I like the Lakers New Direction

Am I the only one that likes the hiring of Mike Dantoni? He reunites with Steve Nash who had his best years under him, the lakers will finally be able to get out and run which they should have been doing since the season started, and the pick and roll or pick and pop with Dwight and Pau will be absolutely lethal. You can't double any of their big men as the lakers still have some guy named Kobe Bryant. Phil Jackson would have been nice but the league is becoming a more up tempo league as last years finals featured the 2 best fast break teams in the league; and bringing Phil back would have gave him too much luxury and authority. The lakers will not struggle on defense as most people think they will seeing as New York couldn't defend anyone last year as they have 2 good perimeter defenders in Kobe and metta world war, and 2 excellent post defenders and shot blockers in Dwight and Pau. Looks like The lakers might take back their crown as the best team in Los Angeles from the deep Clippers

You are right on your own.

You are right on your own. But the thing is that the roster isn't really suited to up-tempo style. I really don't see how would the Lakers run all game long, when majority of their main players are over or well over 30 and they don't have that good of a bench to give starters rest.

But at the same time I have to agree with you, it definitely could work out. Nash and Howard pick and roll will be lethal, that's for sure. But then again, if they run, I'm quite sure that they won't win over Heat or Thunder which are outstanding fast pace teams on their own.

As sad it would be for me personnally ( because I'm a big fan of Pau ), I suppose there is a strong possibility that Gasol will be traded, to younger, more athletic big ala Shawn Marion back in the day. Talks about Josh Smith to LA will start again, huh ? Although I don't believe that Pau and Josh trade would happen without third team. Hawks are in rebuilding mode why should they take huge Gasol contract and Lakers don't have good picks to offer.

Josh would be a great fit but

Josh would be a great fit but it would take a miracle to get him. I think mike was the better choice because Phil's demands stemmed from more than just coaching, he wanted the final say on personnel moves, was looking to get paid about as much as he did before he retired(10 mil), and wasn't going to travel to away games which is absurd for a head coach only coaching half the games. I don't think they will run a lot but their will be a ton of pick and rolls, which will command a lot of attention from defenders and will give Kobe and metta wide open jumpers

old men

these old dudes can hardley make it up and down the court running the princtoon offense, what happens when he ask the to run?

guess he can rest them by using the bench, oh wait they don't have a bench!

they pick a coach that likes

they pick a coach that likes to run for a team that is too slow to run...let it alone that this team has been miserable on defense and now they get a coach that will only make their defense worse...WHAT?

but they have been playing better since mike brown's firing...they seem a bit more motivated to play. anyway as a lakers hater im glad they went with d'antoni cuz they are definitely not winning with him

Actually I think people are

Actually I think people are over blowing their age. They have been hurt. I think they need depth so they will not get worn out by the out and down play but it is dumb to say they can't do it when Kobe, Artest, and other already run the floor off of steals beating the defense. Their bench and lack of perimeter players is a bigger problem.

I agree with Buckets,

I agree with Buckets, D'antoni will do a good job. The reason they are getting beat on defense is not because they are old.....it is because they are committing turnovers.....they are committing turnovers because their offense isnt flowing, so they are " force feeding" the ball to D12. He needs to get the ball in transition, alley ops, or off of offensive rebounds,, not just pounding it into him down low.

I dont like the hiring.

I dont like the hiring. Granted, D'Antoni can put together a good regular season team. Also, some players will look much better in his offense. However, they will be found out before the 1st round of the Playoffs are over. I just dont believe he is the guy that can bring them another banner....especially not with the roster he has and who they will have to face come Playoff time.
