If the Timberwolves win the lottery
What do you think the Timberwolves will do if the win the lottery. Wall has been the consensus #1 pick for quite some time now but they already have flynn, sessions, and rubio still. If they pick Wall who do you think they will get rid of. Or do you guys think they may draft turner as so many see him as a perfect fit
I think Flynn will be on his way home to the Knicks if David Lee is cool with playing with the Twolves which I doubt, but Flynn could also be a candidate for the Lakers for Shannon Brown and Luke
Flynn would probably stay, but Rubio would be on the way out if Lee was to be cool with playing for the T'Wolves. He's not going to be though.
If the T'Wolves win the lotto, they should either pick Evan Turner or trade with a team down to a team that wants John Wall (if possible) and get Evan Turner.
the wolves need to rebiuld. so if they win the 1st pick, they can trade down, possibly pick up some key players, and keep rebuilding if so
Yikes, that'd suck for the Wolves. I really think they should trade down if they get the first pick. Haven't they been needing a slasher for the longest of time? Well Mr. Evan Turner could be the answer...Heck maybe even Wes Johnson, but I rather have Turner. Lee to Minny? Love, Jefferson, & Lee?! Dang. They'd have so many PG's & PF's haha.
If the Twolves win the lottery this could be thier starting lineup next year
If the Wolves do sign Brown Flynn is much better, hes a way better scorer, and passer, even though hes not a great fit in the triangle so Brown would be on the bench.
Evan Turner... he's good enough to be #1
If they were to get the first pick, they shouldn't trade down, they should just draft John Wall. To me it seems John Wall's abilities and potential are more of a sure-thing than that of Jonny Flynn or Ricky Rubio. I'd trade the rights to Rubio since it seems a lot of teams have an interest in him, even moreso now since his team just beat Olympiakos in the Euroleague Finals.
I live in Minny and have been fortunate enough to be a guest at some of these Timberwolf fan meetings, and David Kahn has pretty much said they're taking Wall and trading Rubio if they end up having to select #1. They really do not want to pick #1 because Kahn truly believes Rubio will be a Timberwolf and that he and Wall aren't that far apart in how high their ceilings are, he does admit though that Wall will be a guaranteed superstar at the next level, he specifically said Gary Payton meets Dwyane Wade, but that Rubio is a Jason Kidd type of PG, called them 1a and 1b in terms of star potential. As I've stated on here before, the Wolves are going to look like a completely different team next season, don't expect more than 5 or 6 guys back at the most from this previous season.
Their number one goal in this Draft is to get Turner, they regret last season's Draft where they had the chance to move up and get Tyreke for Flynn and the selection of James Johnson at #18, but that they didn't work hard enough to move ahead of Chicago and take Johnson. They've said numerous times in the meetings that they need a perimeter scorer that can create his own shot when ball movement breaks down in the Triangle, they feel that guy is Turner.
If for some reason they're not able to trade up for Turner their next option is Favors. They really like Cousins, but don't feel he would blossom enough to meet expecations with the young teams they're going to put out on the court the next couple of seasons. They honestly feel he will not meet expectations with his first team, but will be a dominating force on his second team. They like Favors because they feel he will be that Amare-esque Pick and Roll guy to Rubio.
If for some reason the basketball gods (David Stern) smile on the Wolves and they're able to select Turner with their own selection, expect another trade from them to get back into the Top 10 for somebody like Wes Johnson, Favors, Davis, or Aminu, using the Charlotte and/or Utah Pick, Sessions, or Love. Don't expect Love to be back next season, he's a good player, but his best fit is on a team with interchangeable athletes at the 4/5 spot like Washington with McGee and Blatche, plus you know Flip loves guys that can shoot, believe me I'm from MN, the Wolves were almost always last in FTAs during his reign.
Expect our boy Darko to stay though, Rambis feels he can make something out of him, as did every other coach before him. Brewer stays, he showed some potential this last season, Jefferson too, his cap number is just too big and won't bring back anything other than Luol Deng, who the Wolves feel is even more overpaid than Jefferson. There was an interview with new Asst. GM Tony Ronzone a few days ago where he had stated they were working on negotating a buyout with Nikola Pekovic and that Rubio could possibly be coming over this next season depending on what kind of Team President Barca hires and if they win the Championship.
They also feel Flynn will much be better once they surround him with some talent on the wing, they feel he obviously didn't have the season Jennings and Curry had, but that he wasn't given the offensive freedom they had either. Not sure on the Pekovic deal either, from what I've heard it sounds like it's more likely he's used in a trade to acquire more athletic talent, or who the Wolves feel with tailor to Rubio's talents. Besides Turner, the one other main aspect they want to focus on is acquiring talent with length, quickness, and athleticism at the 3/4/5 spots. Remember, they want to do this like OKC, to develop a core of players to build from. Here are examples of some of those players we've all mentioned at these meetings, we didn't feel Aldrich would be very useful in an uptempo offense, but that he will be a starting C for a long time, not sure with Alabi in that regard too, remember they're trying to build a "core" so these are all younger guys:
In a perfect world where the Wolves are able to select Turner outright and trade Love for the Wizards pick (5-7) while keeping the Charlotte and Utah picks, outside of Wall, Turner, Cousins, Favors, Johnson, and maybe Monroe, who would you take over Love if he were in this Draft? Like I said above, he would best utilized on a team he where they have two athletes already in place who can play both the 4 and 5 like the Wizards.
PG: Jonny Flynn/Ramon Sessions
SG: Evan Turner/Wayne Ellington
SF: Corey Brewer/Damion James
PF: Al Jefferson/Greg Monroe
C: Darko Milicic/Larry Sanders/Ryan Hollins
They can also release Ryan Gomes to save an additional $4M, which would put them at roughly $15 in cap room still to be used, and Rubio most likely coming over the following season.
