Roland209ParticipantI’m just curious because couldn’t the Brooklyn Nets just do this for maybe a pick in the late 20s from a team who doesn’t have room in their roster or an early 2nd round pick from teams with multiple picks? I’m sure the owner wouldn’t mind overpaying a little considering his spending habits and they don’t have any other assets.

CrossyboyParticipantAn article went up 2 hours ago on SBNation; Nets about this.
Basically, they can pay up to $3.4m to acquire a pick, but it reckons this will only get them a late 2nd.

OhCanada-ParticipantThat’s why we frequently see trades where teams dump salary using committed contracts to obtain draft picks. That usually brings back alot of value because those contracts effect the cap.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantThe Warriors during their 2011/12′ – 23 win season took on the $13 Million contract of Troy Murphy so the Nets could have extra space to build that Super team they were working on…………
And in exchange the Nets delivered what they figured was a meaningless 2012 – 2nd round pick……….
The pick became Draymond Green……… The Sixers have used the same formula to land 1st round picks from the Nuggets & Kings (1st rnd pick plus pick swaps 2 yrs)………….
Many teams have done it…… but with the Cap increasing it may be a thing of the past………..
