I'm a believer in the Lakers

I can't believe I'm saying this, but these Lakers have me convinced that they're legit. I know it's only been 2 and 3 fourths games, but the way they're sharing the ball is beautiful. Every time Kobe attacks or dribbles toward the middle of the floor, the defense reacts and you have to either double or prepare to help. Kobe takes perfect advantage of this and dishes the ball out to the perimeter, where Nash makes a beautiful play and they score, or Kobe just finds the cutter or the open shooter himself. He has 10 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds through 3 quarters, and the Lakers are up by 10 against the Pelicans. Even though it is the pelicans and at times you can tell that they're an old and slow team, they're offense is really overwhelming when they're clicking. They essentially have a 9 man rotation(although I'd like to see more of Pau, only 21 minutes with 9 mins left in the 4th.

And one thing that has stuck out to me is Kobe's rebounding. I can understand his dramatic increase in assists but his rebounding has been at the same level for about 7 years now, was he really desperate enough to just go all out on the boards as well? I'm assuming the rebounding is an aberration, but I don't think the assist are, he's really changed the way he plays and is really trying to get his teammates involved.

Even though I enjoyed watching the Lakers lose, as a basketball fan I can't help but admire the way they're playing and it really is fun to watch.

I won't say they're a championships team yet, but as I've said all along, with these players, they can go far.

Wow, right after I post this

Wow, right after I post this the Pelicans go on a 16-2 run to cut the Lakers' 18 point lead to 4. Their transition defense is still terrible, and they need to hit wide open jumpers, Kobe is getting them open shots though. If you put Ryan Anderson on this Lakers Team he'd average 5 threes a game, and I'm not exaggerating

Lakers are the only team

Where the reaction to them winning is just as big to the reaction as when they are losing. And neither of the two are ever justified. They have won three straight. Biggest win came from OKC. They are still 4 games below .500.Hate to rain on everyone's parade but the Lakers remind me alot of the Dallas cowboys of the NBA. Js...

Count on Kobe

Kobe can be frustrating at times. You wonder why he hasn't played like this all season. He can do whatever he wants on the court. IF he wants to score 40, he can. IF he wants to pass for 10 assists, he can. And like aamir543 pointed out, he's not playing selfish and just trying to get assists... He's willing to get that "hockey" assist.

The Lakers are onto something. I like how they're using Nash off of the ball on the same side as Kobe's, so the defenders have to think twice about doubling him. You can't leave Nash open. He's arguably the best shooter in NBA history.

It's taken awhile, but it looks like roles are settling in for this Lakers team and they've found a way to play off of each other.

Sat of the NightThe Lakers

Stat of the Night:

The Lakers are 0-9 when Kobe scores 35 or more points, and are 4-0 when he scores 15 or less.

Lakers are 20-25. If they were to go 24-13 for the rest of the season they would finish up 44-38 which would at a guess put them in the playoffs....

I noticed you mentioned their transition D..

Does anybody else notice that Kobe plays no transition defense whatsoever?? When there's a breakaway or a chance for Kobe to maybe get a chase down block, or at least try to make a play, he stops at about half court and seemingly gives up on the play... Just noticing cuz it kinda bugs me after watching quite a few Laker games this year...

But Yeah, even though not really a fan, I picked them to win the title before the season starts.. They've been making me look pretty stupid all season, but I still expect them to be a team no one will want to face in the postseason IF they can get there....

He's probably trying to

He's probably trying to conserve his energy. Also, he's getting up there in age and understands his athleticism isn't what it once was.

Good for basketball

If the Lakers can keep this up and get into the playoffs, i'd love it. As a basketball fan, you want to see the Lakers in the playoffs. A first round matchup of Lakers vs OKC will have ratings through the roof. Im not quite convinced yet, but im almost there. Kobe is finally being a true leader and his troops are responding. It seems as if on offense everybody is hsaring the ball (except Meeks and Jamison lol). This is starting to get very interesting.

same

The Lakers have been a tragic disappointment this season. I truly thought that they were gonna finish with a top 3 seed in the West this season. However, I have been impressed with how they have seemingly pulled together over the last week or so. They are not ready to throw the towel in!!! Kobe is re-inventing his game, much to my surprise and happiness. Dwight seems to have realized that crying and wining isn't going to accomplish anything. He is focusing on things that he can control and dominate (rebounding, protecting the rim, and finishing around the rim). The only guy that worries me is Gasol, he is clearly pissed about still coming off the bench, as much as I love Gasol and appreciate everything he brought to the Lakers organization, if the right deal comes across then the Lakers should look into moving him. You don't want someone in the Locker room who isn't committed to do anything to help the team win. I'm still not sure if Gasol is committed to helping the Lakers if it involves him coming off the bench.

Someone said it best,that

Someone said it best, that these guys have to look within themselves and make changes..Becuz you have the best sg in the nba,the best center,a top 10 pg,who also happens to be 1 of the league's premier passers & shooters and Gasol the most versatile pf in the league..If you can win with a lineup like that, you dont need a trade you need to quit......But i still think they'll be up & down the rest of season....

I don't want to see the

I don't want to see the Lakers in the playoffs. They are old and quite boring. They aren't going to go anywhere, and them winning a few games in a row and Kobe trying to reinvent himself as a passer is just silly. You REALLLLY think he will be putting up 16-12 type stats the rest of the year? C'mon. Its KOBE. He is going to end up taking a lot of shots the second they lose a game during this whole new passing craze of his. I know he is talented, but the Lakers have been bad for this entire season, and other teams will figure out how to force Kobe into taking more shots.
