ag-pennypackerParticipantAt this point wouldn’t it make sense for Detroit to trade Josh Smith to Houston for Omer Asik? It doesn’t seem like either team is able to trade either player at the moment because no one wants them for the salary. I have seen this mentioned a few times in articles and I don’t think the salary would actualy work unless Houston added another player. Lin would make it work and think even though Lin and Asik have large increases next season that would still allow Detroit the ability to sign Monroe to a large contract.
I know Houston was interested in Josh Smith in the offseason. To me it seems like he would fit well in Houston alongside dwight if they could instill in him the need to forget about taking jumpers.
What do you guys think? Would this benefit Houston and/or benefit Detroit?

The QParticipantAsik doesn’t really fit with Drummond IMO and you still don’t have the SF you need.

ag-pennypackerParticipantI don’t think Detroit would do that because Asik fits. It would give hen an expiring contract next season verse owing smith for three more years after this one. Smith isn’t a SF and Detroit is getting beat up when Smith, Monroe, and Drummond all share the court together. I think this would be addition by subtraction for Detroit and it would give them more financial flexibility going forward.

TyroberParticipantWell Mr Pennypacker I am sure Detroit wouldn’t do this because they don’t want anything messing up Drummond growth. Having Asik split time with Drummond would be terrible for his development.

Sharp ShooterParticipantIt make no sense for Detroit to do these trade Josh Smith or Greg Monroe if they are not getting a SG or SF in return.

GrandmamaParticipantI don’t see how Asik helps Detroit at all. Asik/Drummond is just as bad of a fit as Asik/Howard. They should have saved their money and tried for someone else this off-season instead of making the questionable decision to sign Smith.

sheepish_moParticipantReally? The 2nd Asik to Detroit trade that’s been posted on here in the last week. Detroit needs shooting, not a centre and not a huge contract that doesn’t expire for two years. How about thinking logically before you post drivel op.

bigheavyParticipantIf Detroit makes a move with anyone it should be with Philly or New Orleans… If they are really serious about moving Monroe they should get back players they need. Monroe for Evan Turner or Monroe and Charlie V. for Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans. Maybe even move Smith to Denver, they have a lot of backcourt and wing players that Detroit could use…..
