valentineI’m willing to inhale and digest all the Negs ,backlash and Lmaos from the forum crew.. Just as long as u boys give me props for being the most knowledgable poster when my boy Oubre is holding up his award next spring.. Guy didn’t meet expectations at KU.. But as u y’all noticed watching him in SL.. He will become the Bullets 2nd best player.. Take that from someone that really truly knows basketball..

T RexYeah, I’m already captain of the Oubre bandwagon. I said he should be in consideration for a top pick, and it’s already obvious that he’s a far superior player to D’Angelo.
It’s insane how people sleep on his pure shooting, length, and athleticism combo. It’s Paul George stuff.
My Celtics tried to trade up for him but couldn’t. Like Nurkic last year, Oubre went one pick earlier.
Near term potential to dominate defensively when he has to, and be one of the better 3 and D guys, even as a rookie. Not Kawhi or George level as a rookie, but definitely down the road.

Magic JordanParticipantThe only thing he has on D’Angelo is Athleticism… which is greatly overrated. He has good length for his position… (As does Russell). Yet you call him a "pure shooter" and routinely blast Russell for being an "overrated" shooter. So here are some simple statistics from College that show you have little to no basis to say that Oubre is a better shooter… or even a pure shooter at all for that matter. Unless of course you want to refer to the Summer League as the end all… which I don’t think even you are stupid enough to do.
Russell – FG – 231/515 44.9%
2P – 136/284 47.9%
3P – 95/231 41.1%
FT – 118/156 75.6%
TS% – 57.3%
USG 30.2%
eFG% – 54.1%Oubre – FG – 110/248 44.4%
– 2P – 76/153 49.7%
– 3P – 34/95 35.8%
– FT – 79/110 71.8%
TS% – 55.5%
USG 23.1%
eFG% – 51.2%A "pure" shooter who shoots 71% from the free throw line? Typically a "pure" shooter would be excused from a poor 3P% ala your boy RJ Hunter due to usage and a higher FT%. 71.8% is nowhere near a "pure" shooter especially when his usage rate isn’t high enough to be considered detrimental. He has a stroke that looks nice sure. The results are mediocre. Then… just to cement your legitimate stances you consistently label Russell as a poor shooter… when the numbers, at least the simple numbers show he is a better shooter than Oubre in just about every aspect. Not only is he the better shooter, he is the better scorer as well. More advanced shooting statistics are hard to find at the collegiate level. Luckily for us NBA season is just around the corner where we will get to see both of these players struggle for awhile to figure things out. We will watch Russell struggle to adjust to the speed of the game, things he will eventually overcome. We will watch Oubre struggle with his routinely poor attitude and incredibly low basketball IQ… things he is pretty much stuck with (coupled with his little to no dribble drive game). Hey though, at least he has long arms and can jump really high(not really though) and has a good looking stroke. You say Paul George… to me he is Wes Johnson.
On the other side of the spectrum…. aside from D Russ being a Laker and you being a typical troll (Celtics fan), the one weakness that is obvious in his game is his lack of athleticism. It is quite glaring though considerably overrated in my eyes. Only time will tell and fortunately it’s coming quick… about a month away now until preseason starts. Preseason which is really pointless, but I have no doubt that you will use to perpetuate the puke that routinely comes out of your mouth… much like you used Summer League to proclaim Terry Rozier as the 2nd coming of Westbrook.

