Vivid5292ParticipantTaking note of his back to back triple-doubles from someone esle’s post, its always good to look at players who names aren’t Lebron James, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, etc. How underrated or underappreciated is a player like Andre Iguodala in this league? We mention how he is not in the category of players how should be considered a superstar, let alone an all-star. Yet, he comes in every season and provides for a sixers team that really has no one to lead them. Although he’s injured a lot, we can’t overlook what he does when he is actually on the floor. Like someone mentioned in the post before, he is our modern day Scottie Pippen and I believe he can embody that more if he didn’t have to be the 1st option on his team. I believe he’s better as a 2nd option and would help a team win a championship and/or multiple ones because of his intangibles. In hopes that he leaves the Sixers, what other player in the league would Iggy work well being next too besides Kobe Bryant? And what do you guys Iggy’s stats look like being next to that player? Or do you agree or disagree that he is underrated and why?

I May Be WrongParticipantlet’s not get carried away. I wouldn’t say he’s underrated. Maybe just underachieving (he did get almost a max deal) People who pay attention know that he’s an above average player. He can defend, he’s a freak of nature, he can handle and looks for teammates and is pretty quick. His main knock is not being able to hit a consistent jumpshot and that makes him under the radar for philly. He’s so versatile, he can work with a lot of people
Put him next to a player who wants the ball late like a Melo or CP3 or Deron Williams or Derrick Rose or even Monta Ellis and this guy will flourish as the second guy. With those guys, he’d probably be an 18, 6 and 6 guy AND with a higher FG%

HitsterParticipantIggy’s scoring has dropped off this year but so has the rest of the 76er’s as Coach Collins has put his system into action. After being a lottery team last year they have gone back above .500 this year so have started to turn the corner. I fully agree that Iggy should not be seen as the main star on the team but as a great 2nd option, it was a pity that Philly never got him when AI was at his peak as that combo may have taken them closer to that elusive title.
Back to back triple doubles are fairly rare so full plaudits to Iggy in achieving this.

omphalosParticipantDre and the Sixers remind me of Denver East; no legitimate star players, but a very deep team of above average role players.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantgreat mention about how iggy would flourish being the 2nd guy aka scottie pippen role hes one of the best lockdown defenders in the world as he showed at the worlds really good passer for a 2 guard and rebounds at high level for a 2 guard as well and another great mention that turner was a wasted pick imagine big dmc and iggy together nice it would be very nice

HitsterParticipantI think the idea was that Iggy and Turner played the SG/SF roles in tandem but Turner is a similar type player to Iggy so I do wonder if they can flourish together. Cousins has had issues this year but looks to be a frontcourt monster at other times so if they had drafted him then he could have worked out there. Rod Thorn, Ed Stefanski and Coach Collins have a lot of experience so could have nurtured him and Elton Brand would have been a good mentor for him. Coach Collins has got Elton Brand to be more efficient again this year and with Cousins alongside him could have given him an extra spring.

GrandmamaParticipantMy favorite player in the league, but no I don’t think he is underrated. He isn’t a number one option and won’t carry a team to a championship as the number one guy. He’s a great player, but he is more of a number two option and a lock down defender. I can see the parallels you guys are drawing with Scottie Pippen, but don’t get confused. Pippen is head and shoulders above Iguodala. Iguodala is a great defender, but Pippen is arguably the best defensive player ever. Iguodala has a great skill set, but Pippen was clearly an all-around better player as well as being a better scorer.
No, Iguodala isn’t underrated. He’s a great number two option as almost everyone sees, but is too inconsistent to lead a franchise as the number one.

4th dimensionHe’s not underrated. For a guy as talented as he is, he should be averaging more than 15PPG this year. I would even call him an under-achiever, he should be a perennial 20PPG every year.

BKKnicksfanParticipantI feel Iguodala is a top 35 guy, possibly top 30.
He’s more a #3 option on a good team. He doesn’t score enough to be considered a second option, but passes, rebounds and defends well enough. His contract and stats would tell you he’s overpaid, but his live play would say he’s underrated.
