I’m making this post because recently I began to sour on D’angelo Russell (It had alot to do with him recording Nick Young and starting his career off in Byron Scott’s dog house)

I didn’t know if he could turn me around and make me a believer again (I was all in on Russell before the college season really hit full swing)

After last night’s game against Houston in their season opener, Russell drops 20 in a Win, what I really liked to see was him leading the Lakers in the huddle and becoming more vocal with his teammates

If the Lakers in that Locker room can forgive him for the transgression, I think it’s safe to say I can as a fan/Outside Observer

So in parting, he’s begun to turn the corner and may very well end up near the Top of the league’s Best PG’S list by the end of the Year…

Can the Lakers be successful this year on the strength of Luke Walton/Russell/Randle/Clarkson/Ingram and Company?

Is Russell going to break out this year and average more than 20 PPG?

Russell is very talented and he’s controlling more possessions this year m which has made him more comfortable on the floor. Waltons offense will allow everyone to get plenty of shots up especially D’angelo the problem lies on the defensive end. How many games can the Lakers win giving up 120 points a game. Russell can score and should average around 20 atleast but he will put up alot of empty numbers if they don’t get their defense together as a team.

To be fair, everything about the Rockets this year is made to score 120 a game. If they gave up that much to Sacramento (which they very well could), that would be different

This game was probably more about the Rockets defense.

They allowed 19 for 20 shooting at the rim last night. Ryan Anderson and Nene each allowed 11 made baskets at the rim.

I think a lot of players are going to have good games against the Rockets this year.

RUssel has to work on handling the ball against length though. He dribbles too high. He struggled bad against Ariza in the end.

I think Russell with have a really good individual season, maybe 18 ppg, 5.5 app. I actually think the Lakers will be in a losing battle for the 8th seed at the end. They have a good nucleus to build on, I think it depends on what kind of year Ingram and randle has. I personally think randle is going to break out this year but we’ll see.

I think Russell is definitely headed in the right direction, but his season is going to be very up & down. I like Randle though – he looks like he’s planning on kicking a little you know what night in and night out.

Mike D’antoni doesn’t care about defense.

I think he could avg 18ppg which is still a breakout for him. He needs to make sure he is mainly getting everyone involved. Would like to see him avg 8 assits a game. The team actually looks nicely spread out with the young pieces they have. Each one is in different positions. I like the minutes dispersment all the players had. Was a nice coaching job of a young team. I can see several guys have really good seasons. But they will still miss the playoffs by several spots.

I luv his shot, I luv his youthful enthusiasm.

But I am also realistic. There will be night when D’Lo puts up 40 points on electrifying high arcing 3’s – but I accept that whoever he is guarding will probably also score 40.

It is what it is – but at least we have some excitement back in Laker land
