Turns out Harden made it over Gordon because of his ability to come off of the bench and the fact they were able to watch him all season, compared to Gordon being out with the knee injury.
This is probably the first time he's ever been cut. Hope he uses it as motivation heading into the season.
I agree, I don't think it's a matter of who is better, because I'm expecting all-star numbers from Ej this season, but like you said Harden is used to being a peice of the puzzle off the bench instead of being the man. If Westbrook hadn't been there to take Wade's spot though, I could have seen Eric playing the role of instant offense combo guard. Instead, they go for the lockeroom glue guys in Iggy and Harden.
BTW, I was thinking earlier about the fact that it is FIBA and how Odom actually managed to play the center position well in 2010, could you see K going with a lineup having LBJ running the 5 with his length, strength, and athleticism? I'd guess it would probably be so that they can have Paul,Kobe,KD,Melo, and Bron on the floor together.
It wouldn't surprise me to see this lineup to close games:
C - LeBron
PF - Melo
SF - KD
SG - Kobe
PG - Paul
Or you could even put KD at the power forward, Kobe at small forward and then move D-Will in the backcourt with Paul.
I think EJ not making it is bs.
He came off of the bench and accepted his role just fine in 2010. When LeBron, Kobe, Wade, etc didn't want to play in Turkey, he played a big role and helped his country bring home gold. He was the fourth leading scorer and second best long range shooter behind KD.
Surprised they went with Harden over him. They said they thought Harden deserved it over him, but I don't see how that is when he has already paid his dues.
Gordon should've made it over Harden. Maybe he's not 100 percent yet, but something tells me that their just going w/ the big name.
And what is the point of Griffin? He probably wont see the floor and we dont need offense. We need another defensive big. I'm sure Nike had nothing to do with this.
Where is the evidence "EJ" is better than Harden? Harden just competed through a super competitive NBA playoffs, and a Finals. EJ Hasn't even played for a winning team yet. Close call? Sure. BS? Give me a break...
I don't think anybody said EJ was better. It's honestly a wash. Yea, he hasn't been on a playoff team, but he also hasn't had KD as a teammate. You can't tell me that he wouldn't be as effective in OKC as Harden.
I personally thought he would get the nod because he already paid his dues back in 2010. They're more familiar with his game and have seen what he can do in FIBA play.
It's clear him not playing majority of this season and his contract situation kept him off of this team.
I didn't say Gordon was better than Harden as an NBA player (although it is debatable), but he's a better fit for team USA and deserved it more IMO.
Hope part of the reason he got left off is because of how he whined about the Hornets. Also, just a thought, EJ is a bit of injury risk isn't.. Honestly I don't think picking either would have been bad, I just don't like players who whine.
Agreed, it is BS. Definitely politics IMO. Too many people riding the Harden wave. He's a bit overrated ,but, oh well. I suppose what's done is done. Like you said, that's just more fuel to the fire.
Harden is overrated IMO, everyone talks about Sessions being exposed by Westbrook, but nobody wants to comment on the fact that against Mia and Wade, Harden was surely exposed.
Dude how the hell do you know? Were you at the scrimmages watching the games? If Harden made it there is a reason for it, he is extremely unselfish and probably played better with the superstars than Gordon. Just coz he is from Indiana doesn't give him a divine right to be on the team.
Is this directed at me?
I've never posted anything about him making it just because he's from Indiana. I've only posted I thought his game was a great fit in FIBA and he played well in the 2010 World Championships. He was their 4th leading scorer and second best shooter behind KD. Not only that, Coach K gave him the green light to shoot whenever he wanted. I thought he'd paid his dues to be on this team, especially with D. Wade sitting out.
I thought he'd have the edge over a guy who hasn't played FIBA ball.
Aggravated much? ^^^
You probably could have just used caps lock and got your point across just as well lol.
Coming off a season long injury isn't always an easy transition. I highly doubt harden was selected because he is a bigger name. He ain't that big a name. He probably just outplayed eg in the practices.
I feel Rudy Gay should have made the team he had a nice showing for Team USA last time and showed that he can play PF at the international level.
Why was Demarcus Cousins not even a candidate to be on the team? They have a huge need for another big and Cousins brings talent scoring in the post.
As Indiana and I were mentioning earlier, the team may be confident that LBJ can play some minutes at the 5 as well as Blake.
Coach also likes Melo at the 5 from when he went on his run in April and defended 4's well as you know international game isn't really about pure size like the NBA game
I liked harden less and less everytime i watched him play.. dudes defense is flopping hoping for a call...not gonna work internationally...
@buckeyefan They said he has to mature and grow up before even being considered
As far as James over eric.. I cant debate it even though I think Eric is a better player..
Griffin over gay? ehhh......
Is it just me or the selection show is corny as hell with that heroic music and stuff?
they need to play durant and lebron together in the forward spots.... and we already won gold