T RexIf Russell was Tim Duncan size he could get away with it. Or even Kyle Anderson size. Same player actually, but I’ll take Anderson right now over Russell. The only redeeming value to that pick is the fact that the Lakers have zero other good passers on the roster. It’s as if all the black holes fell into another black hole, lol.
Swirling vortex of on-court chemistry.
As for your Russell/Kelly Oubre argument, you’re living in the past. Get with the times, it’s not May, 2015 any more, and no, we no longer say "groovy" every other sentence.
We all know Oubre had a rough start to his college career. He was utterly unprepared for the level of professionalism, work, and maturity that was required of him.
By the end of the season his defense was dominant, his jump shot was pure, his confidence was sky high, and his dribble driving was coming around.
With a full summer of professional level coaching, after an eye opening college experience, Oubre is simply more skilled and much much more mature than he was in November.
Oubre was a vastly superior prospect to Russell, and for good reason. He already showed us the reasons in his draft process and summer league.
We haven’t seen anything at all from Russell since March, and really, the awesome, dominant Russell disappeared after the soft non-conference schedule.
Sorry I had to break it down like that. You guys need to keep tanking anyway, which is one of the hardest things to do. Seriously. There’s so much pressure on a franchise to compete, Especially in NYC or LAL.
And maybe Russell will be a stud backup pg when you guys are really rocking again in 1-3 years.

ZachAttackParticipantYou know that the Celtics were after Kaminsky right? Not Oubre… I think you’re the only one that "knows" that the Celtics were trying to trade up for him.

http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2015/08/boston_celtics_rumors_2015_kelly_oubre_nba_draft.html "August 20, 2015 at 1:10 PM The Boston Celtics were interested in former Kansas forward Kelly Oubre in the 2015 NBA Draft — interested enough, per a story from Sporting News’ Sean Deveney, to attempt a trade with the Atlanta Hawks one pick early in order to move up and acquire him. From Deveney’s story, an excellent feature on Oubre’s life: Oubre was high on the board of several lottery teams, including the Hornets at No. 9 and Heat at No. 10, but when he slipped into the teens, there was a clamor from teams to move up and grab him. Boston likely would have taken him at No. 16, a source said, and once the Celtics failed to get Charlotte’s pick, they tried to move up for Oubre. Several other teams had interest, and a source told Sporting News that the Rockets (with the 18th pick) were trying to move up, too. But it wasn’t until Oubre’s agent, Nima Namakian, got a text message from Wizards vice president Tommy Sheppard on draft night, telling him that the Hawks had agreed to a deal, that Oubre finally knew how his situation would pan out. The Celtics tried extremely hard to move up to No. 9 in order to acquire Justise Winslow, ultimately coming up empty. Boston, according to reports, didn’t expect Winslow to be available at the No. 9 pick, which is part of the reason the team went so hard to try to get him. Oubre would have been a similar surprise at No. 15 — while some draft boards had him sliding into the mid-teens, his skill set and athleticism suggested he could be worth a much higher pick."

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI like oubres potential and definitely think he could outplay his draft position. Let’s be realistic here though. The wizards are a veteran team with playoff aspirations and he is not ready to be an impact player right away. He will not get the playing time necessary to be anywhere near the rookie of the year discussion.

BallBeenLifeParticipantHe has all the physical tools to be good! Oubre was labled basketball illiterate by GM’s before the draft. But I think he has the work ethic to speed up the process. I don’t see it all coming together in his first year and definitely don’t see him winning rookie of the year.
From what I saw at the summer league I have Mudiay or Okafor winning it..

IlladelphParticipantI guess Oubre for ROY is not totally out there. Though it’s hard to imagine him beating out some of the 14 guys taken ahead of him, like Turner, Winslow, Johnson, Mudiay, Stein, Hezonja, Okafor, Russell, and Towns.
I think that Oubre is very raw, and his pick was purely on "upside". He basically did nothing special at Kansas. I watched a lot of Kansas games and he seemd lost for most of them. He did make some athletic plays and had some moments, but he didn’t really develop much at Kansas.
I doubt he will be ROY because I doubt he will be featured on the Wizards. He will come off the bench, and/or spend a lot of time in the D-League.
KAT, or Okafor, or Russell have a much better chance at ROY simply because they will get tons of playing time, and they will develop much faster. Plus, they are better players at this point.
Oubre will probably need a few years to learn the game, not just the NBA game, but the actual game of basketball. That’s not a knock on him. That’s the way it goes for most players.
