Caught the last minute highlights of the Rockets and Thunder last game.  Not remembering every detail but the Rockets were down 3 and needed a three pointer.  Thunder fouled as soon as the ball was passed in.  The game ended with the last four or so possessions becoming free throws and ended a great game with some boring charity stripe shots.  Games shouldnt come down to controlling the other teams possession with intentional fouls.   One free throw and possession should be awarded ALL GAME LONG.  Closer this year to ending "Hack a Shaq" but needs this final change.

Another thought on competitive rule changes is redefining perimeter offense/defense and support for the defender.  No continuation on a three pointer should be called unless a definate act of shooting foul.  Lean in 3s to the defender is an offensive foul.  Lean in 3s past the line should be consider two point shots.  Only straight up and down 3 point jump shots or set 3s should be 3s.  After all, the 3 point shot should be 23 feet 9 inches away.

Just a few far out ideas to slow down the 3 point bonanza and the "Jump shooting NBA"

    – Screens out past the three point line could make the three pointer be considered a two or make screens illegal past the three point line.  The two point idea sounds reasonable

    – Brilliant idea!  Designate cameras and a few officals to follow players feet for traveling calls.  A LED Sign near the backboard lights up upon a travel call and possession is changed.  More calls of traveling will be properly called.  Will allow floor refs to whistle fouls more correctly both ways.  Only makes sense to keep the refs eye off the players feet!

Loving the playoffs but games are becoming more and more predictable.  The three pointer trumps all and gets all the benefit of screens, lean-ins, and defensive fouls called.  Practically invinceable to compete with.  Hopefully a little "old NBA" comes back with a few rule adjustments and new monitering…

Not to be misunderstood.  Cameras and officials upstairs monitor traveling calls.  Not Floor officials.

Not bad basketball. If the goal is to win the game, ugly sometimes wins.  Good coaches know when to employ it though.

I really hate watching guys like Harden how he leans and takes an intentionally awkward shot to get a call. He’s obviously not going for the make, just the foul. He does make some of them. He often initiates the contact, so it should be an offensive foul. He’s not the only one, just a good example. That’s bad officiating, but I’m guessing it’s the nba trying to pad their stars stats.

Expand the lane a bit. Get rid of the 3 all together. Do a 4 point line 30 feet out. It would basically take away parking a guy in the corner for a corner 3. Would incentivize spacing, ball movement, and the mid-range game. Might also help bring back a quick post-up game.

    Fouls:

Flops result in a technical foul. One shot and the ball.

Offensive fouls: one shot and then ball. Or, if you are already in the bonus, still one extra foul shot and the ball.

Bring back/call the closely guarded 5 second rule.

To discourage hacking: bring in the free throw line half a foot — make the free throw a bit of an easier shot. But if you heavily penalize flopping AND offensive fouls then it makes the game cleaner and more fundamentally sound all around. Guys wouldn’t get intentially hacked if they could hit 70% or 75% of their foul shots. Brining the foul line closer but expanding the lanes further down the baseline could help bring the high post game back.
