Houston has an $8.3 Million they should be moving before the trade deadline. Who are some good options for them to try to acquire and add to make a championship run?

I think Thaddeus Young would fit in perfectly in Houston. He would likely be extremely happy to play meaningful basketball this year and would slide in great at the four next to Ariza and Howard. He would also be a great role model for young guys like T. Jones, Papi, and Motie and make Hardens job much easier.

Maybe offer the Clint Capela, the T.E. and some draft picks. Minnesota is loaded with talent that can replace Thad as they rebuild and its very unlikely he doesnt opt out after this year.

I think another good option for Houston could be Brandon Bass. Bass is on an expiring $6.95 mil contract and has seen his minutes reduced this season in favor of Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk. Bass has been an effective player both as a starter and as a bench player for contending teams and would give Houston added depth along with a veteran presence who has extensive playoff experience. For example, last night Tarik Black and Joey Dorsey combined to play 44 minutes, while both are solid players I believe Bass would provide a bigger impact and would significantly improve the Rockets depth. As for Boston, they would clear Bass’ salary while opening more minutes for Tyler Zeller who has shown some flashes off the bench this year. As OhCanada mentioned, Clint Capela could be sent out in a deal or Boston could even settle for a trade involving Houston rookie Nick Johnson who was an excellent college performer winning Pac-12 Player of the Year a season ago (and also happens to be the nephew of former Celtic great Dennis Johnson) along with this years’ Knicks 2nd round pick that Houston owns and looks like it could be a fairly high selection.

Bass and Thad Young are good options. Other options that could come cheap: Jason Maxiell and Ed Davis.

Dragic is prob looking at $10-12 mill and sounds like he might leave via free agency. Houston might have to juggle to make the salaries work to do a sign and trade.  Also, Harden is quite ball dominant so not sure how he and Dragic would work but that would be a pretty good back court if they can get they can get the chemistry right……

But if the Celtics continue to slip in the standings, I’d be okay with letting Bass go to a contender for young assets. A deal centered around Capela or Johnson and picks would be nice.

I always thought West would fit in nicely and be a great leader for Houston.

To me it depends on what Indiana are positioned come late Jan to early Feb as if they would move him, I think it would give Indiana some cap room and a clear direction in the draft.

Houston get a great leader, a guy that can step out to 15-18ft and keep the post clear for Howard and he is under-rated defender as he doesn’t do any spectacular but is very strong and imposing. He is old, but the Rockets have enough talent to be able to rest him through-out the season and keep him fresh for the play-offs.

David West is a nice fit, it gives the Pacers some useful cap space and I’m sure Kevin Pritchard would ask for Clint Capella, Motiejunas as well in exchange.

Phoenix have a bit of frontcourt depth so would they consider moving one of the Morris twins for cap space and a pick allowing Alex Len more playing time.

Ideally we are looking for a stretch 4 from a none contending team who can fit into the trade exception ballpark.

I know Channing Frye only went to Orlando recently but he would become trade eligible in due course and if a nice package was dangled Rod Hennigan’s way he might pite. Also Jeff Green at Boston can play PF on occasion and with them in rebuild Danny Ainge might consider an offer kindly.

Another thing is if a team takes up the trade exception and clears cap space, it might allow a team to then take a salary dump in another trade thus probably acquiring further assets for doing so.

Ryan Anderson would be the best fit but I doubt NOP would consider trading him. Another guy at Boston I had forgotten about is Crash Wallace, he was a very good intangibles player and could operate at PF alongside D12 and provide back up for Ariza too.

You forgot about him for good reason…

The long-term deal will scare them off as they don’t want to risk summer cap room, but Frye would be a PERFECT get for that team.
