Impossible stat lines

Here are some stat lines that I don't believe have ever been accomplished in the NBA.

- 15 threes in a game

- quintuple double

- Score 50 on 10 or less shots (FGA) - has this ever been done? What's the record low for FGA on a 50+ game?

- Triple double, no shots (as in 0-0FG, all points on FTs)

- Quadruple double without points (4 x 10 in categories other than points)

Which do you consider would be most difficult to achieve?

Which do you think can be achieved and by which player?

Are any impossible to achieve?

I think most of these are as close to impossible as you can get. Out of the "normal" type records out there, I don't believe anyone can beat Wilts 100 or his 55 boards. Skiles' 30 assists is a lot too..

I think Draymond could go closest to a quintuple double or quad without points. I'm not sure he could do it though. Embiid maybe, he had a game of 46, 15, 7 & 7 or something already but to add in the extra blocks and dimes then 10 steals.. big ask.

Steph could hit 15 threes but I'd like to see it.

The triple double on 0-0FG is one I just thought of watching Simmons today. Ibelieve had 5 boards and 5 assists before taking a shot.

Somone will hit 15 threes.

Somone will hit 15 threes. Curry has already had a 13-three and a 12-three game. Hell, Donyell Marshall had a 12-three game once. I could see a high-volume shooter on a bad team doing it, if he's just given a green light to chuck it in a meaningless game. Someone like Devin Booker or Kemba Walker

Quintuple-double? Does it have to be points, boards, assists, blocks and steals? If so, never gonna happen. Only three guys have had quadruple-doubles with blocks (Nate Thurmond, Olajuwon, Admiral), and none of them had more than two steals. Alvin Robertson had a quadruple-double with steals once, but blocked no shots. No one's ever even had 7-7-7 with assists, blocks and steals. That said, on March 10, 1987, Hakeem surely had one of the greatest statistical games in NBA history with 38 points, 17 boards, 6 assists, 7 steals and 12 blocks. That looks like he came pretty close, but when you think about it he was only basically halfway there on assists, and it's hard to just pull four assists out of your ass, especially when you're not a primary ballhandler. Also, that game went to double OT.

50 on less than 10 shots I don't think will ever happen. The most free throws anyone's ever attempted in a game, unless they were being hacked on purpose, is 31 (Adrian Dantley). Remarkably, Ben Simmons has already come really close to that with a 29-FTA game a few nights ago. He's a bad free throw shooter so maybe there was some hack-a-Ben going on, but he should get better. So let's say he has a game where he takes 30 free throws and hits 27 of them -- a 90% clip. He would need to score 23 more points on 9 shots to reach 50. That would require going 9-9 from the field with 5 threes. Or 8-9 with 7 threes. That's a whole lot of unusual things that would have to happen in a single game. And also, you're not going to stop shooting if you're 9-9 from the field.

Do you happen to know what

Do you happen to know what the NBA record is for lowest FGA in a 50+ game? I'm very curious now

Willie Burton: 19 FGA

Willie Burton did it on 19 shots in 1994. James Harden did on 25 about a month ago.

FTAs

Dwight Howard has actually attempted 39 FTs in a game twice, Drummond 36, DeAndre Jordan 34, Wilt 32 in his 100 point game and Dantley is tied with Shaq with 31 FTA in a game

this are some interesting

this are some interesting stat line but some are just real impossible. I looked up the fewest fga on 50 point games and the record is 19 so fewer then 10 is kind of impossible.

I think the best website for questions like this is statmuse.com

I follow this site for a while now and already tried it while this was still beta and it’s incredible that you can just ask the following for example and somehow it works:

who had the fewest field goal attempts in a 50 point game?

https://statm.us/e/HnJqJFOJW

Very impressive free flow search engine with great visualization and works perfectly not just for NBA, try it guys!

Very nice! I found the Willie

Very nice! I found the Willie Burton 53 off 19 shots too. I thought it would've been bettered but no... One interesting one though - Karl Malone once had 61 on 26 shots. That's pretty impressive. I guess 10 or less really is near impossible

Dirk Nowitzki scored 48 off

Dirk Nowitzki scored 48 off of 15 attempts in the playoffs in 2011. That's the closest I've seen. He was 12/15 from the field and 24/24 from the foul line. Very impressive.

Giannis could possibly do a

Giannis could possibly do a quintuple double, Embiid as mentioned above along with Draymond and Whitesidc could be other contenders.

Harden and Curry would be my suggestions for 15 three pointers in a game, if a game went to OT or even double OT, I could see it happening.

