Just saw on ESPN that he has been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome yesterday, which will end his basketball career. I can’t imagine what he and his family is going through since the draft is only 4 days away. Granted, he was going to be a mid-late second round pick, but playing in the NBA is the ultimate deam that every basketball players have.

heartbreaking for him and his family and friends.  Work your whole life for something and have it taken away four days before it’s about to come to fruition.

I wonder if more ppl knew about this for months…casuse i always thought he should have been a late first rounder than a late second rounder which was where every mock draft had him going…so sad to see a young man have his career cut short like that

Maybe but he’s been a late 2nd round talent all year. When you’re weak, unathletic and praised for shooting (which he’s incredibly overrated at) there just isn’t much point in taking him.

Man, that’s some of the worst news I’ve heard all week. I loved his game at Baylor and I was really hoping he would he a second round gem. He was also half blind, which made his chances of getting drafted even smaller, but Marfan Syndrome… Man that’s tough. Best of luck to him and his family

he can get through this. I thought he would have been a good investment for a 2nd round pick if a team worked with him.

Really feel awful for this kid. He was just a couple weeks away from basically being Guarenteed to make 500k in 1 year. That’s huge. Now he’s a kid without a college degree and now is a 7’1 kid who has to work in the real world and find a real job to make ends meat and the timing is terrible. At least if this happend 2 years in the kid would have made 1 Million dollars and had a little nest egg, now he’s left high and dry to start his life over.

being able to live his dream, not having his degree is the other terrible part.  Would be nice to see Baylor let him finish school for free to compensate for all the asses he put in seats in his time in Waco.

I believe its vital for these guys to have something to fall back on.  This news is terrible for Austin.  What skills does he have in the real world besides being tall and playing basketball?  Guys are guaranteed millions because they are skilled at putting a leather ball in a metal hoop, but what if something like this happens?  What if someone tears up there knee and can’t run ever again?  What if they have a rare disease like this?  Guys leave school early, but the end of their careers can be sudden and what are they left with if they don’t have sports?

1st the news of Embiid’s injury and possibly dropping in the draft..And now to hear that Austin will never play in the nba..News like this has taken some of the excitement away from 1 of the most anticipated draft in years…….

But i thought it was great for Scott Drew to offer him a coaching job..He seems like a good hearted kid……God always find ways for his Angels to Shine,no matter the adversity ….

I just read it on hoopshype and man is this tough news. I’m really really sad to Heat he now has no chance anymore to play in the league. To make it to the NBA as the first player ever with only one eye working would have been incredible itself cause no one accomplished this before and with this years weak center prospects available he should have a real shot of at least making a roster next year even if undrafted.

They say it was diagnosed at the combine which is good in some kind of way avoiding a potential horror scenario if he collapsed in practice or even in a pro game but 4 days before the draft to been dismissed from archieving a lifetime dream this is nothing but sad.

I hope he won’t have problems in his daily life and finds something he can do with his life now. Sad thing is he now left Baylor while declaring and can’t go on as a student in college or maybe they give him the chance to finish his education there.

What a sad story this is.

Very sad news for Isaiah but if it had been undiagnosed then he could have put himself in fatal danger playing basketball. At least now he can learn to try and live with his condition and get on with his life.

Life can be so cruel at times, I feel horrible for Isaiah Austin. Not only is his career over, but his life is in danger to some extent. Just sad.

he was the last pick of my 1st round mock draft (maybe too high for other people, but i really like a 7′ with good agility and shot blocking skills).

Really sad news.. I know Zeke over the pass couple years and he is really a good dude. God fearing man and has a good head on his shoulders. Hes one of my favorite prospects and many times we talked about God and wasnt basketball. Its sad because he was going to get Drafted and have a good career. He will prolly continue his education. Life is more important by basketball and I am praying for him

Really sad news.  Always hate to hear stories like these, where young athletes (or anyone his age) are diagnosed with rare diseases that can be life threatening.  Hope the best for him, and hopefully he can live a long, healthy life.

I’m sure some team with how bad last year was would have drafted him in the 20s. I wonder if any owner will draft him and sign him for good press?

Damn… this is heart breaking and it happened 3-4 days before the draft. Also, I want to make a question on how this was not detected sooner. Symptons of Marfan syndrome include: abnormal long, slender limbs with thin wrists, heart problems (interview explained a heart rupture is possible), and the biggest giveaway: retina dislocation. Isaiah Austin had around 4 surgeries at the age of 16 trying to bring vision back into his right eye to no success. Then again, it’s hard to detect those type of symptoms in the NCAA where big men are the standards of basketball even with Isaiah Austin’s height and wingspan. Thank god he choose to enter the draft early; imagine what would have happened if he stayed for one more year….-shudders-. I hope Isaiah Austin can find a way to still maintain a successful and healthy life because the results of people with Marfan syndrome in the past… let’s just say it didn’t turn out so well

I like Austin, and I believe that some Nba teams called him in 2nd round EVEN IF has only one eye ( the other is a GLASS EYE…) . But this doesn’t effect his game; Ok the guy is no athletic but YOU CAN’T TEACH SIZE & LOVE FOR THE GAME ! Hope best for him

Could he play at least one year or two and be drafted in the 2nd round? just to complete the dream of every basketball player? or the marfan syndrome cant let him play at any level?
