valentineI have decided to share my Mock Draft with everyone.
** I’ve factored in team need as much as I can.
** Feel free to talk as much trash as you like.
** Steals according to my mock include Murray (Jamal and Dejounte), Poeltl, Davis.
** Guys I have little-to-no faith in include Labissiere, Newman, Valentine, Diallo.
** Please don’t talk about "reaches"… I dont want to hear it. If a team thinks a player they really want will be gone before their next pick arrives…it’s not a "reach". They only get one chance to take him. If they don’t "reach", they end up with the player they dont want. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Let me know what you think? I’ll try to respond to individual comments as politely as I can.

ZouldiersParticipantYour mock draft is way different than others and I respect that. I have to disagree on some picks though. Skal won’t get drafted in the 2nd round as I don’t see teams in the late first round are going to pass up on him. I do agree that a lotto team will grab Thon Maker though just not sure if its going to be the Suns though. Where’s Wade Baldwin though? Well, that’s about it. Interesting mock draft to say the least.

Hype MachineCheers man. I’m gonna hit you up for seasons predictions when it comes to gambling at the start of next season though.
Honestly, I haven’t seen enough Wade Baldwin. The second round is tough…a lot of the time I was going on reputation and short youtube vids. He was at the top of that list of top prospects remaining that draftnet creates on the side of the "create your own mock" page.
I’m open to be proven wrong if he makes it in the L.

Hype MachineHaha, I love Ellis. He gives everything. He’s the kind of upperclassman that brings everything. I could think of worse "end of the bench" guys to give guaranteed money to. Agree, low ceiling though.

220ParticipantWow you’re really high on Thon Maker. I’d be surprised to see him go that high.
While Skal likely deserves to slip to the second round, I imagine someone in the mid to late 20s takes him.
Your mock is easily as good or better than any mock I’d make.

Hype MachineDX is going to post some updates on Makers workouts shortly.
They’ve been keeping tabs on his workouts with Ingram, Murray and a few others. Should be interesting.
DX hasn’t exactly been sold on Maker thus far, so hopefully they’ll provide honest, unbiased hype.

220ParticipantIt will be interesting to see how Maker grades out. I’m still surprised the NBA allowed him to enter. He’s surely got the size and athleticism that peaks team’s interest.

Hype MachineHaha you’re trolling me man.
He’s a really solid player. He finished all time leader at East Washington in Blocks and Points and always came through in the clutch. Another high character upperclassman. I think he could be the type of glue-guy that teams need as a third big off the bench.

Hype MachineHes hugely underrated. He cant shoot, but he does everything else well. Rebounds, leads, passes, great defense.
There’s a lot to like! And he’s still improving. I’m convinced he will be a servicable player in the right situations.

ZachAttackParticipantWhy would the Jazz pick Jaylen Brown? He’s an Alec Burks clone. I guess he could back up Hayward, but you’re in love with Ingles, so why is he going to the Jazz in your mock?

WinterSoldierParticipantBurks? I don’t think so. Brown is bigger, stronger and defensively competent. Even their play style is way different, Burks is a better ball handler, more creative around the basket and probably a better shooter right now. Brown is more agressive charging the basket trying to dunk on opponents, His shot needs work but is smoother than Burks at that age. His defense ability/potential is better than any other wing on the team. I think he would be a great fit for the Jazz since he brings something different to the team.

Hype MachineThey’ve only got Hayward for 1 more year. Brown is a steal in that range. He would be a second year player that could allow Jazz to avoid paying Hayward the Max to resign…which hes not worth

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantMaker at 4 seems like incredibly wishful thinking. I doubt any team would take a chance on levert in the lottery considering his injury history. Both Perry Ellis and Anthony barber seem like stretches to go first round. There is no way in hell skal will slide all the way to 39.

Hype MachineGotta give draftnet users something original or its not worth their time.
Just because draftnet or chad ford think a player is in the first round…doesnt mean I do.
Our mock drafts will all end up wrong on draft night, and look stupid in 3 years time anyways.
Might as well take a few risks.

