disagree that he lost in the Finals both times? He failed to get out of the WCF 2 years when Jordan was absent...yet everyone always blames Jordan on the reason why they never won. You tell me what did Jordan have to do with Utah not getting to the Finals much less winning a title from 87-97?

This comment clearly states Stockton was not able to get out of the conference finals. Its not me misinterpreting or not understanding anything. You flat out said he was not able to get out of the conference finals.

what you mean wow? im

what you mean wow? im obviously not referring to the title part since he didn't win a title. I specifically mentioned the getting out of the conference part. That's what this back and forth is about.

THOMAS

THOMAS > STOCKTON

stockton did it for longer, but when Isiah was at the top of his game he was at the top of the game. Theres maybe only 5 players in the history of the NBA that can do this

thomas has 2 rings, stockton has zero. Herm Edwards told me we play to win the game, so ill go with that

Isiah vs John

John Stockton was one of the game's BEST! I really admire him. That said, PLEEEEZE! Here I am comparing the great Walt Frazier to Zeke, or maybe Oscar Robertson.....ie, in terms of LITTLE point guards. Why in the world are we comparing the talent (I say "talent!") of Stockton or Chris Paul or ANYbody to the great guard we once called "Water" in high school??!! "Water!" ....cuz the man just FLOWED!

Isiah Thomas: The BEST little guard in NBA history...............EVER!!