Sam Perkins did a 30-20-10

Sam Perkins did a 30-20-10 triple double once. Wilt had a 20-20-20 triple double once. Don't think anyone else has done a 3twenty. Perkins had that rare line, not sure many have done that (he had his with assists).

I wanna know what the record for most points WITH 30 rebounds is. 50? 60?

A 50-30 would be amazing. Shaq or C Webb might have actually gotten close.

Crazy that only Kendall Gill has only MATCHED Larry Kenon's record 11 steals in a game. That record has lasted longer than the assist record.

Wonder who the first guy to get 12 steals in a game will be.

5 x 5's are really cool. Very rare, too. Have we even had a triple double with a 5x5 (triple double with, I am assuming 5 steals and 5 blocks). Unless a select few have done it (David Robinson, Olajuwon) I don't think anyone has done that yet.

Draymond Green had a triple double without points or something like that, but only had 3 or 4 blocks.

Would LOVE to see a VIDEO GAME MANUTE BOL aka the first guy in history to hit 10 3's AND block 10 shots in the same game.

50 points on JUST three pointers. That would give you 17 3's AND the single game 3 point record.

SIXTY POINTS on only 3 pointers would give you 20 3 pointers.

Not actually sure if anyone has scored much more than 50 AND had 10 3's in the same game (sounds like a Curry or Harden game).

What is the record for total points in a game for a player who has hit 10 3's in a game.

Of all the mythical records, I think I want to see a team score 200 points in a game. Not even an All Star team has done it although they have gotten close the last couple of years.

I think THIS year a team might get 200. Maybe BOTH. The East is gonna roll out a video game squad this year.

Rebounds in a game: playoff record is 55, which ACTUALLY seems like a more out-of-reach goal than 100 points in a game. Nobody has even had 40 in a regular season game since, I think, Jerry Lucas.

What is the highest total of blocks, steals, or assists (or even 3's) in a 30 for 30 game aka 30 points and 30 rebounds.

25x25x25 hasn't been done before. Would LOVE to see that totals for somebody. LeBron MIGHT be able to get those totals in points, rebounds, and assists. Other than that maybe Giannis or Simmons one day.

Elmore Smith has the record for 17 blocks in a game. It's a bigly number but not THAT big, but guys aren't blocking that many shots any more. Bol and Mark Eaton have some really high games. Shaq blocked 15 once.

Seems odd that the steals record and the blocked shots record were set back in the 70's and have yet to be broken. Even though with all the crazy numbers that have been put up in NBA history, 17 blocks and 11 steals don't actually seem that out-of-reach.

As far as season records go, Tiny Archibald was the last, AND ONLY, player to ever lead the league in points AND assists in the same season. James Harden is currently leading the league in BOTH. If he does that, I think that makes Harden the MVP front runner.

Outside of points though, that 55 rebounds in one single game is probably the most out of reach. AND, given that Bill Russell's board record happened in the PLAYOFFS and given the innovation of the 3 pointer, that MIGHT be the single greatest single game record in NBA history.

Most points along with 30

Most points along with 30 boards? Wilt, with 68. 12-16-67.

Wilt had 9 50/30 games. No one else has ever done it.

You can search for all this stuff at basketball-reference.com.

I'm pretty sure there have

I'm pretty sure there have been some other random big triple doubles. Jamaal Tinsley went on a tear there for a bit, I know he had one triple double including about 23 assists.

All I wanna see know is a

All I wanna see know is a full fourth quarter of the All Star Game between Simmons, Giannis, LeBron, Porzingas, and Embiid vs. Harden, Durant, Anthony Davis, Jokic, and Towns.

Someone will eventually get

Someone will eventually get 15 threes a game. No idea who, never thought Donyell Marshall of all people would get 12. I'll go Lauri Markannen for fun.

Score 50 on less than ten shots seems impossible but I could see James Harden get somewhat close if he has a ridiculous game and hits around 25/25 free throws and nails a number of three pointers.

Triple double with no shots ain't gonna happen. I'll go Bismack Biyombo to come closest if he gets 40 mins due to injuries, has a crazy block party game and the other team plays hack-a-Biyombo.

Noone's getting a quadruple double without points. But I'll say Giannis for shiz and giggles.

I think Andre Drummond can

I think Andre Drummond can get 10 vboards in his sleep so he could be a chance to do a 0-0 FG triple double. If he got hacked on every shot attempt, he could make it cos I think he could realistically get 10 assists or blocks in a game.

Dennis Rodman wanted to play

Dennis Rodman wanted to play in a game naked before retiring.

Thankfully, this one never came to pass.