IlladelphParticipantThanks for sharing your mock draft. Since you are asking for feedback, here is mine:
1. No way Thon Maker goes #4. Ridiculous. I think that he is hard to place since no one has seen him play college ball, but I suspect based on his athleticism, combine measurements, and perceived upside that he will be taken in the first round. I doubt he will be a lottery pick but he could go mid first to late first.
2. No way Caris Levert goes #14. No way. I love Levert’s game and he should have come out after his sophomore year when he would have been a lottery pick. The problem is that he stayed 2 years too long at Michigan and sustained too many injuries. He is going to go early to mid second round solely because of how injuries derailed his time at Michigan. He probably will make a roster though and if he stays healthy he could have a great NBA career. It’s just that no team is going to risk a lottery pick on the guy because of his injury history.
3. GP 2 is too high at #17. He is a player I really like and I think he could have a solid NBA career too. Even though he is an elite defender, and elite ball handler/distributor, he is by modern NBA standards a poor shooter for a guard. The PG, and SG positions are absolutely loaded at the NBA level and although I think his defense will get him in the NBA, his shooting makes him a liability. Defenders will sag off of him, and he will not be able to blow by his defender and bully his way into the paint at the next level as easily as he did in college. Prob early second round. I think he can play in the NBA though, and have a nice career as a backup PG. If Delly can do it, GP2 can too.
4. Anthony Barber at 20. Ridiculous. Don’t even know what to say here. He is a mid to late second rounder, and I don’t think he has the overall game to break in to an NBA lineup.
5. Perry Ellis at 25? You are just f***ing with us now. He is late second to undrafted. His upside is nil, and even as a senior he did not impress much. High character guy, energy guy, hard worker. Nice guys don’t make it to the NBA though. Guys who can play do. No team is going o burn a first round pick on the guy when he can be had in the mid to late second.
6. Venky Jois… wow. Um, dunno much about him, so I won’t comment other than to say modern NBA 3s and 4s need to be able to stretch the floor. Jois made 4 three pointers in 4 years. He only took 22 of them. Otherwise his stats look pretty good though. Perhaps he could be the big sleeper of 2016… Or not.
7. Almost forgot to add… Skal in the mid seocnd is ridiculous. If you are serious, then you don’t know the NBA game. He will be late lottery.

pokieParticipantI find your draft very entertaining. It reminds me of the first two rounds of the NBA Drafts from the late 70’s when they had like 10 rounds and no YouTube. Teams would end up drafting Eight foot tall German Milkmen and Olympic High Jumpers in the later rounds. Love it.

Hype MachineLol…lucky I didnt put Carl Lewis and a pregnant woman in there.
Like I stated earlier, we’re all going to look foolish in 3 years anyway so taking a few risks now could make me look genius (or also stupid)

ExumInfernoParticipantIf Thon Maker goes at 4 it will be a memorable draft, ESPN will probably show Bill Simmons unconscious on the floor from shock and he doesn’t even work there now.
Jazz could really use J Brown, someone to attack the basket.
I will assume someone will want Skal, based on his high school recruiting rank and his potential. It would be good for college basketball if Calipari was put in his place and all his players missed out on the money in the NBA he promised them.
The Clippers are WIN NOW, P Ellis is a chance there.
At least nobody will say you copied their mock draft.
You have one American in the top 7. That is an interesting part of this draft, maybe half of the top 10 will have been born outside the USA.

Hype MachineYeah I made a point not to look at anyone elses mock draft when doing mine.
Theres going to be shocks…theres so much stuff that goes on in the background.
One guy I like is Marcus Paige. Ive found out hes been playing with Plantar Fasciitis for a while, and having dealt with it myself I believe thats been holding him back from an All American type season as an upper classman.
I know it will go away on its own eventually and he will get his ability to train harder back. I think he can be a solid backup floor general in the NBA.
