Igor Christian Ibaka Kabasele (Brazzaville, República del Congo) integra la plantilla del Sant Nicolau de Sabadell, uno de los equipos vinculados al Club de Basquet Manresa. Cuenta con 19 años (nació el 30 de julio de 1992), mide dos metros raspados y dicen los entendidos que sus hechuras son las de un pívot puro. Figuraría como uno más de los jugadores de los equipos de las categorías inferiores si no fuese porque es hermano del NBA Serge, que triunfa con la selección española y los Oklahoma City Thunder. No es que este dato le proporcione un pasaporte al profesionalismo, pero al menos da idea de que dispone de unos buenos genes.
El Manresa, un club que necesita sacar jugadores de debajo de las piedras, le tiene en la cantera como una de sus opciones de futuro. ¡Ojalá saliese como su hermano!, suspiran en el club del Bagés. Ambos llegaron juntos en 2008. Pero Serge, además de ser mayor, destacó muy pronto. Ahí había pura dinamita. Igor se ha ido desarrollando después, pero no es tan explosivo como su hermano y mide unos pocos centímetros menos. Eso sí, es fuerte y rocoso.
Pretemporadas
El Manresa le incluye en las pretemporadas del primer equipo, en algunos entrenamientos y de forma esporádica viaja con la plantilla. De momento, no ha contado con minutos de juego, pero en la entidad del Nou Congost no piensan desaprovechar un elemento de dos metros y trata que se vaya formando.
Igor Ibaka es el sexto jugador en la rotación del Sant Nicolau del Grupo C de la Liga EBA donde promedia 4,9 puntos y 6,6 rebotes, con 8,3 de valoración en los casi 19 minutos que disputa por partido. El equipo se clasifica en la segunda posición de su lote. Es probable, por tanto, que tras la fase regular pueda clasificarse para la promoción de ascenso.
Ahora no se sabe muy bien si el futuro de Igor estará ligado a una canasta o no. Lo que parece claro es que se ha hecho un hueco en la vida catalana. Apenas habla castellano; se maneja en catalán perfectamente y vive en la casa de un directivo del Manresa casi desde que aterrizó por la localidad del Bagés.
