The draft is done, how did your team do and what did you think of the moves (or lack of) they made?

Pacers – I was delighted with the Thaddeus Young trade and think he fits very nicely next to Turner and PG in the front-court. For only giving up the #20 pick and future 2nd rounder I am very happy with the direction of this team. What made my day better was the fact that Prince, Valentine and Hernangomez all went before the Pacers would be pick, would still take Young over them anyway.

    Pacers line-up of:
    C. Turner
    PF. Young
    SF. George
    SG. Miles/Ellis/FA?
    PG. Teague
Bench – Stuckey, Allen, Robinson, Young, Christmas with money to spend I am excited about this coming season.

I am still concerned with Ellis/Teague back-court and would start Miles for his size and ability to play off the ball, you put Miles with the starting line-up he will get far better looks and not have to force so many. Ellis can come off the bench and create his own (He could be a special 6th man), ideally a free agent like Gordon would be ideal and affordable for Indiana to bring back Mahinmi as well.

considering a month ago the lakers had about a 50/50 chance of even having a first round pick at all, to ending up with brandon ingram who not only is a still 18 year old high level prospect, but he meets an exact need for the lakers. The only sf on the entire roster is anthony brown, op basically we have no sf. Plus we needed a guy who could stretch the floor and provide shooting since both randle and clarkson like to drive and russell has good court vision and ingram will bring that.

Then witht the second rounder, we needed to get a center big time. Preferrably one with rim protecting abilities. We end up with zubac who this site, dx and chad ford all had as going first round. All reports are that at 7-1 with a good wing span, he should develop into a solid presence aroudn the middle.

Our current roster has no chance of making playoffs, but with deangelo russell, brandon ingram, julius randle, larry nace, jordan clarkson and ivana zubac, we have solid young pieces to watch develop and grow. If we can get some good pieces in free agnecy, great, but i really hate the idea that becasue its the lakers they are supposed to go all out and trade all the young guys to get established vets and win now. I have no problem being smart with the money and taking it slow. Honestly i think biyombo wold be the msot realistic free agent target i would go after.  Try and bring back brandon bass and then get a solid defensive minded wing like bazemore, dudley or marvin williams.

Jazz just got some spare parts that probably wont make the roster.

I like the trade for George Hill. Their goal is to make the playoffs and Exum is raw and coming off an ACL. Hill is vanilla but sneaky effective on both ends.

Poor PG play, particularly in the 1st half of the season was going to be the difference between making the playoffs and not.

I’m not surprised more people have not seen this angle. BOTH Indiana and Utah strengthened their playoff odds with this trade…

I ended up with an Ivica Zubac. I had him ranked 21st, but for some other team, with a different type of offense (not the run and gun offense I’m expecting). I think he slipped because he didn’t want to spend time in Europe.

Cavs got Felder. Could be one of the biggest bargains of this draft.

Miami did absolutely nothing as they had no picks.

My local team the 76ers made smart choices with Ben Simmons, Timothe Luwau, and Furman Korkmaz. I’m proud of them for not trading Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel to Boston so they could turn into monsters that the 76ers fans could eternally regret dealing. I’m especially proud that they didn’t take a freaking center as Sam Hinkie would have done.

I obviously love the ingram pick for LA but that was a no-brainer. I was hoping Davis would fall one more spot and we could take him in the second round, but zubac could be good value at that position. I hope he comes over right away though because we need help at the center position right now. Most importantly, they didn’t do anything dumb, like trade Russell or ingram for more established players. They seem committed to rebuilding the right way, at least right now. Overall, I’d give them an A for this draft. Now I want to see what they can do in free agency, although I’m not expecting miracles.

to adjust to the fact that my Bulls trade Rose and drafted Valentine. I don’t know much about him, only that he is not fast enough to defend at the NBA level. I like the pick though, he looks like an all-around talent that could fit in this Butler’s era.

I could see them doing some more moves. I would love to read your opinion about Bulls’ draft pick.

