IknoBall12ParticipantIf u follow basketball u have no doubt heard of doc rivers son austin. hes a really talented youngster with unlimited range and a bevy of all around skills. He’s the #2 player in his class still and has many major schools chasing him. i watch him and wonder how good can this kid be. he’s about 6’4 or 6’5 so he has pretty good size. wat are ur predictions for him in college and in the nba and wat position will he play?

JNixonParticipantI think he’s in the Stephen Curry mold, but he’s a better leaper.
I expect his statline to go something like this:
16 ppg and 5 apg when he’s a freshman, on 40% on 3’s, and around 45% from the field. He should be a very good college player for 1 or (if he so pleases) 2 years.

tigers04Participanti dont really see the stephan curry comparision besides that hes a good shooter…he takes the ball to the rack just as good as he shoots..i saw someone compare him to oj mayo earlier on the site, and i thought it was spot on

TRC1991Participantyeah i loved the OJ Mayo comparison

JNixonParticipantTo me, O.J. Mayo uses his strength too much for that to be a great comparison. And Mayo has always had less PG skills than Rivers.
He’s similar to Curry because he can play both guard spots nearly equally well, is a strong pick and roll player, has a nice shot, and has a tall frame (for the PG spot) that isn’t really imposing in strength/weight.

sc0rebuckets11Participantcomparison, but he’s not as smooth as OJ.
I think he’s more Eric Gordon than Mayo.
(And I’m just talking about offense)

FDAPOI’m sure this kid practices with the Celtics occasionally. I wonder how he does against Rondo and Ray Allen.

Bryant24ParticipantI see Gilbert Arenas bceause they both are great 3 point shooters who can go lights out on night they both can drive to hoop with the best of them but sometimes rely on their jumpers to much.they both are deceotuve athletes austin can dunk on you if he wants to and before gilbert had knee surgey he was a great leaper just look at footage of him when he was with golden st he still can rise too. they both can hold defense if the apply theirselves. I see gilbet maybe is just me but thats who he reminds me of.

Demarcus OnealParticipantHe is the best pure scorer and the most advanced for his age, what will make him really good is how hard he works on being a good defender how his body fills out, becoming more of a team player and getting rid of his selfish tendencys as well as deciding whether he is going to be a 1 or two guard

Demarcus OnealParticipantthe kid got hops

Bryant24Participantyeah austin is a deceptive athlete he will explode to the rim at times and get me out of my couch

SupParticipantDon’t waste your time with these comparisons. As it stands he is a volume shooter. It is tough to assess someone who is shooting whenever he feels like it, There are dozens of NYC kids who do that and can’t even make it on the college level. One thing we should be clear on, Steph Curry is way more fundamentally sound, and while smaller he is also way tougher. There have been too many post about this kid as of late, I’m just saying let him find out what his game is first. For now he’s just a volume shooter.

stanford hoopsof course curry is move fundamently sound.. hes in the nba and has 4 seasons of experienced basketball over austin. Austin has shown he can be a volume shooter or shoot within the team concept( he showed that in the u18 tourney while being the best player even though there were older mcdonals all americans on the team)

joecheck88Participantim thinking like manu ginobili. he can light it up and play in a team environment, he can make plays, shoot and is a decent athlete.

huff09Participantpeople always say he shoots too much, and hes selfish and a volume shooter blah blah…of course he shoots alot! Hes the number 2 prospect in the country! He passes enough to keep the other teams defense honest but most of the time him shooting is the best option for his high school/aau team. He will pass more at higher levels when surrounded by better players.

sc0rebuckets11Participantbayless? what?
bayless is more midrange. rivers is more outside.
rivers is also not as explosive as bayless was in hs.

stanford hoopsyeah the bayless one isnt accurate. bayless was/is more of a slasher and i didnt see the court vision at the same stage as austin has
