torontoraptors10ParticipantMajority of humanity is stupid. You just gotta face it and accept it, there is nothing you can do to change an ignorant mind.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantThere’s a reason why that saying is so good. Ignore the comments, and you will be infinitely happier. Haha

NarcParticipantIts like you said its ignorance. And they think its ok because they can hide behind their computers and do it. And I say this as a human being not just as a black man, that I think its absolutely deplorable that these people deride this kid just because he has a gift. Because he is athletic and is good at something (unlike most of the idiots that were making those comments) they have to find fault because he is receiving attention for it.

akhan786ParticipantI just read a comment that said he was "too cocky…too stupid…in jail 5 years…guaranteed!!"
I know that I shouldn’t let this affect me but this just pisses me off so much.
Besides how can you tell the intelligence of a young man from a highlight video? Are you serious? (Although he does sound eloquent in his interviews)
I really hope he comes to Duke (he probably won’t) but I will not spat out racial comments amount him just because he didn’t go to MY favorite school as if I owned him and he’s just there for my entertainment.
Gah I just hope that he gets to fulfill his dreams and shows that in five years that he’ll be making more money than all of us!

OhCanada-ParticipantI think racist people and even common people use their race and culture as pride to help fill holes within their character and block some painful insecurities. The difference is it is fine to have cultural pride from where you are and who your ancestors are, although it is wrong to discriminate against other cultures and even to compare cultures with a negative mentality. People who are racist also like to generalize race within a single group due to actions an individual from that race has made which effected the racist person negatively. Also the way your family brings you up has alot to do with it, you cant blame a child for having racist beliefs installed within him if they have been pounded into that childs brain by the people who feed and care for him/her.

Soulrebel15ParticipantI don’t know why you’re surprised it’s yahoo, the kind asinine comments people make regardless of the topic is mind blowing. Its amazing the kind of racist keyboard warrior comments people make.

NarcParticipant"People who are racist also like to generalize race within a single group due to actions an individual from that race has made which effected the racist person negatively"
Couldn’t have said that any better. Stereotyping is just plain dumb. And the sad thing is that some people do it all the time and think its acceptable, and worse, normal.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/03/2011 - 5:11pm #528120
OhCanada-ParticipantWell thats just it Narc its sad…The funny thing is a rascist person can have rascist beliefs for a person and still love them like a brother. My father is latin and my mother is black. some people within the latin side of my familu are rascist towards black people yet still care about me as famly comes first, its hard to understand but at the same time should be alot easier. The fact is they need help, this is a burden they live with, a burden of fear and consensus belief. One person from a race does something wrong to them then it is a burden they hold for their lives, and a burden they pass onto their family as well.

OhCanada-ParticipantDont be mad just feel sorry for them, anyways I would like to see a rascist persons perspective on these comemnts and how they would think. Lets spice things up a bit!

NarcParticipantYou don’t think that its not by design in some cases? Minorities are picked on sometimes. I’m not saying that all minorities are these opressed people, of course that’s not the case. Another thing to note that most people now are not locked up for violent crime, drug offenses for something as small as marajuana plays a big part (The US isn’t very forgiving towards first time drug offenders).

stu·pid (stpd, sty-)
adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.I am tired of the overuse of the word ignorant. There is enough information out there that people are rarely ignorant about race and it is time to focus on calling them what they are and that is stupid. You can educate ignorant people to some degree but you can’t really do much about stupid lol.(but seriously)

OhCanada-ParticipantKavak now follow up that graph with the majority of people within those 3 races that live in poor areas, and the majority of criminals that come from poor areas. You will see criminals and criminal activites are classed by wealth not race. It just so happens that in North America african americans have been for the most part relegated to poor living conditions which puts them in the lead for that statistic.

13kavakrace is not or never was supposed to used as a trump card to be played when convienent. you want to be looked at as equal FINE throw out the laws trying to MAKE things equal, let people stand upon their own merit. if I was in position to hire someone i may not hire a black person, I may not hire a white person either but dont tell me who I have to hire because as long as race is allowed to be used as a trump card things will never be equal. people are prejudiced naturally for every white person who dislikes blacks there is a black person who dislikes whites, they just dont scream it as loudly or no one is listening. the comment that was made about purvis was wrong because no one knows who the future criminals will be. I personally have feelings that would be considered racist but I also have been the victim or racism many times in my life. I dont want anyones culture forced down my neck but I understand I am not in control of society and cannot control what is popular nor would I desire too. intelligence is being able to support two opposing viewpoints at one time, I know my feelings about race are not always true but I also know what my personal feelings are. if I meet two people of a race that are kind and supportive and 100 that would love to beat me to a pulp do I really have to experience the 100 just too get to the two good ones, sorry I would much rather avoid that. it is worth mentioning I have aspergers a form of autism and I look at humanity as a whole in a negative light I am misanthropic, I practice equal opportunity hate and try to avoid people as much as I can, that being said I also know unfortunately that theyre are some races I do feel more negatively about, although I have met some very kind good hearted people from this race as well.

NarcParticipantThe comment made about Purvis was wrong not because no one knows who future criminals will be. Its wrong because they don’t know that kid well enough to make an assumption like that. Calling him an ignorant monkey basically etches it in stone that the comments were made because of his race.

13kavakhaving a significantly higher crime rate than the rest of the country, but economics obviously is a factor but its only one factor.culture is and has been always criminally neglected as a perspective, take c-rap as an influence I am well aware that a few artists approach it intelligently and use it as a political forum but the most popular form of it too my knowledge has always been gangster rap . I know this is because this is what people relate too but people should also be able to relate to hopes and dreams, and that dream should not be who do I want to shoot today.

sheltwon3ParticipantThere are lot of factors that determine who is locked up but that does not give anyone the right to base anything on you by looking at the worst your race has done. You could do that against any race or ethnicity.

13kavakwhite christians have persecuted more than their fair share of people. I only judge things from personal experience, and for what its worth I am for the legalization of every drug, so they can be taxed and controlled for the safety of their users better. I also am aware that up to 20 percent of the population in prison may not belong their and race can be a factor in conviction.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/03/2011 - 5:51pm #528142
NarcParticipantRap does influence, but the impact of those negative stories is nothing more than stories sensationalized by media outlets to garner ratings and such. Plus the south has higher crime rates due to lax gun laws, not economic down turns. Areas like Detroit and New Orleans have the highest murder rates because of economic down turns. Its not the south really, if anything its the midwest because of the failing auto industry.

sheltwon3ParticipantHeavy Metal and other music types over the time has also put out material that could be considered dangerous and misleading to youths. I hate when people focus on one type of music when all types of music except a few have negative concepts in them.