My Wolves came away with Kris Dunn. I was really okay with any of the 3 we logically were going to take between Buddy, Murray, and Dunn. Buddy provides instant scoring and 3 point shooting. Jamal provides 3 point shooting and highest ceiling. Dunn provides Defense, athleticism, and a high ceiling. So I’m happy with it. I just don’t want to trade Rubio I think he is a good player and hopefully him and Dunn can be a 1 2 punch for a while. If we do get rid of Rubio than were getting rid of a smart, great passing, great defender, below average shooting, Point guard. AND replacing him with a smart, great passing, really great defender, below average shooting, Point Guard. So that’s why It’s bittersweet for me, I like Dunn, but to me he does a lot of what Rubio does, and we still desperately need knock down 3 point shooters. So I’m content.

Cavs did’nt do anything , didnt need too . Felder is a nice pick up though as a 3rd pg if Delly walks.

This was by and far the weirdest outcome of a draft that I can remember. 8 intl prospects 1st round 16 intl born prospects.

Definitely the story of the draft , I guess based on the cap increase more than anything, followed by a weaker draft. But did not expect it to go like it did. Worst mock prediction I have ever had. 69pts total.

Happy for Whitehead going to Brooklyn gets drafted by Utah but gets to play in his home town after being swapped for Paige. Very underated player imo.

Biggest shocker besides Papagiannis going in the lottery for me had to be Barber not getting drafted along with to alesser extent  Payton , Finney-Smith , Selden, Carter etc. I guess the intl increase pushed them out of the late 2nd.

I expect all 5 to make a roster and have decent nba careers esp Barber.

I’m very happy with what the Thunder did, although it’s a little bittersweet seeing Ibaka leave. A few days ago I posted the topic about what you want your team to do, and I said I just thought we should make some kind of move to get into the first round. It’s not what I had in mind, but it’s even better

I thought the Jazz did really well. They couldn’t get hardly any lottery picks into workouts because they are just too good. The potential lottery picks’ agents kept telling them you would never play with the Jazz. So the Jazz decided to trade their lottery pick for a proven player that can get them to the playoffs. They were so close to making it last year, that Hill will definintely push them over the top. Hayward is going to love playing with him, I think that move really solidified his decision to stay in Utah.

Then the second round, they got a homie in Joel Bolomboy, who can really rebound and plays hard. I think he’s a potential Paul Millsap, definitely a steal. Then they traded Whitehead, a player who wouldn’t have fit with them anyways, for Paige, a senior who will do what it takes to win games. Same goes for Wallace. All 3 of these will see a lot of D-league action their first couple of years. But could become good rotation players later on down the road.

The only question I have is what happens to Trey Burke? When they got Mack, he went down on depth chart to third PG and rarely played. Now they have another PG in Hill, and Exum is coming back next year after his ACL injury. So that’s 5 PG’s. Burke is not going to see anytime at all next year, wouldn’t it make sense to trade him for a Center? That had better happen in the offseason, otherwise you are going to have another Enes Kanter decision on your hands. I don’t think they want that to happen again.

I was quite surprised by the Jazz. They now have 7 PG’s on the roster.

Exum, Burke, Hill, Mack, Paige, Wallace, and Neto. I really like the Bolomboy pick. I had him going 42 to them, but I’m happy they picked him at 52. I love his high energy and his rebounding ability. I think that he could make the team.

The Raptors played the draft safe and didn’t go for the home run pick. They went with two prospects they believed in and avoided risks. It’s funny because Ujiri has everyone believing he would go for the Bruno Caboclo type pick with his press conferences. I’m happy with the fact that Toronto has Poetl and Siakam joining them and I really like both prospects and think they fit well on the team especially with Biyambo likely leaving, but it sort of seems they just settled for what they could get here. Ujiri gets alot of criticisism for his decisions but you can’t argue with the results. His teams win and always have alot of young talent and assets.

The fact that they took Siakam and passed on several others projected ahead of him tells me they know how to ignore the noise and focus on the facts. Siakam had some of the best workouts of any big in the draft, and will likely be the surprise success story that usualy falls to the second round. props to the Raptors. Poeltl was a no brainer as he should be able to play some 4