DNYCE your laker fantasies always amuse me. No way Minny trades Flynn for Brown and Luke.
As for what I think Minny would do....
Well Kahn has stated that he looks to pick up assets. If that holds true, then he needs to take Wall and then look to ship someone or some people off. I think they should take Turner, but my gut tells me he will go for the hype and player that will drive a greater market, which surely is Wall. I expect to see the Wolves make a ton of moves this offseason, moving either Big Al or K Love, and then possibly moving 1 or multiple PGs. I see us making a strong push for either Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay as well. Don't know if we wind up with either of them, but Kahn is def. going to make some moves to put this team on the right path.
Don't expect the Wolves to go after Joe Johnson, they're looking to model themselves after the Thunder and build a core of younger players, not sure with Gay either, doesn't sound like they'd be willing to "max" him, which seems likely with the number of teams that have extensive cap room.
I believe I remember there being a report that the Wolves already stated they will be willing to give Gay a max contract.
I agree with you on Joe Johnson though. I didn't ever really think we would go after him, or if he would be available for that matter. But, from the looks of things, he seems to want to move out of the ATL and if we don't get players we really want, I could see us looking at Johnson if the price is right.
I don't remember any such article, but I like Gay, I'm just not willing to put the team's future on the line for him, he is good though, somebody will give him a ton of $, it just won't be the Wolves, Kahn would laugh reading that article, no way in hell.
Yea I don't think anyone in this league is worth a max contract other than LBJ, Kobe, Durant, and maybe Wade. Its a recession and yet sports teams in all leagues continue to spend dough on players like their damn strippers.
Don't take this the wrong way, but do you live in MN? I'm just asking because Kahn has been pretty public with what he wants to do in regards to building a team, and the last thing on his mind is giving a huge contract to a player like Joe Johnson, he doesn't fit that same repetitive statement from him about building a core of young players to build from. This information was not taken out of my fan meetings with him and the Mayor, but rather in all of his letters to the fans this year. They're quite interesting as is the fan meetings, but don't expect them to overpay for anybody, especially guys looking for pay days in this historical off season, JJ will get "maxed", guaranteed. Expect them to make many trade calls to possibly take on younger players that teams need to lose because they need the money to sign another player, like Miami and Beasley, especially with a huge trade chip in Ryan Gomes, who can be released before June 30th and owed nothing. This has also been stated many times, they will not be a player in the FA market this year, just a possible trade destination for teams that need to get further under the cap. You've got to check those letters out, you've also got to check the local Twin Cities papers out, not the Yahoo Sports or one of those national media outlets, they're always lookng to sensationalize everything. If you're not from MN, thanks, we definitely appreciate our fan base across the country, check out Canis Hoopus too, tons of good stuff on there too, most were in the meetings too.
i think minnesota needs to decide whether they want love and jefferson together or if they should trade love to the wizards for their 1st round pick
Nah, I'm from Philly. But I do stay up to date on the Wolves, been raised as a fan of them.
I said I agree with you though on Johnson. He doesn't fit what we want to do as far as building a strong franchise like OKC has done. But I think for the right price we might look at him depending on who we bring in this offseason. I think its not probable by any means, but I mean Boston went from damn near last place to 1st by having a huge offseason. We have a ton of assets and I will be interested in seeing what direction we take this offseason. Personally I agree with you and would rather see us put together a strong group of youthful talents as opposed to trying to bring in a bunch of talented vets who will be around for 3-4 years. I honestly think if we do that we wouldn't be able to take out teams like Orlando, Cavs, LA, what have you. I'd rather see us continue to build and eventually in like 3 or 4 years have a team who can contend for the next 5.
Oh and I get most of my info from Star Tribune. One of my fav papers. Huge Vikes and Twins fan too so its a great source for everything Minny.
I'm from minnesota, and I do remember there being an article on Rudy Gay and Kahn saying he liked Gay (stop and laugh for a moment),,,it was also on the Espn rumor stuff that we were looking at Gay as a potential target but I dont know how much to read into that,
I've also heard rumors about Danny Granger during the season. I dont know how realistic those are but if that were to happen I'd be all for it. Granger is a heck of a player who could definitley give us a building piece.
I have heard just about everybody is on the trade block, but Kahn has also said that he isnt looking at trading Rubio, Flynn, and Love...I wouldnt be suprised to see any or all of them traded, but as of right now, it just seems like a crapshoot. I do think we have alot of assets that could garner some solid talent, who knows what we'll do with it. Cuz right now it just seems like we have alot of assets...not really good players that fit together on the same team.
In terms of the draft...I hope we get Wall or Turner. With our luck we'll get the 5th pick and end up with a guy like Wes Johnson...who would be decent, but nothing like Turner or Wall.
If we move back into the lottery, I really hope it is for Monroe, because I really am not high on any of those other PFs like Davis, Favors, or Whiteside, but thats just me.
Either way, it should be a busy offseason for the T pups...lets hope they take steps forward with the team.
Just saying there was never an article where Kahn said he would give Gay a max contract.
Yes,I remember there was articles that Kahn likes Gay but never read any thing about the price
as for the thread this will be actually a good thing and will give them a lot of options
1-They can trade Wall for the 2nd pick and may be get something else
2-They can Draft Wall and Trade him with his great Value
3-They can just Trade Rubio,May be for another top 5 pick
4-They can draft Wall and try to make Wall+Rubio works
in other words This will be great for the Wolves,a fans go crazy when there teams get the first pick in any draft and some ppl are saying that one of the worst teams in the last few year will have a problem if they won the lottery with one of the most hypes 1st overall pick!!!!!!(and I am not talking about this message board only)
