thricethefunParticipantAll the talk this season has been on the Heat, Thunder, and Pacers when the Spurs now quietly sit with the best record in the NBA. Every season it seems like this will be the year the Spurs will take a step back due to age and yet that year never seems to come. At this point Duncan looks like he could play until he’s 50!

Lotto StudParticipantSince you created this post I had to take a moment to chuckle. It’s funny to just sit back and think that last season heading into the playoffs as a #2 seed, with emphasis on #2! They were the team everyone in the West wanted to matchup with in the first round if they were fighting for the #7 seed. 1 year later and as of right now the Spurs are the #1 seed if the playoffs were to start today and it’s the same scenario if they fall short of that and obtain the #2 seed.
Believe you me I know Captain Phillips has something in store for these "pirates" that are approaching to takeover his ship. To be continued…

BraedenG33ParticipantThe captain Phillips thing was a reference to Bill Simmons. He gave out "NBA Oscars", comparing teams and people in the NBA to movies and roles in them. The "Captain Phillips" Award went to Gregg Poppovich and the San Antonio Spurs.

Ebown5ParticipantThe Spurs are just winners. I thought that they would start declining 4 or 5 years ago, but they just keep winning. It is a testament to the whole organization.

PhillytheKidIts just beautiful basketball. If you are a fan of basketball, you enjoy the Spurs.
If you are brainwashed by the NBA and Media, you enjoy watching the Thunder Lakers Clippers and Knicks on national TV, lol.
I’ll say this now and I’ll say it again, Brooks is riding Durant. They have incredible talent on that team, but they have no system. If Phil Jackson was coaching the Thunder, I’d give them a shot at the title. With Brooks, the Heat look like geniuses when they aren’t even close to the intelligence of the Spurs.
Tim Duncan is an absolute rock for a winning franchise. Does everything. Stable on the court, and makes everyone better. I wish he came out in ’96, I love AI, but Tim Duncan is the greatest player in the last 15 years of the NBA.

omphalosParticipantAs well as the Spurs are playing I think a healthy Thunder still has their number. Granted, the last time they played them they had James Harden, but I think they’ve made the adjustments and are simply too talented for the Spurs.
Will be interesting to see how they fare in the playoffs, certainly, but as well as they played against the Heat, let’s not forget how they struggled with Golden State until Curry’s ankle gave out on him.
I’d love to see a Golden State vs San Antonio rematch in the first round.

XYRYXParticipantHow often have we read posts like this before. Pop is the best coach in the league for years now.

juves4783Participantspurs amaze me every year. they have great drafts and find run of the mill free agents to fill holes and succeed. pop is one of the greatest coaches in the history. duncan will go down as one of the best post players of all time. and what’s worse is they still own the draft rights for davis bartans, ryan richards, adam hanga, erazem lorbek, livio jean-charles, marcus denmon and deshaun thomas.
lorbek and hanga may never make it over, but the other 4 seem have a good shot.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Heat-Spurs Finals was a classic. I think the NBA "wants" a Heat-Thunder Finals but they would definitely settle for a Heat-Spurs rematch (actually LeBron vs. the Spurs Part 3).
One cool ending this year, would be the Spurs play the Heat in the Finals with DuncanPop (yes, one word) getting revenge and getting their fifth title. Tim Duncan goes out on top and retires, Coach Pop also quits. LeBron sulks for a bit and goes back to Cleveland.
So, next season the Cavs are energized with LeBron and Kyrie, the Bulls get Rose back and pick up Carmelo Anthony. With Tim Duncan out of the way, it leaves the West open for Durant and the Thunder as well as the Clippers.
The Lakers get a good pick as do the Celtics. The Heat drop off, but they are still solid with D Wade and Bosh.
I could see a Spurs title really shaking up the league.
Side note: If LeBron goes back to Cleveland, does Phil Jackson go there to coach? OR, what if Carmelo goes to the Bulls, with LeBron going to the Knicks? LeBron plus Phil could equal good things for the Knicks.
