I just think that it is insane how much talent ends up in the NBA from Illinois and the Chicago area specifically, and how none of it stays within the state. Check it out here…

    Thoughts?

has produced a ton of talent recently, even more so than usual. The topic of which area produces the best talent (the term area is subjective already) has been brought up tons of times on this site and Illinois is pretty much top 5 but not number 1 in terms of players who make it to the NBA. Now your posts deal mostly with collegic success which might be different.

    The problem is 2 fold:

    1. Chicago is recruited nationally and heavily. Every coach from every major conference keeps tabs on Chicago players which makes getting them to commit to you harder.

    2. There is no connection between Champaign and Chicago. There is no loyalty there. I’ve always wondered why there wasn’t loyalty to Depaul who is a hometown Chicago school in a major conference. Keep this in mind, it is a 135 mile trip from Chicago to Champaign. That’s a drive of over 2 hours.

Don’t get too down. DePaul had "locked" up Eddy Curry over every major program battling for his services, if he had never made the jump.

The last McDonald’s All-American to enroll there was Andre Brown, who happened to have a quiet career there for his billing.

I agree with that. It just surprises me that UIC or DePaul doesn’t take a shot at some of the lesser-known guys considering they have their eyes on them the most.

Yeah, Illinois and DePaul have stopped being basketball powerhouses, and all the top stars leave the state.

I don’t know what the reason for this is, when it comes to top stars, i.e. Rose, Davis, Parker, Okafor, etc, I understand Calipari and K have begun to own those level of players. But start looking at guys like Paul White and Fred Van Vleet, as well as Jalen Brunson this next year, they are all solid players who have chosen to leave the state.

A guy nobody remembers is Justin Dentmon who is from Carbondale, went to University of Washington – and was a mainstay for us for 4 years then played for the Spurs and Raptors for a hot minute.

    Excellent competitor

Jacob Pullen had a great college career too.

The last truely great U of I recruiting class I can remember was Rich McBride and Brian Randle (who were both top 5 Illinois players).

Since then they have just been getting the midrange Illinois guys. Groce needs to give Robert Smith a job and then pay Jerrance Howard double whatever he is getting at KU.

That’s what I like to call being blessed with a scorer’s/shooter’s inheritance.

Me and my Brother always talk about Chicago and Seattle players and the talent there. Chicago, despite having players always getting injured, they have loads of talent.. IDK why Depaul does not gross players. But I know its "Depaul" its not UK KU AZ or UCLA to name a few, it does not have the name. They have Marcus Lovett now, even tho hes from Cali, I doubt he stays in Illinois

Lovett is either going to St. Johns or Illinois.

DePaul’s biggest problem is facilities. They are terrible, unlike other universities basketball despite being a revenue generating sport basically gets the same stuff all the non-revenue generating sports get. Also, they have played their games in the AllState Arena, a stadium miles away from campus in the suburb of Rosemont. Impossible for students to go to games. They are moving to a new stadium downtown, but it is not going to be any more convinient for students and is also nowhere near campus. Bad decision makers all around.

Is spot on with the facilities at DePaul.  They need a 8-10 thousand seat arena in or very near campus rather than shipping them out to Rosemont to play.  Any college who wants Chicago kids needs the in roads to the Chicago AAU circuit.  The best player in IL this year is going to Villanova.  How does this happen?
