The ideal New York Knicks off season
So the Hornets would trade Paul and Okafor, for Knight, Fields, Turiaf and 3 million? In your dreams. If the Knicks want a PG like DWill or Chris Paul then the best thing to do is let Billups go and then use extra money from his contract to sign one of the two. If you try to trade for them, then it won't work because the Knicks basically gave up all of their trade assets for Melo.
The ideal off season would have been to hold fire on Melo and then get him as a FA or via an S and T on draft night. His contract was still on the table until 30th June so Denver would surely have done a deal then rather than get nothing and the Knicks would have given away less.
Seriously they need a mobile defensive C, scoring not really required for MLE and maybe a quality veteran minimum or two along with drafting the most NBA ready player they can find with their first rounder to give extra depth.
Seems like you fixed a lot of the concerns the Knicks had. You added some depth, defense and an all star point guard. I think this has to be a DREAM scenario though. An ideal situation would be one that you would like to come true and it would be possible. You are asking for divine intervention.
Minus 1.
So a more realistic off season would be targeting an athletic defensive centre.
think Tyson Chandler or Deandre Jordan.
then fill spaces. like back up power forward and another swingman who can defend and shoot.
also if posible, chauncey could be declined and resigned to a more cap friendly deal.
Instead of 14 mil for next year, 6 or 7 mil over 3 years.
offseason would be getting a center who can bring toughness, rebounding, shot blocking, intimidation and low post D. i would wante samuel dale, bert
i dont think were getting cp3 so i think TD can run things next year but we have to get a veteren pg to back him up. this is assuming we dont resign chauncey. delonte west could be a very nice back up.
adding depth at the 2,4and 5 would be next. so jeff foster, chuck hayes and either nick young/jr smith/aran aflalo(dont think denver is ganna sign both of them with kmart and chandler as FA)
resign willaims
the most important thing would be getting chemistry right with melo and amare
so something like this
douglass/west
fields/(one of he sg i said above)
melo/williams
amare/chuck hayes
dalenbert/foster
this team might now work with dantoni but idc cuz he sucks and i want him fired. we are neve ganna win with him so why not fire him.
I was reading over a forum that attempted to look for trade scenarios that made sense for both teams. One I saw that looked to most intriguing was a deal with the Rockets. The Knicks would deal Chauncey Billups for a sign and trade deal with Yao Ming. There were also some throw-ins like Turiaf and Terrence Williams/Thabeet. The Knicks would then use their first round pick on Brandon Knight, Josh Selby, or Kemba Walker.
This is unlikely, but would make sense...The Knicks would get a Center that would be an intimidating presence and help jump-start the break. The Rockets would get a veteran PG to teach the younger guys on their roster (Lowry, Dragic, possibly a pick) and give the Rockets a guy that could get them into the playoffs and has an expiring deal.
Of course the CBA remains to be seen.
The Knicks are in need of a Size and Chemistry.

In regards to Chauncey you would have to restructure his contract. This would be very competitive team and, if the contracts were done right, they would be in position to make a run at CP3 or Dwight Howard in 2012.

I just hope that the Denver trade does not affect the Knicks as negatively as the AI trade did Detroit a few years back. On paper Denver looked to have come off worse but Billups helped them reach a Conference Final whilst AI did nothing for Detroit.
Yao Ming could be a total FA wildcard as someone might make him an offer and unlike say Greg Oden he's a totally unrestricted FA. Ming in the Garden would be a marketing dream opening up the Knicks to all the Chinese audience but I do wonder will he return given his ongoing injury issues.
Fully agree that Sam Dalambert would be an excellent signing for the Knicks also maybe target one of AK47,Battier or Prince to give options at SF/PF around STAT and Melo to provide extra defence and experience. Also if they do play STAT at C on occasion then one of the above can slip into PF and AK47 can even play some SG arounds Fields. An MLE offer for any of them should be competitive.
