If I was the GM of the Clippers here is what I would do
The first thing is that I would beg a guy like Byron Scot, Jeff Van Gundy, or Lawrence Frank to come and be my coach. These 3 can flat out coach. They are all proven and that is the first thing the Clipps need.
The next is that I would build my team around Blake, DJordan, and EGordan. Sorry but those 3 young guys should get better and better. EJ is a proven scorer and defender. HIs problem is that he doesn't get enough shots. BD and Kaman demand too many shots and neither play a lick of D. If they could some how get a DCuz, GMonroe, or Udoh in the draft then that could really help towards the future. Now granted they have a ton of cap room and could sign a 2nd level star but I'm not sure if that fixes them for the future.
The bench is experienced and they have some depth. Rasual Butler played the 3 and he is another that shoots a ton and doesn't play D. SBlake, CSmith, DGooden (FA), and Travis Outlaw are a good core group of bench players.
My first round pick would focus on hoping DCuz or Monroe slip. If not I would trade back and draft a guy like Udoh around 14 if you can. If not go back further and get a D Ebanks. A good rebounder and defender in which they need. Possibly pick up a few 2nd round picks and get a Scotty Reynolds and a Derrick Chacacter. DC, in my opinion will be a 2nd round stud.
Try and trade Kaman and BD to a contender. I don't think it will happen because of the amount of money they make. Cleveland would love to have Kaman as would Miami. So try and get an expiring and a pick for Kaman and go after Melo next year.
Finally the Clipps don't need anymore scorers if they don't unload Kaman and BD. They need defenders and rebounders.
Derrick Character and Craig Smith are something of the same mold. I'd rather like to see LAC grab a Sherron Collins who can handle the ball real well and shoot it from deep (similar to B Davis).
I think with there 8th pick they need move up or move down. They wont get Wesley Johnson at 8. I dont think Aminu is good fit for them. 8th pick is also to high for Babbitt and George.
I dont see any team reaching for kaman and Davis. Contracts for them would be difficult for contenders to take on because many contenders are at the cap or above it. I think they should keep there core and finda way to move up for Johnson or move down and take George or babbitt.
they may want the 8th pick too...what do u think....u need a SF that can defend and slash...Philly needs a Center....Also Brand Could be revitalized by the Kaman addition...they worked well before...Either way with the 8th pick they can take Babbit to help Thad and Brand and Speights at the 3 and 4 spot...They will take Turner in that scenario with the 2nd pick...
No one wants BD's contract, but maybe can swap for a long term deal likes Turkoglu's.
If you trade Kaman who is your starting Center, Jordan is he ready to start full time.
If they still had Camby that would make more sense, teams trading away big men for nothing just stupid.
Randolph, Camby and now Kaman you want gone if you ever want to win anything esp. in the West need quality bigs. Carmello will most likely resign with the Nuggs he likes it there it seems.
i thinhk its incredibly stupid to trade the best person on their team last year in chris kaman... he is the perfect center to play next to griffin and he is relatively young..
We should all know by now that scarecrow wants every player in the nba traded to another team.
The Clippers will keep the 8th pick and draft Paul George.
Why draft George 8th i think could trade down to 10 and get him. I know only2 spots but they could neta late 2nd round pick maybe.
If I was the Clippers, here's what I would do.
-Trade Baron Davis and Craig Smith to Indiana for the 10th pick, Troy Murphy and Brandon Rush. This gives the Clippers another role player and draft pick. Indiana now gets the role player PF to allow Hansbrough to start and they get a PG who shows up when motivated.
- Talk to the Hornets, offer the 8th pick outright for Darren Collison. With a team with Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman and the 10th overall pick, you need a pass first PG. I feel Collison is a strong scorer but he's a good passer who could have good numbers around all that talent.
- Draft Paul George with the 10th pick. Paul George is a monster. I say you could add a potential superstar in George who could help in his rookie season as a 7th man.
- Joe Johnson the max? Yea. I feel Joe Johnson is the best fit for LAC. He could play the 3 position and still be a point forward in terms of his passing ability
Collison- Gordon- Johnson- Griffin- Kaman
George- Murphy- Rush
Joe Johnson and Eric Gordon are the same type of player w EJ being a better defender. Brandon Rush is a poor man's EJ and the Clipps don't need a 2. They need a point and a 3. I'm not sold on Paul George. He could be a great NBA player but having watched him play I think he's a few years away.
I agree about having a quality big man but Kaman is just a a scoring threat. He doesn't even rebound that well. At 7 feet and some what mobile he should be able to average 9+ boards a game and doesn't. His defense is terrible.
The DC and Craig Smith comparison is true but DC is much younger, better passer and has better post moves. Plus if you are going to keep Kaman you need to get as many rebounders as possible around him.
Hornets wont take it they want more than a pick
The Jazz could take George at #9, since he'll be light years better than any big man available at that spot and the Jazz need a legit starter at SF. Not CJ Miles who's backup material.
If the Clippers want George, just take him at #8.
Anybody between #8-60 could drop, but don't pass on the guy you want just because you think he might drop when he might not.
Well then 8th pick and 2011 1st rounder then for Collison and 2011 and 2012 2nd rounders.
If I were the Clippers GM I would do any of the following
1) Contemplate killing myself
2) Wishing Donald Sterling wasn't my boss
3) Wishing I was the GM of the better LA team
